Voice | Potential Action for Genessia

[The voice over the communicator doesn't sound... unduly dangerous. Quite the opposite, in fact-]

I'm going to need help getting to the Commons.

[Its only unusual due to the sheer... dullness of it. New, and already bored? There's almost no inflection at all, near monotone and deep.]

[And with that, it just... cuts right the hell off.

As for the speaker himself, well he's by the bay cave, wrapped up in a coat. Again, he's only unusual due to the complete and utter dullness about him.

It's not just that he doesn't look interesting, or interested.

Rather, the entire appearance, from the dishwater blond hair to the dulled hazel eyes, seems almost... artificial. As if he's not just refusing to make an expression, but that it seems almost incapable of doing so, lest something crack.

In any case, he'll be standing there for some time, inspecting and memorizing each button of his device]

What, you can't use the map?

[Well, not like she won't make time to check out and maybe oh-so-incidentally help a new weirdo for a few minutes of excitement but by god she won't have anyone know it's not a drag on her.]

[Or get hopelessly lost in a bad neighborhood come sundown. Whichever. And giving that answer isn't going to satisfy her curiosity, so...]

Well, I guess I can show you some mercy on your first day. To the commons only.

[It doesn't take her long to show up, but she gives him a pretty good once over when she sees him, without saying a word. Now that she can see him that expert eye she has for fakes is bothering her.]

[She got lucky, the moment she showed up, the man was actually heading off in the completely opposite direction of the commons.

Hey, he doesn't get cold.

He can be petty.

But he does stop as he spots a glimmer of brilliant blond hair out of the corner of his eye.

Elias turns back and pauses, ever expressionless, the almost too dull stare boring a hole in her]

... You're smaller than you sound.

Fine indeed! What a fine name that is! Do you mean it?

[He says with something close to rapture. He arrives soon, dressed not unlike a clown sans makeup.]

I'm Ted, by the way. Glad you don't mind the inclement circumstances. Shall we go?

[Really the man seemed unusually calm. The newbies usually have a question or two, but perhaps he's the introverted sort.]

Mean being fine? Yes.

[Lying, after all, was beyond him.

There he stood as Ted arrived, dressed more like he was ready for a funeral than the carnival Ted was clearly all set to star in]

I'm glad you made it so fast. I suppose this is somewhat jarring, considering the usual circumstances, yes.

I'm ready to go.

[Still dull, still near monotone, he returned both his hands to his pockets as he locked his gaze squarely on Ted, unblinking.]

[She puts a bit of a point on the comment, though with how flat he comes off she can't exactly say she expects a reaction. Still, you'll never catch a thing if you don't fish.

And fishing is what she's got, since she's just short of being able to read him. What she would call dolls are her forte, the too-perfect, too-purposeful animation of artificial life, which even if released by the hand of its master still carries its imprint... his flatness reminds her of that half-finished, half-freed state, but it's not really the same, doesn't support that utterly familiar, assured assessment she could make for someone like her 'siblings'.]

[Not a single reaction.

Perhaps a flicker behind the otherwise dull eyes, some reddish light like the glow of a dying ember, but-]

It can be. Though there's no need for it right now.

I wasn't going to do anything.

[Making a point of that! Not dangerous!]

Aha, no, not that. Your name! Does it signify all I hope, or is it more of an aspiration?

[The Commons is about twenty minutes away, if they're brisk. Plenty of time for high-octane small talk. He gestures out of The Bay and walks north.]

Heh, and what are your usual circumstances? Where do you come from; Earth?

My teacher named me. Whatever aspiration is in it, it's hers.

[Sorry, Ted]

I am from earth, yes. Usually I'm invited and given a chance to turn it down before I'm made to leave.

Ah, I can help you if you still need it. I mean you can get a map close by but I can understand that still being confusing.

[It's very confusing. He's in no rush to look terribly stupid here, honestly.]

You sound defensive when you start up with that before you've been accused.

It's hard to be too suspicious of a guy who's just waiting around for someone to take his leash. [You never knew who was going to show up, of course, but she'd think most people with harmful intentions wouldn't be too interested in finding themselves a chaperone right away.] If you made an expression and whinged a bit about how inconvenient or absurd this is no one would blink at you.

The implication sounded obvious. When else would you need two faces? Unless you were planning on doing something dishonest.

[Don't start, Elias.]

... Complaining wouldn't get me home any quicker. It's unnecessary.

[Oh look! An expression!

Did you get assistance already? I know people don't always consider that people can't read or have difficulty walking, or might have some condition that they can't get wet, things like that, so you're going to have to expect stupid questions. Obviously you need help or you wouldn't have asked for it.

[ She will come if he doesn't already have a volunteer though! Most of the prep for her party that night is already done except for hot food, but she can't start that until later. ]

I do have several volunteers.

It seems I've upset at least one of them.

[ There's a pause on the line before the voice - somehow less monotone than his: ]

... Is that the only assistance you need?

I had thought so.

[As far as Orihime can tell? He looks like he's in shock. That should be a more common reaction than it is, honestly, who can blame him? Ah, but he's got lots of volunteers to lead him on his way already, so that's good.]

[As for her own feed, judging by the slowly revolving dessert stand to her right, she's in a bakery. But there's also a mural on the wall of two guys screaming at each other,
one of them pointing a sword at the other, with a cake balanced on the blade. So who really knows.]

Looks like you came at a bad time! We just got a warning about a blizzard hitting the city starting...probably tomorrow. So make sure you have some supplies to help you get through it!

Anou...if there's anything you need from our shop to help with that, I don't mind donating since you're brand new. We've got lots of stuff, but it might be a few hours until we get some replacement bread. It's baking right now.

[Well to be fair, he's definitely not thrilled to be here!

Cake Town! It's on Nettle and 8th. The streets in the main city are laid out in alphabetical order, and in descending numbers, so it won't be too hard to find anything as long as you've got the address.

[She hopes he likes cake, not many people are interested in buying those before a big storm hits. They SHOULD, the extra calories will keep them nice and warm!]

It's just down the road from the Bay, actually! So if you're on the side with 13th Street, just keep walking west, you'll find us! I'm Orihime Inoue, by the way.

[That did make things a bit easier, yes.

Lead as he was now to the commons, he at least knew where that was. A moment as he marked the location on his phone-]

[He doesn't seem particularly well-dressed for winter, but it's not so bad that she'd freak out and tell him just to wait there for her to send Goku or Cloud for delivery.]
