℘ first bite [audio]

[There's an odd buzzing noise that almost sounds like static interfering with this feed but eventually it goes quiet. When it does, a soft hum is heard in it's place. The words are too faint to make out but eventually as time goes on, the humming grows louder. It sounds vaguely like English or whatever the common tongue is in this strange utopia. For any linguists out here, the humming sounds Latin in origins but certainly not one of the four popular romance languages.

Thankfully these handy dandy communicators can easily translate this seemingly ominous message. After a brief moment of confusion, everything gets translated.
]

If you wander off
The beaten path
Alone
Then you are a lost

If you wander off
The beaten path
With friends
Then you're adventurers

It's too bad I'm always alone.

[First off: utopia? Pfft. Secondly: Ted has some concerns and condolences.]

So the quality of being an adventurer depends on a...plurality?

[ It looks nice at first, but the little vampire would hardly call it a 'utopia.' Now that language... that is one she recognises. Her first language is French, she can read and speak Latin. Romanian wasn't too hard for her to learn. ]

You need not be.

[ It's accented, but she's fluent. ]

Well, that depends how you feel about vampires who look like young girls.

I am Lady Remilia Scarlet. What is your name?

[ She knows the area very well... and could get there soon. ]

[He understands being busy. Or absentminded. Or leisurely. Either of those doesn't throw him much.]

Certainly makes it more fun, granted. You dislike the loneliness, then? Is the path you're walking a rare one?

Some call me Scarlet Devil.

[ She doesn't mind it. Now Remilia herself... she doesn't have faith in god either. ]

Ah, someone of that name lives here... Time has little meaning to whatever brought us here.

Goodness! Sounds like a harrowing, winnowing path indeed, if it can part you from kith and kin. A high and narrow one, like the steep and thorny path of the righteous, perhaps? Or something else?

Hmm? Vlad III Dracula, also known as Vlad Țepeș.

[If Ted were more conscious he'd wonder how they could go so long talking around a thing rather than about it.]

Ah, well, if misery loves company, you're bound to to be less lonely. That's a very common woe. Indeed, I think the immortals are gaining on those heaven loves better. Or loves less, if you believe in Ahasverus and his wanderings.

Huh. Don't all men seek eternity? The healthy ones at least, I'd hope. Even nature herself groans to be clothed with immortality. Just in its good time, naturally.

Ah! You were named better than you are. What are they?

[Boy can he relate to that.]

Ahah, nothing so cerebral. Just observation. One can hardly walk a mile without tripping over someone destined to live indefinitely. On Earth that'd be impressive. On Genessia it's...haha, equalized. This planet, you see, is rather more concerned with the quality than quantity of life. I dare say we're all on a level playing field now.

[Ted's gotten used to that aloof style of speaking.]

Hah, trying to have our cake and eat it too, eh? Well, it's worth remembering that is was, after all, a Fall. Even now, some of us struggle to regain our footing. Still, you speak as though man is apart from yourself. Is that a good guess?

Oh, wonderful names both! They complement so well; one a saint of brains and the other of brawn. My compliments to your parents, whoever they are.

If only bumping was all they did.

[Ted would say the small causing the large was like a fairy tale: romantic and just, like a gun's trigger.]

Yes, a very good thing. "With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." All in all.

[There's an almost irritatingly happy intonation behind those words.]

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that. Thank goodness for God superseding worldly fatherhood, eh? Still, "the highest does not stand without the lowest". And I suppose, bearing half his nature, he is not totally strange.

Ah, a relative nearly forgotten. My...great-uncle, I think.

[Not being coy about his name, nope. No sir.]

Haha, I quote one very common--but very good!--book and you flatter me for a bibliophile. Thank you.

Goodness, is God leisurely? It's hard to picture Him so. He takes His time; that's all I can say for certain.

[Patience is a hard virtue for him.]

Isn't heredity wonderful? Even if, I suppose, we all issue from Adam.

I hope so! Alas, he was dead before I knew him.

Hah, in totality? Sure. Mind you don't besmirch good Augustine, who wrote reams of words about nothing but comprehending God.

[Clearly the more scholastic saints were confident that at least some of divinity could be understood. Thus: theology.]

Oh I didn't mean to divorce them.

Haha, yes, though it's a silly story. I'll tell it if you really insist.
