Closed IT ISN'T A DATE OK

WHO: Lucy and Natsu
WHAT: Totally not a date. They're just hanging out. Sure.
WHEN: Whenever we feel like it.

Not a date. Not a date. It was ... kind of... a date. Which might be why she was freaking out. Actually she was in a pretty good mood considering ...she'd been making progress with one of her books lately. After considering and discarding several outfits, she finally settled on something a little nicer than what she normally wore. Then it was fussing at Cancer for hair styling until she decided to stick with something simple. She'd already prepared their lunches several days in advance, so now it was just a matter of meeting up with Natsu. Just be cool Lucy! She smoothed out her skirt, trotting off to find her partner. "Natsu..?"

"You called?" Natsu said dropping down from a tree just outside the girl's wing of the dorms. He'd been biding his time up there for about half an hour now but didn't look bothered at all about that.

However he did have a moment's pause seeing her dressed up and styled up in a slightly different way than usual. He found that he liked it. It still felt natural like Lucy should be and that was more than enough to pass with flying colors.

Honestly her partner popping up or dropping down out of nowhere, seemingly, shouldn't startle her as much as it did just then. She almost apologized for keeping him waiting - but it wasn't like he was waiting. He always hangs out in..trees. And it wasn't that they actually set a -time- or anything.

Still, she smiled, holding up the basket of goodies and snacks. "I'd ask if you were ready but- -" haha, well he clearly was always ready to do whatever.

It was his style. And she once again gave the best reactions. So he had no incentive to change his ways. Not that he would unless the incentive was good enough.

"You bet I am. So...did you find some place of your own you wanna try for this d-I mean picnic?"He quickly cut himself off.

Odds were the incentive would probably never be good enough as long as she kept enabling him and giving him those reactions he liked so much. At the question he corrected himself so hastily on, she cleared her throat slightly, nodding once. "Yeah I.. came across it not too long ago, It's.. um. It's a bit of a walk though." But it was nice and quiet which was ideal - the last thing she wanted was for someone to come across them and tease them. She wanted a nice, ro... um. No stress day.

That would be correct. Too bad she wasn't aware of that fact herself. Regardless Natsu quickly set his pace next to Lucy's joining his hands behind his head as they walked casually onwards.

"That's fine with me. We do plenty of walking around anyway. Besides this is for something we can have fun with." Not that fighting wasn't fun. Well it probably wasn't for Lucy but then that made the difference even easier to make.

If she ever figured it out she'd probably just give up on fussing at him. And that was as much saying it was okay! She already lost the battle when it came to sleeping in the same bed, and that was mutual after a point. As natural as breathing. It'd feel weird to not see him there.

She chuckled, "It's true, and it IS a really nice day for it. Thank goodness for that - for a while it was overcast and rainy almost every day here." She'd have been annoyed if rain had ruined their fun. With that thought she shot a glance up at the sky just to make sure it stayed pretty and blue. "Well.. Come on, it's just this way." Ahem. Off they go!

"Yeah we definitely lucked out on that." Natsu agreed on the matter of the weather. Then again if it had been rainy he could have just used his natural heat to keep them dry. As ludicrous as that might have been. Luckily it seemed mother nature decided to be kind this time.

"Lead the way!" he chuckled seeing her excited to show him this place she'd found. He had faith in her taste.

And lead the way she does! Taking the main path that would normally bring them towards the bridge back to town, except instead of crossing it, she steps off of the path towards what might have been a hiking or a deer trail. She glanced in his direction every couple of seconds, not to get his attention, but - she couldn't very well watch him as they walked, right? She'd be hitting every tree out there.

"It kind of reminds me of back in Exsilum, this forest. Remember? When we saw those weird colored deer -" Erm. That were clearly mates and... maybe that was a bad example for someone trying to pretend this wasn't anything more than a not-date. Even though she proposed it as a date. Kinda sorta.

Natsu kept his attention mostly on Lucy too though part of him still paid attention to the surroundings as well. Forests here could be sometimes more dangerous than those in Earthland. But he had faith he could handle anything that came their way. And it also gave him the excuse to really let Lucy's current outfit sink in.

"Yeah I can see why. Though this place is a lot more lively" Birds and other woodland creatures he heard and sniffed out all around them.

"You mean the pink and yellow furred ones? Yeah of course I remember them. Would be funny if we saw two of those here as well." Since clearly yellow and pink was a very natural deer pelt color.

Whatever was out there better behave and not mess with either of them - Heck, Lucy might whop anything that tried to ruin their time out herself. After all, when was the last time they spent time together and not on a mission? ...e very day doesn't count, this was an actual...

She blushed and skirted away from that line of thought, "It's nice though. Inspiring, sitting out and listening to them, or watching the stars. Sometimes I get my best ideas when I'm doing that - though of courese I can't exactly do any writing by starlight." She laughed, the sound choking off for a second. "Y-yeah, but of course we wouldn't see something with that kind of coloration around here.."

Now that would be a great sight. Seeing Lucy kick ass. Hi- nope not gonna continue that train of thought. Pulling that runaway menace back into the station thank you very much.

"Well we could always come out here at night too if you want. Just the stars and a campfire. WOuldn't be the first time." Ooops was he getting ahead of himself a bit. Yes yes he was.

"Then again I think the view would be just as good if we camped out on top of the guild house. Heck it'd be higher so there'd be even more sky to enjoy." Somehow he liked that idea quite a bit but luckily there was another topic.

"Well you never know. There's plenty of weird stuff around here."

It'll happen, just wait and see, and it'd be of course, to protect her friends. Natsu's suggestion of coming back at night. Even though he didn't mean it in a romantic sense, she couldn't help butlet her mind think of it in that manner, glancing away with a soft blush. "Yeah, that.. would be really nice.." She reached up with a hand, pushing a strand of loose hair behind an ear as she glanced at him. Gazing at the stars with just him at her side -- now that was romantic. Wait, snap out of it Luce! "We should definitely do that -- um.." She scratched her cheek, "I mean, if you really want to."

OH GOOD something to take her mind of of potential romantic things. "W-well yeah, that is true, but even so, deer don't normally have that kind of coloring - and I've only ever seen ones with the regular colors." Pause. "But maybe we'll get lucky and see something like that today."

"Why wouldn't I? Sounds like a fun way to close the day." If only because he got to do it with Lucy. Not that he'd drawn that conclusion yet. He just knew it'd be nice and that was more than enough.

"That's right. So what's this place you found like? Gimme a hint come on~!"

"R..right." Well it'd certainly be easy enough to get a campfire started that was for certain, "I'm fine with what..." More than fine, even. She adjusted her grip on the basket, giggling at him wanting a hint. "A hint? You don't want to be surprised? Hmm. Why don't you try guessing it before we get there?" Let's see.. "A hint... hrm. Well, okay - where we're going there will be plenty of trees... and grass.." She's deliberately using useless hints. Just to mess with him.

It certainly would be with the human lighter by her side. He leaned a bit towards the basked, drawn in by a tasty smell that started leaking out from under the flap along the way.

"Hmmm lots of trees and grass huh?" Those weren't clues but admitting that would mean she had won so Natsu wwas determined to work with what he had. "A clearing then?" He mad his first guess after finally pulling away from that delicious scent wafting up from her basket.

Lucy made a face, "Aww, you guessed." Or well, kind of guessed. "Now guess what's IN the clearing. You could say that it'd be refreshing on a hot day, or that it'd be a place where lots of animals might gather." She grinned at his obvious interest in the contents of the basket, The path they were on starting to slope upwards a bit, rather than the flat and winding path from before.

That was a complete shot in the dark but he grins happily at getting it right. But then Lucy took the game to stage two so he had to really think on his next answer.

"What's in it huh. Refreshing on a hot day...animals.....nnnnnnnggg. It's not a...river?!"

Well she didn't really want to make it difficult for him, And it was worth it to see that smile. "That's a pretty good guess. It's right over the hill here -" And of course saying that, she has to debate between the importance of holding onto the basket and holding onto her balance when she slips a little on a bit of loose soil, stumbling with a hand out ready to steady herself.

She wouldn't have to debate anything as Natsu's arms caught and steadied Lucy. He hadn't run off to see his lucky guesses as he might have in the past. But this meant he was holding LUcy awfully close.

"You okay?" He asked simply, tilting his head a litle in her direction.

Well he's... awfully close right now. She stared at him for several seconds- to her it seemed like forever and she couldn't quite tear her gaze away. Speak woman! She swallowed back a little dryness in her throat, forcing a smile, "Y.. yeah I'm fine. ..Nice catch, Natsu..." Hoboy that was weak.

He was feeling that pull again but he managed to resist it a bit better than before. Natsu smiled back and reluctantly pulled away. "Told you' I'd always catch you." he smirked and straightened up however the difference was he was still holding her hand as they entered the clearing.

She cleared her throat, shaking her head. Get it together girl. "Yeah.. I know." She smiled, curling her fingers through his since he was still holding her hand. Following him up the path into the clearing, she cast a glance around and mentally breathed a sigh of relief that someone else hadn't stumbled upon it. The clearing was shady enough to give them respite from the warmth of the day - though one didn't feel it and the other was probably so used to being around such warmth it didn't bother her any either. Lucy set the basket down, unfolding the thin sheet she had brought along with her. "Well, what do you think?"

"Woah! This place is pretty good!" Natsu exclaimed as they finally arrived. It looked nice and homely enough for a picnic alright and the river provided a pretty nice backdrop for all of this.

"I like it. I'd even say it's better than mine." Okay that was a bit of a lie but then he could surprise her when they went for his spot next time.

Lucy knelt on the ground, flashing a grin at him. She highly doubted that it was better than his, but since they had arranged to surprise each other she couldn't very well say for sure. Still Natsu always seemed to find the best of everything. She stretched the sheet out on the ground, setting the basket in the middle. " I don't know about that..! Here, come and sit down. I saw you eyeing the basket earlier, so you must be pretty hungry." Not that she wasn't too. "And close your eyes." She added with a mischievous grin. Apparently even the food is supposed to be a surprise.

.. though she couldn't very well surprise him when he had the enhanced senses and all. He'd easily be able to tell when she was pulling out the smoked chicken, the meat spiced the way he liked it.

Natsu quickly joined her, crossing his legs beneath him as he leaned over towards the basket efore Lucy told him to close his eyes. Really? Did she think he'd be fooled. Still for some reason he still closed his eyes and waited for whatever Lucy had in mind.
