We're Just Waiting For the Hammer to Fall

WHO: Captain Hammer
WHAT: Hammer questions why he's even here. And he doesn't get an answer.
WHEN: July 3, 2014
WHERE: Hammer's Secret Base - Genessia City

It wasn't that Captain Hammer expected to win. But he expected to at least be close. He'd had a good look at those who beat his pageant scores, and quite frankly, he wasn't impressed. He was hard to impress to begin with, especially when it came to other guys. Oh he'd smiled, he'd applauded, and wished people well with a hearty slap on the shoulder (and if that hearty slap made them fall on their face OOPS).

But inside, he was pissed. What the hell kind of judging was that? Was this the kind of respect they gave the man who kept this city safe, who drove off tyrants like Bison who snatched up hostages and brainwashed innocent young women? He'd been seething before when his super vehicles had been treated so carelessly, without even a word of apology. He'd been reduced to nothing more than a glorified pilot.

The whole thing sucked.

Maybe he should have gone with a sweater vest instead of a sports coat...

No, that wouldn't have changed anything. They had no taste in real men, just soft and simpering emo vampire wannabes. What did he expect from a bunch of teenage brats?

He snatched up his communicator and contacted the CPU, unable to bear it anymore. He was mad, and didn't think any lump of money could ever compensate for the repeated attempts at humiliation that these ingrates continued to sling at him.

"What's the deal?" he demanded. "You drag me from a pretty great life as Los Angeles's most incredible superhero and drop me here where, I presume, you wanted me to do the same. Protect the city. Protect the innocent." He jabbed a gloved finger at an invisible point beside him. "I've done that, and I've done a hell of a job. So tell me why I should give a damn when I'm treated like garbage, huh?"

The communicator was silent.

"Nothing to say?"

Query cannot be answered.

He snorted, turning away and scrubbing a hand over his mouth. "You know what? I've had enough. I don't care about this shitty place." Mary wasn't returning his calls. No one asked for an autograph. No one even swooned when he'd stood on the stage shirtless in all his muscular glory. He wanted to go home and be appreciated again.

"I'm tired. End me."

There was a long pause of quiet. At first, Hammer wasn't even sure it heard him.

But it did. Hammer's radio dropped to the ground, and vanished, along with the rest of him. On the job boards, the position of Genessia City Guardian opened.
