It's Mother's Day tomorrow! Back home, that was a day when we honored our mothers. And the other influential women in our lives. I think it's a really nice holiday, so wanted to share it with everyone!

But I know a lot of us don't have our mothers or cool lady mentors here... So I thought, why don't we talk about them? And spread some love for them! Everyone, please tell me about your mothers and lovely women friends! My mother's name is Horie, and she's the beeest! She raised me to be a kind and thoughtful girl, and showed me that girls can be strong leaders! I love Mama soooo much!

[But her mother doesn't love her. What Satou is really fishing for right now are stories of what a mother should be like. And people to talk positively about her own mother too. If she says she loves her mother enough, maybe she'll really stop feeling so bitter and betrayed.]

[Satou can be found around town on Saturday and Sunday, doing a bit of shopping. In particular, she's buying flower bouquets to hand out to a few ladies she admires in Genessia *cough Hikaru cough* Occasionally, she pauses randomly to watch the civilian families walk by.

By the end of the day, she's finds herself back at the Holodeck. Satou looks between her options: She could go and train her magic, becoming stronger and more like the perfect weapon her mother created her to be... or she could "sin" and goof off with the Fantasy RPG.]

... Would that be okay? She doesn't have to know. [Satou sighs.] She would be happy if I had fun on Mother's Day, right..? Though... That Mama was just a lie, huh...?

[Realizing she just said something AWFUL about her mother, Satou smushes her cheeks and yells in public.] Noooo! Don't say that, you braaaat! Brat, brat, braaaat--- [Oh right, she's in public. Hanging her head in shame now. N-No one heard or saw that childish outburst, right?]

Aheh, if you insist. Elizabeth was her name; pretty as she was eccentric. Ha, suppose she'd have to be for marrying my father. Danced very well, and with a light frame. Somehow clumsy outside of that; I sometimes worried whether she'd snap like a twig if that ever got the better of her. Taught me everything I know about the domestic arts, especially cooking.

She'd laugh at much, most we'd have to ask her about, for the causes were sometimes too queer for us mortals to divine. Despised gas and all its causes, so soda and things like it were never in the house. Didn't much care for my father's gun collection, or anything even alluding to violence whatever, if it dared poke its head out of the books she liked. The kind of woman who'd faint at blood, but would certainly die with a smile.

[He's gotten chatty and dreamy, per usual]

Eheh, loved my father very much, of that there's no doubt. I doubt anyone could outdo her in romance.

How about Horie, eh?

Aww, that's so sweet! You two must have been close then, huh? She sounds like such a wonderful woman... I'm so happy for you~!

[In comparison, Satou knows very little about her mother. When the question is thrown her way again, she answers without hesitation. The point of this exercise is to pretend she was close to her mother. She wants to trick herself out of any negative feelings for Horie.]

Mama was very nice! She liked picking out clothes for me and buying me books. And she kept me very safe, so no one could bully me or corrupt me. [The more Satou tries to 'brag,' the more she realizes that Horie controlled every aspect of her childhood. Huh. This isn't helping.]

B-But tell me more about your mother! She sounds so nice. Did she teach you to dance? Did you share any hobbies? W-Was it fun?

Haha, thank you! Yes, very close. I think; of course, as Dickens said, there are somethings bound up so secretly in the soul no one can get at them. There was certainly a deep mystery in her; doubtless another aphrodisiac for my other poor parent.

She was all too happy to hand me books to read, though many were nonsense. Pretty nonsense, mind, which likely informed her own. Hah, yes, she learned me a few steps, then sent me to one of her many acquaintences to learn a few more, in addition to everything else. Few in their circle had children, owing to pathetic, modern tendencies of the time, and she, being the generous sort, was all too happy to pass me around. But yes, it was very fun.

[All said with nostalgic grins. He wonders, amused, how successful Horie was in keeping her the "witch of sins" from corruption. Hmmmm!]

Haha, the protective sort, eh? Would my own so cautious. I fear we lost track of each other more than the civilized really should; like an outside cat, I suppose they figured I'd find my way back sooner or later.

Ehhh. Does that mean that you lived in a safe neighborhood? It must have been fun to wander around a bit, knowing you had a home to return to! Sakura and I used to wander after school too, but technically we weren't allowed to after dark.

[She smiles, hiding a pang of worry. Is it normal for parents to be protective, or normal to be like Ted's mother? Does that mean that protecting her really wasn't out of love, but because Horie was manipulating and controlling her?

Satou shakes her head, briefly frowning.]

You must have been a brave kid, in any case.

[At least she something fun to look forward to. Something unrelated to her mother or home situation... and that's prom dress shopping! Granted, Satou plans to make her own dress from scratch... but she can't resist taking Ana out shopping.

As promised, Satou waits in Nova City for Ana to arrive. She's dressed in her usual black gothic lolita style, with her pink hair ribbons being the only splotch of colour in the outfit. As Ana arrives, Satou turns to wave.]

Ana-chan~! Thanks for coming!

Hi, Satou!

[Anastasia quickened her pace to get in better coversing distance. She was dressed in a simple collared dress to make it easier for her if she is to try on dresses.]

My guardian will be joining us when she can. We can go ahead and try on dresses, but we have to wait for her before making any decisions.

Is that okay?

Certainly; kept our dogs leashed and everything. People preferred walking when they could, so there wasn't much traffic.

[Which is convenient cause the combined obliviousness of his family would probably have weeded him out by natural selection. Sorry Satou, nothing normal about his childhood, as you can see by the end product.]

Ah, Sakura was a friend of yours? Classmate? Well, curfews are very civilized.

Hah, you think so? Not quite brave enough to, ah, pick fights over the network.

[He's still nervous about that. Not that the thought hadn't crossed his mind.]

We walked a lot more when we moved to Japan, too. I felt safer there, I think.

[She shakes her head,] Nn-nn. Sakura is my little sister. Though, I guess she wouldn't know to call me her sister anymore... And I don't think that means you aren't brave. Sometimes, not picking fights takes a bit more courage.

Oh, you moved there? But your sister and yourself both bear Japanese names, don't you? Where did you start?

Huh. Why wouldn't she know that? Seems a hard thing to forget.

My mother was a German immigrant to America, but my father was Japanese. We moved back when I was eight years old, because Papa got a better job.

[Or at least, that was Satou's understanding.]

Mm, well. Maybe it's normally hard to forget. But the price of my magic is other people remembering me. My family forgot about me, hm... Four years ago now?

Ahh, America was my land of birth too. Wasn't till here that I'd ever really moved. It's, hah, been quite the adjustment.

[So much for a good mood!]

How awful! I'm...really sorry to hear that. What compelled you into it, if so?

Ah, then we're both American. We have something in common!

[She's still gonna try to keep the mood light. At least by acting casual about the topic, in hopes that he won't worry.]

It's okay. I paid a price, and that's only fair. Complaining won't solve it. [She shrugs visibly, but internally it's still a sore topic.] Our magic prices reflect what we value most. I was childish and selfish, and told myself "The price of magic must be keeping people safe, so as long as I'm a hero, I can resist it." But the truth is, I'm not the selfless person I want to be. My price is selfish... So I deserve what I got. Selfish girls deserve to be punished, right?

I, er...suppose. Why-why would anyone get involved with magic, if so? Government coercion?

[Genessia and its constant tragic backstories have made him a worrier. No one's allowed to return the favor, natch.]

W-Well... [She bites her tongue briefly. Satou is certainly ashamed of her magic, to some degree. She often wonders why she doesn't stop and try to live her life normally. As much as she likes to think her younger self would make different choices with her new knowledge, Satou also knows that not to be the case.

At least she trusts Ted.]

I wasn't good at anything else. I couldn't do anything to help people... Even Sakura had to baby me sometimes. I was a terrible big sister-- [Well, considering she forced her sister to forget her--] I'm still an awful big sister.

But with my magic, I can help people and protect them. And I guess... Live with myself? [Frowning:] Don't laugh.

No, it's...not especially funny.

Aheh, you know me. I like finding trouble more than the reverse. It's when it spreads, by chance or necessity, that I grow anxious. It's a very difficult thing to keep to one's self, much to my chagrin.

Hm, I guess I can relate. Trouble can be exciting, as long as it's not out of control?

[She's trying to relate, in any case.]

Sharing trouble is just a skill you need to get used to. If you spend too much time alone, you don't get to exercise it. But you can get better at trouble sharing while you're here.

"Mother's Day?" A day to honor mothers? That sounds...interesting.

I wish I knew what it's like to have a mother. To be like normal dragons...
