[Case in point: Hikari made it a whole second after turning the camera on before letting out a small coughing fit. Her cheeks were flushed, though she didn't appear to be sweating too badly, considering the extremely high temperature of the city. She'd certainly been in worse condition, which was precisely why she mad an attempt to smile at the camera so as to not worry anyone too much.]

I must apologize, but...it seems I won't be able to make my work appointments for the next few days.

[Not without risking getting yelled at by at least two people in the apartment, alone.]

I promise to reschedule as soon as my fever goes down, and I'm so sorry if this inconveniences anyone.

Ahh, the common cold. Eradicated four times and one time successfully. For a millennia at least.

[So she's not a proper doctor yet, but the way she hears it, she becomes one right quick when she gets home. And as far as Torchwood's concerned, she's as proper a doctor as you can be without being a Doctor.

She pops up on the screen with a friendly, concerned look]

Hello. I'm Dr. Martha Jones with Torchwood. If you'd like, I could make a house call.

[Her head was still a little too fuzzy for her to make out most of the first part of what the Professor was saying. So she just nodding along, with little regard to whether or not he was actually serious in the lesson...only to pause when she heard the words 'puppet show'.]

...puppet show?

[A Doctor.]

[Not that Hikari was adverse to the idea, but...after suppressing another small bout of coughing, she smiled wearily at the woman on the other end. An unfamiliar face, but a kind one. With a good heart.]

I've heard of Torchwood. A little. [Mostly through network conversation and the casual chatter.] That's kind of you to offer, but...I wouldn't want to inconvenience you.

It's just a summer cold. I've had it before.

[Martha's already appraising the face on the other end of the screen. It's likely just a summer cold as the speaker says, but]

With the heat rising like it's meant to, you're a fair risk for heat exhaustion on top of it.

Really, it's no trouble. Not a bit of it.

...alright. I suppose there's no harm.

[If anything, being able to say she saw a Doctor would ease Takeru and Taichi's minds some.]

Clermont Apartments. That's where we live. Room 18.

I'm a little rusty, admittedly, but I can probably make it somewhat entertaining to the delirious.

Right, then! I shouldn't be long. In the meantime, keep drinking.

[She puts the address into her unit and then smiles at the screen reassuringly.

As soon as she clicks off, Martha leaves a message for the Doctor and Torchwood, and Jack specifically, to let them know she's gone out on a housecall. It's unseemly for a doctor to be so excited about getting on a motorbike (with a helmet, of course) to go visit a sick patient, but she has an excuse. This is who she's studied her whole life to be.]

N-no, thank you. I'm not...

[She tried to smile sheepishly through the slight stutter, but lost her breath in another small bout of coughing. It was enough that she paused to take a small sip of water before continuing.]

...sorry.

As I was saying, I...don't think that will be necessary. Besides, laughing makes me cough more right now.

[A nod of compliance, and they were disconnected not too long after.]

[In the time it would take for Martha to arrive, she did in fact make a point of continuing to sip her water. There were a few other conversations to be had, but beyond that, she didn't exert herself any more. Not even once getting up off the couch.]

Right. It's a bit rubbish anyway.

...Anything else I can do? Ice-cream? Pillow fluffing? Leaving you alone to recuperate?

I was wondering why I didn't see you this morning.

[He had gone to work without really thinking much about it. He'd just assumed she had left earlier.]

Since your sick, I'll bring something back with me when I get home. Until then my pokemon should be around the apartment if you want company along with your own.

[Martha finds the apartment with little difficulty and presents herself at the door with a knock. At the same time, she sends a voice-only ping to say] It's Dr. Martha Jones at the door.

[The first thing Martha would hear coming from behind the door were the little pitter-patter of claws against the floor, mixed with excited chirpings of "Natu! Natu!" A few seconds later, a young girl's giggling and gentle chastising--the words just muted enough to be indiscernible--followed by a click as the door was unlocked and cracked open.]

[She was young, yes, but no younger than the video feed would have implied. Early to mid-teens. Looking a bit flushed and tired, but still wearing a weak smile for the doctor as she opened the door to properly let her in.]

Thank you again for coming.

[As she stepped back, Martha would see a small collection of shoes in the main hall area. Four pairs in all, next to a few pairs of slippers. All matching the same style Hikari currently wore. She seemed to be eyeing back and forth between Martha' shoes and the slippers, as if attempting to discern a proper size, before finally choosing a pair and setting them out for her.]

I hope these will fit. We don't have many guests here, honestly.

[A bit of sheepish giggling followed. Soft enough that she didn't even cough afterwards.]

Unfortunately, I don't have much of a pillow to fluff right now... [And she shifted her camera just enough to give the Professor a full view of Abra and Natu resting against a small mountain of couch cushions. The former awake and heavily side-eyeing his companion, who looked excited to be seen on-screen for a few seconds.] I wouldn't say 'no' to some ice cream, though.

We ran out yesterday.

[Not even an 'if it's not too much trouble'; he found her greatest weakness.]

[Hi, Takeru.]

[She hadn't even done anything wrong, and for some reason, Hikari still felt guilty enough to dip her head down a bit at his initial comment.]

I wasn't purposely keeping it from you. I was feeling a little more tired than usual last night, but I thought it was from the heat, so I just went to sleep early.

Then I woke up too late to see you before you left. If I'd known, I would have made something for you last night.

[Not that she though he expected her to make breakfast all the time. She just...liked doing it.]

I didn't think you were. I assumed you had gone to work at the time.

[He smiled slightly. he didn't expect it from her really.]

You shouldn't feel bad about it though, we know you get ill sometimes. Just means it's my turn to take care of you when I get home.

You got it. Ice cream delivery coming up. [that at least he can do fairly easily]

Got a preference?

...maybe strawberry.

[The ice cream here wasn't quite like it was back home, but at least the flavors were familiar enough.]

You don't have to do that.

[She said, knowing fully well it would make little difference. He was as devoted to looking after her as she would be if their positions were reversed. That's what caring boyfriends did--no, that's what Takeru did. Always.]

I will do it anyway.

[Sure he's never had to take care of her beyond just sitting next to her and checking on her now and again, but he at least had some idea of how to deal with it at this point.]

Once I get home from work. After all, if I just leave I don't get paid and we kind of need the money.

[She nodding, finding nothing he said to be wrong. Especially the latter statement, which did cause...not quite a frown, exactly, but a sheepish smile that was definitely put on to conceal certain other thoughts brewing within.]

We moved here with Mimi's help. Without her... [And she hated suggesting it, knowing how much the pokemon loved the space available to them] ...at one point, I was wondering if we should move again.

[Once again, Martha has reason to be glad for her travels with the Doctor that have taught her to read unspoken cues. She would hate to have been rude and walked in without exchanging her shoes for the slippers.

Mindful of the respectfulness of her Japanese friends in the factory, she nods her head in a small 'bow' of acknowledgment that she hopes is less awkward than her trying to behave 'like my Japanese friend'.]

I'm sure they will be fine. Thank you.

[Sure enough, her own small feet fit easily into the comfortable slippers.]

Let's get you off your feet again, yeah?

[Even though it came from a doctor this time, Hikari found herself having to hold back a giggle at the insistence.]

You sound a bit like Takeru.

[Worrying to the point where she had a hunch she would be couch-bound for the remaining duration of this visit. Which, admittedly, she didn't mind so much, and even complied without protest. The pile of blankets left on the middle cushion went untouched by her, however, as she instead settled for a spot on the far right.]

[A few seconds later, Abra and Natu hopped up beside her, taking their respective spots among the aforementioned blankets, and suddenly her reluctance to go near them made sense.]

I've been resting since I woke up this morning. I ate a little breakfast, but I wasn't that hungry, so I've only had a cup of tea since then.

[Martha eyes the Pokemon but since they seem content to let her do what she's come from, she turns her attention back to Hikari.]

Thank you. I'd rather not assume and waste your time, so first question? Are you human? If not, please tell me what you can about your species. If you are, then go ahead and describe your symptoms for me, and tell me how long you've been feeling ill, please.

[A cup of tea isn't nearly enough, a point she'll stress once she's got some sort of diagnosis.]
