So, I found this out at the Haunted House, but I think his explosions have to do with him sweating somehow. I don't know that they hurt him, as they didn't seem to hurt him there, and he really didn't seem to start to be hurt until he started to just...go berserk. He was also dressed in a weird get up where he looked like he had grenades on his hands.
