[ Cordelia does not make herself known on the network often. Mostly because she doesn't have much to say en masse to the people of Genessia. Today, however, she seems to have a lot on her mind and, well, sometimes you have to do things you don't want to lest you fall into a rut.

She clears her throat, her voice calm save a faint wheeze that seems to come when she breathes. ]

Good afternoon everyone. For those that do not know, my name is Cordelia Peacebringer. A few months ago my friend Hanzo and I set up a shop called Blades and Bows in Nova City. We sell and make weaponry and train those that seek lessons.

Unfortunately, with Hanzo's recent departure I am alone in this venture. To those that may be familiar with less advanced weapons often used here, I would greatly appreciate the assistance of anyone could offer it. Naturally, you would be paid for your work.

I'm sorry to hear that Cordelia; I know the feeling.

I'm a bit of a dilettante when it comes to medieval fare. Should none better step forth, I'd be happy to pitch in part time.

I can help if you're in need of accounting. Running your own business suddenly can be hard if the numbers aren't right.

It is something to be expected, in a land such as this.

[ A pause. She looks uncertain and slightly uncomfortable. ]

I — yes. Truthfully, I need assistance in a great many departments, given the circumstances.

[she's not unused to those looks, but is going to assume they are not necessarily directed at her]

Shall we meet and discuss terms?

[ Unfortunately, it is. Cordelia's experience with undead — and she can only assume this woman is one — has not been the best. And while she is attempting desperately to be open-minded in this strange realm, she can't help but clutch the holy symbol hanging from a chain around her neck, fiddling with it as she speaks. ]

If you are so willing. I am at the shop currently.

[she does note that at least. And is faintly insulted. She's not undead, she's dead dead and perfectly harmless. It's not her fault she's here]

Are you so willing? [she puts a hand on her hip] I'm not going to be spritzed with holy water the moment I enter the door, am I?

[ A reasonable response, given the paladin's instinctive reaction. Cordelia frowns, feeling her face flush red at the call-out. Most undead (or dead dead) she's dealt with before have not spoken their displeasure so openly. Mostly, they just groan. ]

I am. [ She shakes her head, still toying with the pendant out of habit by now. ] I fear that would not do well for business in many regards. You have nothing to fear from me, my lady.

Nor you me. [a faint smile] I'll be over in an hour or so... and it would help if you have whatever accounts you have at hand ready.

Very well.

[ Cordelia knows how to run a keep, make political dealings with kings, and can slay devils in her sleep; but to hell if she knows what she's doing with the accounts that Hanzo probably took care of before he left. Thankfully, there's some semblance of organization when Imelda finally comes over — albeit in progress organization with Cordelia looking absolutely confused by the paperwork in front of her. ]

[she arrives somewhat cautiously even so ... but is oddly somewhat relieved when she enters and finds the woman gazing at the papers in disarray]

I take it you are new at this. [amusement]

[ By the Father that's actually a skeleton. Cordelia looks up, her eyes widening for a fraction of a second before she settles again. Instinct — it'll stop eventually. ]

Was it so obvious? [ She says with a sigh, setting down the papers in her hands and moving to greet the woman that had entered. She's since grown used to wearing more normal clothes, though her armor still sits nearby like she thinks she'll need it at a moments notice. When she approaches, she nods her head in greeting. ]

I thank you for coming to assist me. I do not believe I got your name.

[it's fine. She does understand and would have the same and possibly more violent if she were still living]

It seems we're all thrown into the deep end here. [but that's how she started her business... from the ground up and knowing next to nothing]

I am Imelda Rivera. You may call me Señora Rivera. [she holds up a hand] At the outset, there is another esqueleto here like myself but I have no desire to talk about him.

[since he seems to get everywhere]

[she looks at the pile of paperwork, but makes no move to touch it yet]

Do you have any idea even how much you can afford to spend on employees?

Señora Rivera. [ The word sounds odd on her tongue and she says it poorly. Sorry. She also has no idea what an esqueleto is but, thankfully, she can fathom a guess. An undead. A dead dead. Whatever. ] You may call me Cordelia. [ Since she's come to find her title means nothing here.

Cordelia glances to the paperwork as well, motioning for Imelda to follow as she moves back over. ]

Quite a bit, given we have plenty of openings and enough business to sustain ourselves. [ Even if most of it is collectors and not people that actually care to learn sword play. ] Five or six workers would be ideal, but we could run with less and have enough to spare.

That's a start. At least you know that much. [she has a seat, hands folded in her lap and regards the woman]

First question, shall I get merely get your finances in order or would you prefer I streamline and balance until you can find someone on a more permanent basis?

Secondly, what is it you intend to do with this place? Why take it over? Is it in memory of a friend or something you are fond of as well?

[ Why does she feel like she's talking to Scholar Remiel right now? Cordelia really wants to delegate these questions to someone more suitable. Alas. ]

The latter, preferably. Anything you are willing to show me would help as well, as I certainly would not want to take up any more of your time than necessary.

[ She frowns just so, her gaze softening. ] Hanzo and I opened and ran it together before his departure. It felt a disservice to him and his hard work to simply let it go now that I am alone.

I have a fondness for blades as well. I was a trained swords-woman in my home land. This shop breeds a familiarity in a world I still do not understand.

It's not taking up my time if you are paying for my time.

[she's certainly not going to do this gratis]

So it is part in memory and part as a way to seek connection... [she'd always thought connection was the difficult part. People seemed cold-shouldered and hard-nosed regardless. But she'd since come to realize it wasn't the business at fault but her own personality. In the end she hadn't needed the connection because her familia had where she could not.

She misses them greatly...

But that is neither here nor there]

It's important to remember why you do it. What drives your passion. There will be good days and bad ones and on the worst you may have to reevaluate if it is worth all that you put into it. Life is too short to waste on mere memory.

Fair enough.

[ She definitely feels like she's speaking to Remiel now. Like she's been on the receiving end of a speech similar to the one Imelda gives her now. She smiles faintly. ]

Truthfully, Señora Rivera, my passion lies far beyond this shop. But it is the closest thing I can find that gives me something to strive for — a reason, a distraction, to not mope about and lament what I do not have here.

The bad days will surely not be the worst I suffered. And with any luck, those that think to join me here will help them lessen.

...I'm interested.

[At first, he wasn't going to humor the idea of employment and just seclude himself within Fayren's forests but the idea of handling weaponry and potentially training/sparring others appeal to him. Tsukihito needs to get stronger, that much he knows. This might be a venture worth his time.]

I know swords and other kinds of blades fairly well. Perhaps, I can assist.

[ Cordelia stares. Something about this man feels... off, and she can't quite place it. Thankfully, this comes after the talking skeleton woman, so she's trying to just shrug it off. ]

I was hoping to find more that would be interested in bows, but another discerning eye for blades is always wanted.

Might I ask how you attained such a proficiency?

... What is the payment for the position?

[Let's be real, she's not nearly as magic as she was while in the spire and with no nomadic camps around, winter is going to be a bitch.

Money is kind of necessary here]

That would be dependent on which position you wish to take. If you are a clerk it would be about 2,000 red bills a month, whereas teaching or crafting weaponry would raise it significantly.

[ So like... good?? good enough?? ]

I see.

[Trust her that's more than good enough, she's not exactly hard to please, money-wise.]

I'm quite capable being both a clerk and a tutor. While I'm sure you do not require a demonstration of the former, I wouldn't object to proving the latter.

I am.

[ Mostly because she'd like proof of her abilities before properly assigning her such a position. but she also just wants to hang out with more people that know how to handle a sword and won't be weird about it. ]

If there is a time you wish to meet me, I am willing to arrange it.

[it's a feeling she understands...far too much...]

I hope, then, that it fills your loneliest days with meaning. [and she is sincere about this. It doesn't work for her. Not here. Her familia is not here and with no guarantee they will even arrive-- what then? Why bother? Only she must do something.

She realizes she's sinking and straightens, clearing her throat (though she has none to clear)]

Let me see what it is you have to work with... [she gestures at the pile] If I may?

I'm not great with weapons, but I can help keep the shop clean and take orders, if you need help like that.

[Or really, just company. It almost sounds like that's more what Cordelia needs. Running a shop alone would be rough.]

[No matter what the universe, there's always gonna be some guy around who's gotta make using a sword weird.

Thank goodness for Cordelia, Theresa isn't one of them.]

I have no other pressing matters to attend to; any time is fine.

I am in dire need of those willing to do the more mundane tasks so, yes, I will gladly take you up on that offer.

[ She needs both. ]

Might I ask your name?

[On to other, more selfish concerns.]

Say--and don't be modest--you're pretty handy with a blade yourself, eh?

[He says, scratching his cheek and beginning to work up a sweat.]

I have been trained since I was young by the best warriors in the Keep. So yes, I would say so.

Aheh, must be if it was enough to take Xitmar to task, eh? So such fencing was effective even against otherworldly foes?

[He has the feeling he might be up against something more fantastic than people. Like monsters. Or monstrous people.]

I was not alone in the endeavor, but I would say yes — with the blessing of the Father of Light and my skills with a sword, we were able to best him.

Why so curious now?

Oh, I've always been curious. And my interest in the ways of that knightly art is evergreen. I was just, ah, wondering, if managing the store isn't too trying, I might be able to help from the other end...

[And the award for most roundabout request in the world goes to! She has very honest, severe eyes, and Ted feels them boring into him. Yet he's still hopeful the issue of sex will miraculously be passed over, or solve itself.]

Save for lack of workers, managing the store is not all that difficult. If you are asking for swordplay lessons then I have more than enough time for it.

[He wonders whether that would be the only time the word "play" left her lips.]

Really? That'd be lovely. I've a year or two of that under my belt already; if we might skip to more advanced complexities, that'd be lovelier still.

[ It's not. but Ted hasn't known her long enough to unlock her social link and get the fun part of her out. ]

I suppose it would be best for you to join me at the shop when you have the chance, and we can go over exactly what you know and wish to learn further.

[That was easier than he (for some reason) expected. Now he just has to hide his nerves and he's home free.]

Heh, sounds sensible. All right, you still keep the hours you always have? In that case, tomorrow afternoon ought to serve. Until then, go under the Mercy.

Thank you. [ She offers a smile, small as it is it doesn't seem forced or simply set to appease.

With that though, Cordelia does her best to set the papers into a relatively neat pile; moving aside so Imelda can get to them properly. ]

Please. If there is anything I can assist with — or if you would simply prefer me out of your hair, do tell me.

I will see you tomorrow, then. Do you have a weapon and suitable clothing for this venture, or should I think to find something before your arrival?

Of course. To both!

[So long as "suitable clothing" refers to the clown clothes he always wear so long as people continue to let him get away with it.]

Or...hah, did you want me in something more chivalrous? I've armor. Of a kind.

A cup of tea if you have one. [she sets herself down, smoothing out the wrinkles from her shirt and setting a pair of reading glasses on the end of her nose bone] Otherwise don't bother me.
