Four seconds? If it works by rewriting the subject's DNA, that's how long it takes to change the genetic information, right? How long do the actual physical changes take? [That would be extraordinarily fast, but not inconceivable. A change only to someone's genetic code couldn't possibly produce any noticeable physical alterations on that timescale.]

These organisms read the subject's mind, or something similar? They must have some means of determining the greatest talent.
