GIR!

[Oh what the fresh hell is this.

Zim's certainly a sight here, a panicky, vaguely smokey sight, judging from the shadows and background, he's perched on top of the pod he woke up in.]

GIR, I can't reach you through the communicator link, you better be on this frequency, GIR, LISTEN TO ME.

[That's right. He's assumed that this is a private conversation. Here we go-]

I'm surrounded by water and if you do not get here right now, GIR, RIGHT NOW, I'm going to burn to death, are you listening? I need you at my coordinates right now, GIR!

I'm at-

[A pause, because he... doesn't... know where the hell he is, or what his coordinates are, or probably what day it is. There's some aggravated grunting]

Look just... just figure it out! GET OVER HERE RIGHT NOW, AND DON'T LET ANYONE SEE YOU! If I fall in the water and die, you can't have any more waffles ever again! ... EVER.

[Jumping back in shock from the sheer force of the response, Hikari took several (accelerated) heartbeats to calm herself down. Slow, deep breaths. Clearly, her usual methods were not going to work here.]

Unless he's the one who's going to burn you, maybe it would be better if we figure out how to stop that from happening.

[The camera is aimed towards the water, lapping against the sides of the pod he woke up in.... MENACINGLY.

[Okay, this was at least slightly closer to an answer; Hikari tilted her screen to get a better look at what exactly the creature on the other end was showing her.]

[She saw nothing immediately out of the ordinary.]

...somebody put something in the water?

[She opened her mouth. Then closed it. Realization dawned on her, and though there was no way she could have known, a wave of guilt washed over her.]

I'm sorry. I should have realized.

Is there no way for you to get down without touching the water? I can try to find a raft of some kind, maybe, if you need.

IF THERE WAS A WAY FOR ME TO GET DOWN, I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF IT BY NOW!

I've done every possible calculation there is trying to escape from this water filled PIT OF MISERY and THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY I could EVER POSSIBLY ESCAPE and I'm GOING TO DIE IN HERE IF MY STUPID ROBOT DOESN'T-

[By that point, Hikari was willing to ignore the volume. And the snippy commentary. She understood that they were stressed and apparently in a kind of danger they had no immediate way of avoiding.]

[To be honest, she had dealt with worse attitudes in less explicable situations.]

[That long wormy tongue juts out from between his teeth in disgust]

Earth sandwiches will also kill Zim.

[With a click and a hiss, the domed, backpack-like device upon his back pops right open, several long, thin, spidery metal appendages slipping out to stabilize him on the pod as he goes rooting around in the pak for snax.]

Trying not to die is hard. I hate it. I shouldn't have to work this hard to not die.

I'm tempted to agree with you, honestly.

Hopefully, once we get you out of there, not dying will get a lot easier for you. Think you can hold on for another twenty minutes?

[If she rushed, she figured it would take about that long to get there.]

[He pulls out what distinctly looks to be a... stick of taffy.

Yeah that looks like a goddamn taffy stick. Sticking half of it in his mouth, you'd imagine that might... you know. Make him not talk so much for a bit.

[As she spoke, the video seemed to be a bit shaky. Rapid movement combined with feeble attempts at keeping the camera steady. Although, at one point, she did have to put it down in order to pick up something. A box of some kind. There were a few chirping-like noises in the background, followed by a muted version of Hikari's voice saying something in turn, before she appeared back on-screen.]

I found the raft. I'm on my way now.

HOW DO YOU KNOW?!

[Well he's still there, perched on the pod, cramming another handful of taffy into his mouth like an animal.]

GOOD! And if you see my stupid robot on the way here, tell him to hurry up!

Because you know the water can hurt you, and you know help is on the way, and you're much too smart to slip and fall accidentally.

[There may have been a touch of appealing to pride there. If one paid close enough attention to notice.]

His name is Gir, right? What does he look like?

He's about a foot and a half tall, silver, blue optics, one antenna, kind of looks like he might have been made out of garbage.

It's a very clever disguise, when he's not a dog.

I was all the way by my apartment when I saw your message. The caves aren't exactly next door. Plus...it took me a while to remember how to get back.

[She hadn't exactly been in the best of minds upon her own arrival.]

[She was going to take that as a small victory. And a mental note that calm, reasonable logic seemed to work on this guy.]

[She maintained the connection all the while. Just in case. If Zim was more scared than he let on, seeing her progress would hopefully offer a small comfort. If he was just pissed off an impatient, it would be irrefutable evidence that she was still on her way.]

When I get close, you'll have to call out until I can hear you. It'll save us both the time of an unnecessary search.

[Give him time, he'll come up with a way to argue with absolutely reasonable logic.

There's a lot of clicking around, the sound of metal on metal. Apparently he's just pacing around with those weirdo spider legs on the pod now.

Can't you just follow the primitive radio waves from these phones?

I can hear them, these communication devices are GARBAGE!

[Well, at least she'll definitely be able to hear him. There's a good chance they can hear him from three blocks down, with all this caterwauling.]

[Then she'll simply enjoy the prevailing of reason while it lasts.]

Unfortunately, my ears aren't as good as yours. I can't hear radio waves.

[Just the typical soundwaves audible to a human ear. And maybe sometimes other people's hearts, but that's a whole 'nother matter completely unrelated to this situation.]

I think I'm close, though. I see something that looks like a pod in the distance.
