genessia | 005: Two Overlords [Audio, Backdated to Aug 1st, locked from Lucifer]

[Unlike his previous posts, Midboss could not bring himself to open up a video feed as he normally would have, especially not to the public network. Despite the fact that his wounds were healing well, his crushing defeat had left his ego in tatters. He was also more than a little self-conscious about his missing wings, although considering how he had often kept them concealed, he was not sure how many people would even notice the difference.

The notice he'd received about the candidates for guardianship had intrigued him. Whilst he had toyed with the idea of applying himself, putting the pieces back together was more important right now. Unfortunately, he had missed the posts the respective candidates had made in all the commotion, and thus...Midboss braved himself to make a public post.]

I understand that a new guardian is to be elected in Fayren, and that we are to chose between the two candidates by vote. Although I am sure you would all far sooner see one as elegant as myself take the position, I... am perhaps not in the best state to contend at this time.

Unfortunately, I have yet to meet either of the candidates and it would simply not be proper to make an uninformed choice. Perhaps the two would be so kind as to introduce themselves, or someone would be helpful enough to tell me what they know of them?

Also, I, ah... [he swallowed the lump in his throat, taking a moment to continue] feel must make an apology, regarding the event two weeks back. I fear my involvement exacerbated an already fragile situation, and... well. Perhaps I underestimated-- that man's power.

[Midboss faltered. He couldn't bring himself to say that name.]

Thank you, to all of you who came to my aid after that rather sorry display. I am recovering well, thankfully. If I... caused any undue distress, I must apologise as well.

[He paused, not wanting to end the feed on that note - it was still distressing to talk about, and he would far sooner end with something positive.]

I hear there is to be a party soon? I do hope I can dazzle you all with my ~beautiful~ reappearance then.

[As soon as the feed ends, Laharl will be kicking the chair/bed Mid-Boss was using.]

Oy, shut up already. You're not supposed to be doing too much yet.

[A few minutes after the broadcast, Mewtwo's face will be showing up on screen, eyebrow arched slightly.]

If you're talking about trying to take on that mad man, you were not the only one who attempted, I assure you.

[She saw each body descend from that building, one after the other. Unfortunately, she couldn't assist as she was far too busy with the evacuation efforts to Nova City.]

He was far too strong. And you're an idiot for trying alone, and also for still worrying about attending a party instead of recovering.

[Then she shifts to a more commanding tone.]

You wished to meet with one of the candidates, you're talking to her right now.

[Even considering how distinctive her voice was, Midboss might not remember the girl who had seen fit to insult him on her first day in the city. Today, she seems in a better mood.]

Hmph. Maybe you're not as foolish and useless as I thought.

[Its as close as she gets to nice to anyone not named Satsuki. Feel privileged!]

[Terra's voice starts to sound more confident when it comes to using the phone devices. Her tone is still soft and sweet but she is learning how to talk to people.]

There will be a party?

[Midboss was still curled up in bed at the Nova City clinic, torso and arm wrapped in bandages and blankets loosely around his shoulders. He was resting on his uninjured side - that proved to be the least painful.]

Ow!

[That was, admittedly, more out of surprise at the sudden jolt to the bed than pain.

Still, he reluctantly put the communicator down on the pillow. Someone was feeling a little bit sorry for himself, and it showed when the usual energy and enthusiasm failed to reach his voice. If anything, it sounded half-hearted, tired.]

...I could not deprive the rest of Genessia of my beautiful self for too long, could I? Besides, I wanted to keep myself informed.

Aha~ You must be one of the two candidates, correct? I was hoping you would not mind
answering a couple of questions for me.

Oh, I do not believe we have been introduced. My name is Vyers.

...I believe I was the first to make the attempt, from what he said to me.

[Midboss' tone wavered. If there were others who made an attack, at least that would mean he was not the one entirely responsible for the hospital's destruction...yet it also meant others had possibly suffered the same way he had. He was not sure which option was the kinder of the two.]

Still, I had reason to believe I could defeat him with my power alone... I underestimated what he was capable of.

[He sighed, energy deflating a bit from his tone. As if he needed to remind himself of his crushing defeat anymore than he already had.]

...Ah, yes... I was wondering if, perhaps, you would not mind answering a few questions for moi? Although perhaps I should introduce myself first. My name is Vyers.

[Ironically, he felt far more foolish and useless now than he had in a while, and hence, his tone came across as reserved and tired.]

...What makes you say that, mademoiselle?

[...That voice...he was sure that he recognised it, but he could not place it. Perhaps it was because he had not caught her name between all the insults on their first meeting.]

I...do not believe I caught your name?

[He was glad to hear that confidence in her voice. Terra certainly seemed to be opening up more as time went on.

Ironic that he was the one feeling less confident in himself this time.]

Indeed... I believe there was an announcement of a party a couple of days ago, although I am not too certain on the details.

Nobody was missing you.

[Real caring right there, yup.]

Its simply, really. When I first showed up you acted like you were some obnoxious big shot and it really pissed me right the hell off when I was already in a bad mood.

[Worse mood then normal that is. Nonon is rarely in a mood other then bad.]

But you went all out trying to stop that guy from hurting more people. I've decided there's more to you then just being annoying. I'm not saying I like you, but I don't hate you anymore.

[She considers some of the people she works alongside annoying, but she can still respect them, in her own way. It wasn't that different really.]

[There's a beat. Might as well get it off his chest.]

Primarily because the previous Guardian is apparently absent, and because I have made Fayren my home.

[That seemed a bit out of place.

...I know what Krichevskoy really looked like... and not those stupid portraits hanging around the castle...

That seems reasonable. So your intentions are primarily to protect your home, then? A noble goal, for certain.

That is correct. Fayren is the primary source of my food supply, making living in the other cities less viable. Being one of the few that are so tightly bound to the city, taking up a leadership role only seemed logical.

[Vyers just stared at him a moment. There were no other ways to read what Laharl was saying, but...had his son known the truth, this entire time?

Finally, his expression grew more serious, dropping the theatrics for the moment. There was little point denying the truth, but what could he say?]

Truth be told, I, well... I had imagined you only saw me as a rival. A... 'stepping stone on your path to the throne'... That was my intention, of course, but...

[That certainly explained Laharl's reaction to his injuries. But...it was not a revelation he expected to be confronted with now, especially not when he was left in this sorry state.]
