[Video] A random question!

So! I had this random question I kinda have been thinking about asking some of us visitors from other realm type people for a little bit, and thought I'd ask. Sorry if this has already come up like a million times, but...

... Well, what are some of the legends on your world like? Like, mythology and heroes and stuff? I wish I could read about some of these things, but I probably can't, so I gotta ask you guys instead!

Also, uh, does anyone know how to, er, un-fry an electrical socket?

[Oh, a chance to talk about her own world. Liora loves that stuff!]

Well, there's an incredible history in my own world. We have eleven elemental deities who helped to shape the world. At first they warred with each other, as they each had different visions for the world. But they realized that their war was destroying the world, and then the Shade attacked from the outer space, so the deities joined forces to fight it. After that, they formed a truce, a took a region of the world to shape to their liking. They gave birth to dragonkind to help with the task.

As for mythology...there's a story about a Fae of Light who is supposed to lead dragonkind to an incredible age of prosperity. The Lightweaver chose me to search for this Fae of Light, but I haven't found her yet...

You certainly could read! Earth's colorful stories are popular enough in the world to be thoroughly documented. But I don't mind telling anyway. How about one of Merlin, perhaps the only good wizard to ever live?

There really aren't a whole lot of legends in my world. Really if anything, there's only a single legend that seems to be unique to my world, the legend of Sparda.

[Video!] Satori Time!

[personal profile] satori_komeiji 2018-09-01 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Satori was such a 'myth' in the flesh, so why not reply to the girl? Perhaps that'd set some fear or reverence in her heart.

"Myths and legends, you say? My kind tends to collect them as a pastime and tradition. You see, I suppose that Gensokyo has a bit of everything, alongside the overly average humanity that already makes its home there. I'm a Youkai, simply put, a being of the supernatural. And quite old enough to have heard many stories, some of which that would take a prohibitively long time to tell. So let me start with a simple one about where I come from, more or less..."

Her tone of voice slows a little and lowers a half-octave, as if she's practiced for quite some time. For a moment A firm and instructive tone, as if offering words to this human was some sort of lesson, though with a sense of superiority and age just under the surface.

"As far that story reckons, the world of humans had begun to outpace in science and reason but at the cost of faith and fear. Us creatures of myth and legend that survived were well-hidden from any human meddling. However, this only meant that Youkai-kind had no home or way to sustain ourselves: we live on human fear and emotions. Some of us eat their flesh or spiritual energy to survive. But the fact remains that a species or a group without 'food' will die just as easily when denied it."

Satori looks directly into the camera once more, an unwavering and deep gaze, as if she were trying to make eye contact on the other side of the screen. It wasn't as if her powers would work on someone through a video-phone, but the dramatic effect of the gesture would be enough of a treat.

"A world in which humans know everything and fear nothing, not even the darkness outside their door is a world where we cannot live. So, centuries ago, an ancient maiden of the Hakurei Shrine made a pact alongside a Dragon God and a Youkai that controls the borders of reality. Using powerful magic, they placed a barrier around Gensokyo maintained by the Hakurei Shrine's enigmatic deity and the Shrine Maiden's descendants and let the world we called Gensokyo drift away from the rest of the planet. Not a soul on the outside really understands or knows that world exists, save for by...certain accidents where a human is lost."

Satori then near-immediately drops her rather serious tone and lets out a long and displeased sigh...

"The Dragon, according to reports, has been missing for the last couple centuries and the Border-Woman's motives are incomprehensible. And for better or worse, the current Hakurei Maiden is the closest to a 'hero' we have - and even then, all she really ever accomplishes is breaking and entering and assault against whoever she arbitrarily deems responsible for the most recent trouble that befalls the land. I know this because she saw fit to break into my home with her friends in tow, upset my pets and immediately call me a source of disturbance."

Satori looks away from the camera. Clearly, it's as sticking point that this Hakurei girl bothered her.

"...I'm not sure if that, at all, answers your question. But if you'd like me to tell you any other tales, I suppose I've nothing better to do between hunting down my sister and feeding the pets again. But I'd much rather listen to yours."

Yes...a great Fae of Light. I don't know anything about her, or where to find her. I'm running out of places to look...

[And having Erebus on her tail certainly hasn't helped matters either...]

Well...I just said I don't know anything about her. Just that she's a Fae dragon from the Light Flight, and she's supposed to be very powerful. Maybe if I knew what colors she has, it'd be easier to find her...but she could be anywhere.

Well, there's a story my mom used to tell me. I think everybody in Radiant Garden heard a version of it as a kid. And I always thought that's all it was; a story.

But you know what? Turns out it really happened. Or something like it did. I don't know the details of the real thing, but I could tell you the story I was told.

[Hana was ready for this..!]

It has been confirmed that this is indeed a Legend, so I will share~

-Ah-also..fry an electrical socket, is that a food? ..Mmm nevermind, it's okay. It sounds delicious regardless. Frying things makes lovely food~

[Humans were so lovely and curious, but she clasped her hands together]

But! This is the story of my home. My Home was inhabited by all sorts of Life and plenty of creatures, and they were all watched and preyed upon a large Scarlet Serpent. This Serpent was like nothing other, as it was so long that its body was intertwined with the world. Not only that but it was said that it had stripes that could lure anything to it's beauty, a tongue that can both entrance and poison, and the claws of a mighty cat. The Serpent ruled with Fear, Hatred, Pain, and Struggle, and those who did not offer themselves per the Serpent's order, deadly storms would hit and their family would be wiped out.

In return for such sacrifices and willing ones, the Serpent promised Power, Knowledge, and Bliss to them and the families and clans. Some of the creatures were hesitant, where others were not. The creatures who were brave and sacrificed the most were the wolves, the humans, the birds, the whales, the bears, the hooves, and the cats. Because of their sacrifices within their clans and families, they were able to grow more powerful than the rest, and soon would lead my world as leaders.

Yeah, I've found a lot of people are from parallel versions of a single world so a lot of stuff applies to those versions.

[He shrugs a bit, grabbing a bottle from off screen and popping the cork on it, taking a short sip.]

Two thousand years ago, the Demon Emperor Mundus set his sights on conquering the human world. To that extent, he used his influence to build a cult of humans. The cult built a tower - the Temen-Ni-Gru - to serve as a bridge between the human and demon worlds. However, when Mundus' armies began marching through the portal, Mundus' lead general, the legendary Dark Knight Sparda, betrayed Mundus.

Sparda singlehandedly fought back Mundus' armies and aided a human priestess in sealing the tower, and closing the portal, sacrificing a large portion of his power to do so. Afterward, Sparda wandered the world until he met a woman he fell in love with, settled down and had a pair of twin sons.

Heroes, huh?

[He puts his hand to his chin and 'hmms']

There are legendary pirates that many would refer to as their heroes, but as for mythological, I'm afraid that those aren't really heard of where I'm from.

[She asked for it. He cleared his throat to begin the wonderful tale.]

All right. Once upon a time there lived Vortiger, a cunning and wicked king on the run from his enemies. They'd routed he and his host to the wilderness. Without a place to rest his men, it seemed to him good to rear a castle upon the nearest mount. He put his men to work building that very thing, only to come upon a significant hitch: nothing they built would hold! They dug a dyke, piled stone to make a wall, only to have it fall over the very same night.

Over and over they toiled, only for their efforts to come to naught. Vortiger consulted his wise men what he should do. They took to their craft, casting lots and working incantations, until one--Joram--reported that if they could find a boy who never had a father, the blood from his breast could be mingled with the lime to produce a wall strong enough to last till the world's end.

Vortiger, desperate for an answer, took the advice, and cast his knights far and wide so that he might find such a child. It took some time, and one such troupe rested in a burgh where they found something like providence. The boys were playing a game smiting each other, whereupon the knights overheard a row. One boy had received a blow from another, and wasn't happy.

"Merlin, you bastard! How shameful it is that you've struck me so. I am a king's son, whereas you are born from a fatherless whore! You shall die this day for daring to lay hand upon your better!"

That was all they needed to hear. The knights absconded with poor Merlin, bringing him to the burgh-lord for his possession, and threatening said lord with destruction if they would not let them have the boy.

The Lord, who was not altogether without decency, sought the mother's permission, or at the very least her explanation. How had Merlin come to be without a father? Merlin's mother was a nun then, but told, somberly, that she used to be a very fair lady who dwelt in a mansion with her mistresses. At fifteen, in soft sleep, she said she were visited by the fairest thing she'd ever seen: some visage like a knight arrayed all in gold. It gilded to her, glistening of gold and approaching her with tender embrace. Before she knew it, she was fat with child and burdened with shame over his mysterious conception. She could tell Vortiger's knights nor the burgh-lord no more.

Satisfied, they whisked him away from home to finish their work. Merlin, thus far compliant, wished to know why they desired a bastard like him. They said. He was understandably upset.

"Wretches! God himself will not allow your stone to settle! Your sages exceed in deceit! Joram told you this, and he will answer for his wicked advice. He's my enemy; bring him before me, and if I tell you why your precious wall really won't hold, and prove it, have his head!"

Vortiger agreed, and set Joram before his bastard-enemy. Merlin said, "Underneath us there is water. Away with this stone, and you shall see." They did as he asked, found what he said, and were amazed. He asked them whether they knew what lay in the water. No one knew, but they came to expect Merlin, full of mystical wisdom, did.

"I shall tell you. Two dragons quarrel there; more bellicose worms you'll not find. One bone-white, other red as blood. Each night they wrestle and shake the earth, putting all your labors in vain."

Seeking to test such a strange story, Vortiger's men emptied the pit and carried the water off. At night, it all went as Merlin said, as they bore witness to a marvelous, flame-filled clash of serpents. They took their wrestling to the air, where the red dragon gravely wounded the white. Each went to their hole, and no man saw either again.

That certainly solved Vortiger's wall problem! The men were happy they could properly start on the castle, and happily put Joram to death for his time-wasting, false counsel. That is how Merlin, wizard of old, was first discovered.

[Silly, eating always helps, it's how you explore things that are dangerous and not and--]

Hm? Oh no, definitely not...no, from the perished calls of many creatures because of The Serpent, out of nowhere The Shadow came. They seemed to be apart of the Hoofed Ones when meeting them, but then they looked like one of the Wolves from their Family, and so on. It turns out The Shadow had arisen to stand up for those Sacrificed and to face The Serpent. They befriended and earned the trust of the Families.

When it came time, The Shadow found The Serpent and talked. The Shadow had wanted peace in this realm, and wanted life to flourish as much as it could possible. Ultimately, they wanted a home that was ruled with love and understanding rather than with fear and struggle. The snake had laughed at The Shadow at first and stated that it would be impossible since all creatures are born of hate and sorrow, and even if The Shadow ruled, it wouldn't be long.

So The Shadow made a deal with them. Seeing as the snake couldn't move from the realm, they gave them the ability to be free. To travel and to see for themselves if their theory was right. In the meanwhile, The Shadow would rule instead and prove that without pain and hate, the realm would be a better place for all. Taking the deal, The Shadow set The Serpent free and all would see a new, beautiful world that The Shadow would bring about!

[Hana purred] Then..in order to keep the peace, The Shadow split itself up and created us, Draconics, to keep record of all the secrets, customs, and cultures, that are made thanks to the power of love. While we, Draconics, are made of Darkness, the Light from those we love and cherish as Families are what shape us to be the watchful Guardians we are~
