[The Doctor isn't exactly thrilled with that way of describing people, but he stops himself short of being really snarky about it. It's not as though vampires in Genessia are the first beings to have trouble understanding what there is to see in humans.]

Funny--sounds to me like you might be gaining some perspective.

Not the easiest thing, and not always comfortable, but I'd say it's well worth it... and if I've learned anything about "mortals" in the last thousand years, it's that mortality's nothing to sneer at--not many things more powerful in the Universe than a human at peace with their mortality--and immortality doesn't make your life any more meaningful, just longer.

To be fair, though, she used the term because humans aren't the only mortal race here. She's not certain Time Lords are fully mortal, if at all. ]

That makes immortality sound a little, ah, bleak. I do find that humans have a way of surprising me. Reimu and Marisa back home, and Sakuya especially for instance. And there's the humans I met here. While I doubt I'll ever forgive humanity fully for what happened to Mother and Flandre... I find some, ahem, tolerable.

In bitter hearts. For a monster, resenting them for their own foibles instead of the ugliness of the tableau already means she's gotten close.

If you're worried about "foolish mortals" then you clearly shouldn't be a Deputy Guardian in Everglade to begin with~ [Yes, yes she is purposefully trying to turn the knife.]

Huh...It's not exactly a bad thing. Maybe it means that something about those you see has changed how you wanna view them.

If what I have learned in my short time here it's that a Deputy Guardian is meant to protect all. So, of course, one wouldn't inspire that much fear if you have a duty to protect everyone.

Satori arrives on the scene to try and assuage Remi's worries. She'd hardly be a good partner to the vampire if she sat by and did nothing. While her expression is relatively calm, her eyes speak volumes about how seeing Remilia like this makes her feel.

So she decides to be honest...

"...I asked the same questions during my time as Guardian, years ago. Fear sustains me as much as flesh does, of course. Their lives are fleeting and their passions contradict one another. And their thoughts, of course, range from brilliant to digustingly base to utterly inane. Mortals are more than foolish, they are...incapable of managing themselves even at the best of times."

Satori leans closer to the camera a little, offering her a very faint smile to see how she'd react.

"We make them fear because they are weak and fear so much, already. Because they fear our kind, they band together and become stronger, but grow paranoid and turn on eachother. However, there are other things that would extinguish them without a thought for them, being that even monsters like us would find monstrous. And as much as mortal races confuse me, this regrettably seems to be how this world functions..."

Satori then states, curiously, as her third eye moves in closer to the screen and nudges it...

"Genessia is not Gensokyo, after all. In taking from them, you must at least give back a little, in this world. Mortals are weak and their sacrifices are many so that their fears might live. Consider them as you would anything else that holds meaning for you. If you cannot reconcile optimism or altruism with your vampiric nature - both of which strike me as being far too 'human' for my liking - at least ensure that any sacrifices in your name are not wasted."

"My love..." She blushes faintly. The only times she saw Satori's face that close were when they kissed.

"Unfortunately I was once human... I suppose I must, ah, adapt." There's a fear that Satori would no longer love her if she became too... human.

[A very quiet pause for a moment. One can almost hear that sinking in.]

....Yeah I know. I..I don't think we can change his mind either...

So basically you are trying to be Reimu or Marisa?

[A slight teasing tone but Cirno knows not to poke that much and moves on.]

Either way, you know what it's like. Sometimes good ones come along you don't wanna let go and then there are some you could go a hundred years or so without seeing again. Even if your job is to keep them safe.

[Surprisingly subtle way to say she's attached to those who she knows will go away one day..and she gets the protecting bit. She's not sure if she's even had the chance to talk with Remilia about things..or if she's been too nervous to try.]

[ Remilia is a little surprised. She would have never expected a reply like that from Cirno. ]

Marisa is annoying, I like Reimu better. I respect the black-white's power, however.

I suppose... they grew on me.

That's true. Marisa's fun to fight just to see if I've gotten stronger. Reimu won't even let me try....Or at least when I was back in Gensokyo.

They tend to do that. Even if you don't want to have them do it.

[After smiling a sort of bittersweet smile at the first part, the Doctor sighs at that last part, grimacing.]

...I'm sorry. I wish I could say they're always at their best... but they can be cruel, especially when they're frightened, when they forget they can be so much more. I'm very well aware.

So I'll just ask you, flat out - is there anything you need that I can give you? I know it usually helps me to blow off some steam when I get into that kind of black study.

Satori nods a little as her third eye nudges the camera affectionately once again, then gently adjusts it back into place.

"...While I spite humans for being fickle and headstrong to a fault, even I have my moments of...empathy and pity, however rare. Neither of us are alone in feeling this way, Remilia. Once you've gained enough introspection about the feelings driving this melancholy, I would be happy to help move forward. I should hope my advice helped you, but Youkai or Vampires alike, we are often set in our ways. My words come from hundreds of years of experience and highly subjective observation."

Well, that's how I see it, and I get the impression she'd rather see them learn to do better--and they will, eventually. They reach out for the stars, humans, and learn there are better ways to meet the unknown than with fear and fire and guns.

[At least, usually.]

...but it takes them a while--old habits die hard, and each one has such a short time to learn--and they could always use someone to guide them, to show them how to be their best, to remind them how much more they can be.

[He pauses a second and smiles wryly to himself.]

......I'd rather have liked a chance to show her, you know. 51st century, humans out in the galaxy, getting along with nearly ev'rything they meet, no longer hiding in the dark. I think she'd have liked to see that.

I did not influence the ghouls, you could've felt that much. The ghouls were the ones that broke the letter of the law, I simply hunted on those outside after night.

The little vampire's blush does fade eventually...

She gets what Satori means. "Being close to Dracula does cause some distrust..." Unlike him, she didn't give in fully to hatred, mostly because of Flandre.

Only where able bodied humans are concerned. The young, the old and disabled are not to be harmed. Not that many humans go out after dark here.

Just that you take out any ghouls that cannot be reasoned with, that are mindless. It won't do to confuse them with the kind you could have tea and a chat with.

What is the purpose of the Night Law anyway if you don't mind me asking? best to be in the know than go in not knowing anything.
