002 - New World

OK, show of hands (figuratively) are there people who got dragged into this place who: A.) does not have supernatural abilities, B.) is a member of the military, and C.) is American. OK OK that last part ain't necessary. But really so far I've only met, like, one dude who isn't magically attuned.

[ She wants to mention the fact that there have been recent supers who've been boasting about their greatness in the network, and ask about how Guardians can guarantee the protection of non-powered people from those with powers but she's here to make connections, not enemies. ]

Action - Fayren

[ Starting her job at Fayren as a hunter, Andrea arrives at the city's blacksmiths after fawning at the displays of magic from the local mages, browsing their wares for anything that might be useful for her in the future. She can be seen like a fish out of water, walking the narrow streets with a handgun on her side. Andrea approaches someone who she probably is mistaking for someone who is a local, tapping them on the shoulder and giving them a friendly smile and wave ]

Sorry to bother ya, buy you know a place that sells good knives? All I'm seeing are the bigger blades.

[omigosh it's ANDY. Satou takes her time crafting the most eloquent text response to impress her.]

[ Andrea feels herself smile so wide and laugh at Satou's response, even if she's out in public probably looking like a fool ]

Aww, sweetie. You were born a winner, then! Thought you were Japanese through and through. Which is awesome too. I was in Japan for a bit and it was awesome.

Didn't peg you for military though, even if it's the kinda-military type. You're really young!

[Xander turns when he feels the tap on his shoulder and looks at the woman who was trying to get his attention.]

Actually, I do. It's called Blades and Bows... and it's over in Nova City.

Is that how you get everyone's attention?

[Leo says as he looks over his shoulder in response to her tap. He almost sounds perplexed, because what kind of greeting is that? Oh well. He turns fully around, his Brynhildr tome resting in the crook of his arm.]

It depends on what types of knives you're looking for. There are a number of blacksmiths around that can get you a good blade.

Or, if you would more prefer something from a business owned by a pendant bearer, my brother works for a weaponry shop in Nova City. If you're willing to go that far out of your way, that is.

[ She blinks ]

I mean... yeah? I've seen their stuff, and they're not bad. But I was asking for places here in Fayren.

[ Andrea shrugs. She notices Xander's stiff demeanor and wonders if she annoyed him or if he's really just like this ]

Eh. Not everyone. Why, is that a taboo around here?

[ Andrea tilts her head, shrugging while putting her hands on her hips while she watches Leo's reaction to her tapping his shoulder ]

And if you mean Blades and Bows, I've been there. I'm currently crashing in Nova, but I'm really more on the lookout for the more "traditional" styles.

Not particularly. If anything, it's a good way to determine who's more accustomed to the other cities. The others aren't quite as... formal, shall we say.

[He had to learn the art of the hand shake, after all. Which is an odd way to greet people, to say the least.]

Ah, I see. Well, in that case, I can show you the forge that I purchased my sword from.

[That fancy piece that's hanging elegantly from his hip. He moves Brynhildr to his other hand and draws the blade, offering the blade horizontally to her if she wished to look it over.]

If you wish to get an idea of their craftsmanship. I believe they have done some commission work for a few at the Ivory Tower, including myself. They're priced quite reasonably for the quality of their work.

Um. I'm two of those? I'm not in the military.

[Supernatural things have happened to and around him, but he doesn't have powers himself.]

[ Andrea happily takes the chance to get a closer look at the blade that Leo presents to her, careful not to let her unprotected fingers touch the blade so Leo wouldn't have to wipe it. ]

I saved up most of the money I woke up with, so I probably can handle something pricey. That blade of yours look like the kind of quality I'm looking for. No doubt perfect for a knight like you. I'm guessin'.

[ Knight as in nobility who could afford these sort of weapons. ]

Uhhhhhh lemme guess. You're a werewolf?

[ It's the first pawed creature she thought of that are capable of human-level communication. At least some werewolves are ]

It's a lot to get used to.

What a terrible guess! I'm hardly a were or a wolf, let alone a werewolf.

[Not that Ches has ever met a werewolf personally, so perhaps they are somewhat like Cheshire Cats?]

I doubt their knives will cost as much as this particular sword did, so I don't think you'll have any trouble affording it. The difference between knives and swords aside, mine was on the more expensive side because of the ornate hilt.

[Not that he really needed a weapon so ornate, but it went well with his equipment and it was functional on top of that, so why not spend the extra? He returns the sword to his sheath, gesturing for him to follow him.]

The blacksmith is this way. Come with me.

[The smith in question wasn't particularly far, but they were tucked off in a bit of a corner that they'd be easy to miss if one wasn't aware they were there. The blacksmith himself was off making more equipment in the back, but his associate was up front at the counter where knives, daggers and other smaller weaponry was on display. The walls were decorated with axes, shields and all sorts of other weaponry made there.

How's that for a good variety, Andy?]

[ Andrea follows Leo to the blacksmith, making sure to remember the path the prince took to it. Andrea wonders why this blacksmith seem to be hidden where customers can't find them, but then again Fayren is much like a medieval world where customers are different and zoning laws are different. She didn't put it much though as soon as they make it there, eyes instantly absorbed by the sight of the weapon display. ]

Well, I'll be damned... That's some display.

[ Andrea walks toward the store itself whistling with amazement, greeting the associate with a nod. Quick to browse the items up close and pick one up for herself. A particularly large, double-bladed axe got her attention. She picks it up like it's a mere feather duster despite how heavy it sounded when she lifts it up. ]

You weren't kiddin'. No offense to the other guys, but you can tell the difference from how it looks alone.

[ She puts the axe back on the wall, to inspect the ones she came here for. The knives were pretty medieval in design. Parrying daggers, cruciform daggers, some knives with handles made from horn. ]

You said you do work for some Ivory Tower. Fancy name, that. Is it some kind of guild?

[coldstar]

Well nice to meet you, Peter. Can I call you Pete? Figured to ask and probably have a little gathering sometime with our fellow non-magicals. Might help us get used to this place easier.

Where exactly in the US you from? I'm from Houston

Then what are you? No offense. Creatures with paws can't ever send text messages where I'm from. That, or you're just messing with me.

I'm an ordinary human war veteran. Why are you asking?

Just trying to see how many of us are out there. I feel out of place in a world where people have supernatural abilities, so hey maybe we get enough people we can form a club with nice jackets.

Where did you serve though, and how long were you in?

[petergraham]

Uh, nobody calls me Pete... but I guess? If you want to.

I'm from Utah.

[saxophone]

I do like jackets. Maybe something with leather trim? Red's a good color, too.

I served on Titan for too long. It was a brutal, bullshit war. That's all I have to say about it.

I have a lot of opinions on jackets, though.

[ The war is a tough subject for him. He's not going to talk about it any further than that. ]

Papa was Japanese. I was named 'Satou' to match our surname.

Yes! I worked for the magical government back home. I was trained to work in small teams, and eventually on my own, in special task assignments. My specialty was capturing and disabling dangerous criminals.

[coldstar]

[ If Satou's goal is to impress Andy, then she definitely succeeded. That actually got a whistle out of the older woman. Smiling with pride, she texts back ]

You sound like a badass. I didn't expect that from a girl who shrieks at haunted houses! JK, but you're full of pleasant surprises, kiddo. I like that!

Starting to get used to the idea of magic in everyday life, so we should totally hang out and train sometime then you can show me that in action.

To tell the truth, my non-magic combat could use an upgrade. I'm used to magic hunters nullifying my magic back home, but I don't have many non-lethal strategies for dealing with that.
