[The first thing those individuals closest to Mai might notice is that she was looking a little...different.]

[It wasn't just the red eyes. Or the hints of wings fluttering behind her. Or even the lengthening of her nails to something resembling claws. It was more than the oddly casual posture in which she saw, or even the look of boredom she wore in her expression.]

[What was most interesting would be the fact that she was wearing a very distinct makeup look. Something she hadn't done in...at least 30 years' time.]

I was going to insist this all be temporary at first...but you know what?

I think I kind of like it.

[Trunks is hoping that is her 'curse' talking, because he's less than sure about the changes. But he is trying to keep any hint of that out of his voice or expression. Whether he succeeds is...questionable, considering Mai knows him better than anyone.]

It's definitely an interesting look...

[She knows him, yes. Enough to detect that his words were carrying a great deal of less than 100% sincerity behind them. ]

[Exactly why, she couldn't be sure. And to be perfectly honest? In that moment, under the influence...she didn't particularly care, either.]

Probably the closest I've felt to my old self in a long time. But better.

[She may not care, but he does--and he is concerned.]

I do like the make-up. But it's still a bit concerning, all the sudden changes.

[A half-hearted shrug was her response.]

Still not the weirdest change I've ever gone through. Sudden or otherwise.

And this is definitely still preferable to becoming a toddler again.

No, I have to agree with you there, even if I don't have quite the same experience.

[There's a sigh, and he is concerned--but he also wants her happy.]

How are you adjusting to the wings? I can keep you company, if you want to go flying.

[And try and keep an eye on her, to see what changes might be less obvious.]

[She doesn't need a demon-sitter, gosh...]

I suppose I haven't had a chance to really stretch my new wings yet. Right now, they're just kind of...there.

[Can't really blame him for being jumpy though, considering the last few weeks. More vampire-shenanigans, not to mention arrogant gods ~~including Zamasu~~. He's trying to not worry so much, and look at the fun aspects, alright?]

Well, Nova's harder to learn with, because of the rocket-packs and robots, but we could head to Fayren, or even just the park in Genessia City.

[The irony was that temporarily becoming demonic had done wonders for Mai's stress levels on those matters. She no longer feared or even worried about ~~that psychotic edamame~~ Zamasu, nor was she concerning herself over inter-vampire issues.]

The park. How lovely.

[There might have been a touch of sarcasm to her tone. Almost indecipherable, except she never spoke like that. Not typically.]

Sounds so very public. Is that Saiyan pride of yours eager to show off, Trunks?

[There's a blink, and it's clear he hadn't expected the sarcasm. Or the rest of it.]

Wha--no, and you know me better than that Mai.

[He wouldn't deny that he did take pride in his skills, and did seek to better them--but that wasn't was driving this. As much as he was concerned by her demonic-status, he also honestly did want to help her learn to use her wings if she wanted. Even if flying for him wasn't the same...]

Where would you rather go to learn to fly then?

[She shook her head at the question.]

It doesn't matter what I'd rather.

[For a fleeting second, it almost seemed like the regular Mai slipping through...until she leaned a little further into the camera:]

It was your idea. That means you have to see it through. Even planning the time and location.

[Blink. Blink-blink. Huh?]

Well, since you obviously don't like the park, how about we head to the beach in Fayren? Lots of clear air-space, and the ocean is softer than the ground most of the time with sudden impacts.

I could be ready as early as this evening if it'd work for your schedule.

[His first thoughts aren't actually related to how date-like this sounds. That'll occur eventually, but not right then.]

It's a date, then.

[She said with a sly sink. Well aware of his obliviousness to the thought and voicing as much aloud for that reason alone.]

I'll be waiting for you down by the water. Don't be too late, or else I may have to go it solo.

[And with that, she didn't wait for a response before ending the connection. Letting the boy stew on his thoughts while she stretched a little more in preparation of getting up to head for Fayren.]

[The abrupt cut-off also makes him blink. Then what she'd said sunk in, and Trunks groaned to himself, in embarrassment. Not that he minded making a date with Mai (they'd had quite a few, mostly for dinner), but out of how off kilter he felt. More so than usual even, when it came to matters of romance.

Still, he did want to spend time with Mai. Demon or no. This would also be good to see how she was affected by the change in form.

So he had work to do to get ready then, clearing his obligations to not be late. Fayren was huge, but Trunks knew Mai's ki-signature as well as his own (even with it slightly changed too.) It shouldn't take him too long to find her; heading straight from work to Fayren, and the shoreline, looking for her Mai's ki.]

It's not bad.

[Yeah. Really, it isn't. He just shrugs.]

[She hardly batted an eyelash at him or his shrug.]

Actually...it is a little.

I think that's what I like most. The familiarity--no, the nostalgia.

[It wouldn't be difficult to find. Nor would Mai.]

[For someone who had never flown before, she certainly seemed to be taking to it well. Only a few meters above ground, yes, her movements sharp and unpracticed, but seemingly at ease with any impending dangers she might now face. She looked confident. Free.]

[Whether or not she noticed Trunks' arrival, she gave no indication. Hovering over the edge of the water, she seemed to be bracing herself for something before letting her wings fall...and her along with them, landing in the water with a joyous splash. Dipping below the surface for only a few seconds before emerging, soaking wet and laughing as the cool air struck her face.]

[Straight from work, in his usual clothes and with his sword. But he'd cleared his obligations, and the beach thankfully wasn't hard to find in Fayren. It was a bit more specific than just meeting 'in the forest'. Knowing he was looking for Mai's ki made it even easier, and it didn't take long at all before he had her in visual range.

Seeing her with wings though, was still a bit of a shock. Enough so that he didn't even think about how strange it was she seemed to have little trouble with them. But she was still Mai, still felt like Mai, and Trunks would take comfort in that as he watched her for a few moments.

Then moving closer as she dropped, before hovering and smiling when she emerged with laughter. A genuine smile, fond, and loving, and pleased for her. She should laugh and be that carefree all the time.]

...got started without me, huh?

[She turned her head at the sound of his voice, but rather than a timid blush or even sheepish smile at having been caught...her only response was to lean back so she could float above the water. Eyes closing as her hands lazily guided her through the ripples.]

You took too long. I got bored.

Are you coming?

[Considering they hadn't really specified a time, he briefly pondered how he could've been taking 'too long'. It wasn't worth mentioning though, and while it was not a normal Mai--as how he knew her--response, she still seemed content and happy. Which was all he cared about in some ways.]

Well, the point was to fly, not to swim. But we could swim too if you wanted...

I am flying. Floating is basically flying on water, wouldn't you agree?

[Never mind how little sense it may or may not have made. Or a lack of prior established time frame. Or...well...much of anything, really.]

It's 'easy-mode'.

[Offered with a teasing half-smirk.]

How far'd you get in practice before I got here?

[One hand came up to wave at the air dismissively. All the while, her wings seeming to take over for her hands, wiggling back and forth in such a manner to keep her (mostly) straight along her current course.]

So what's wrong with being easy once in a while? Much more relaxing than hard work. I'm tired of working hard. It feels like that's all I've ever done. Mine or someone else's. Usually the latter.

[Trunks moved closer to keep pace with her as they both hovered over the water.]

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it...

[Inwardly, her comments about hard work made him raise an eyebrow. Not that she didn't have a right to complain. But she'd rarely expressed such sentiments before...]

So you don't want to go soaring high in the sky, above and through the clouds?

[It was very unlike Mai to shrug responsibility and opt for sheer laziness. Or...some might say...taking up a more sloth-like demeanor.]

Who says I'm not?

[She risked peeking an eye open, glancing his way for a split second before turning her attention upward.]

From where I'm looking, I might as well be. There's nothing between me and those clouds right now.

Well, as long as you're getting used to your wings, then that's what matters.

[It was worrying, but if that was the only change then it wasn't too bad.]
