[Lea appears on the network, looking over his copy of the invitation that went out to everyone a little while ago, and apparently deep in thought.]

So hey... was just wondering who all was actually planning on going to this masquerade thing?

[Holds up invitation.]

I've been kinda going back and forth on it myself. I mean, on one hand it might be fun, but on the other hand, I'd have to dress up. And I'm not much of a dancer, at least not the kind of dancing that's likely to go on at a fancy party like this.

Want to borrow a costume from a friend o' mine? I'll teach you how to dance if you want.

Even if dancing isn't something you consider "your thing" it would be fun to go, don't you think? You don't have to do what everyone else is doing to enjoy yourself. And you might make some new friends.

[ She beams brightly at Lea, her hands clapped together. ]

Hmm... There's probably a lot of people who aren't really into dancing. It's a party right? Even if it's kind of fancy, it sounds like it might be pretty fun if you got to go with friends or something.

[probably none of her business, since she doesn't know this guy, but honestly she'd give the same advice to anyone who wasn't certain about something like this. Giving it a try wouldn't hurt right?]

There's going to be a party? I've heard of those, but I've never really been to one.

[Atreus should really be focusing more on trying to make sure he's settled in, but... he's ten. He's ten, and starved for fun.]

If you can ask me to a Valentine's Day party, you'd do well at any kind of party.

I think there's going to be plenty of people who don't know how to dance at this event. I mean, we come from all different worlds and backgrounds. I say you should go and have fun. Besides, it never hurts to have one nice outfit in your wardrobe.

Yeah! I'll go! When is it, where is it, how do I get in?

There's not much to dancing, you just kind of.. move around.. like with music. It's totally no big deal. Also, what does it mean to dress up, like... what's that about, what are you thinking?

I'll pass on borrowing costumes thanks; not that I don't appreciate it, but it's hard enough for me to find pants that fit me without getting them second hand.

A dance lesson or two probably wouldn't hurt though. Don't know how much actual dancing I'll be doing, but I should at least make sure I'm not going to step on people's feet, you know?

I guess. Though I don't know what all there really is to do at parties like that, aside for eating and dancing.

That's partly why I posted this message; I wanted to see how many people I knew were planning on going. Not a lot of point in going if I wouldn't have anyone to hang out with, you know?

[Lea looks a bit surprised.]

You've really never been to a party before? Not even for a friend's birthday or something?

Oh, yeah! Right! That's actually a pretty good idea now that you mention it. I hope you find out a bunch of your friends are going, so you can have fun.

I bet they won't even care if you aren't into dancing either!

[He smiles sheepishly and blushes a bit, rubbing the back of his neck.]

Well... yeah, but that was more a carnival than a party. No one had to dress up for it or anything. And I can't really fudge it like I did the prom thing, since it says 'formal attire'. Don't know where I'd even get something formal, honestly...

[Faint memories of his mother dragging him off too a shop to be stuffed into a less than comfortable suit for a family friend's wedding as a kid are certainly no help.]

[She taps her chin to ponder a bit.]

I usually try to find something that's easy to move in...but I suppose attire for men is different. But I'm sure any clothing shop would have something formal?

[What kind of clothing shop wouldn't?]

I have nice outfits. They're just wouldn't qualify as 'formal'.

[Or even semi-formal for most of them. They're nice because he likes them and is comfortable in them.]

Never really had to get something formal on my own, honestly. The one time I can recall needing a suit as a kid, my mom took me somewhere to get one.

Six o'clock in the evening on the ninth, in a big ballroom at this one fancy hotel in Genessia City. The address should be in the invite; I'm pretty sure everybody got one, and if you didn't, I've seen posters around too. And it looks like it's open to the public, so I presume you get in just by showing up there at the right time.

But it's 'formal attire', which means you'll need to wear a tux, or at least a nice suit. And a mask too, since it's a masquerade party.

Yeah, from what I can recall, suits and tuxes definitely don't qualify 'as easy to move in'.

And I'm sure a lot of clothing stores would have some things, but it'd be more a question of finding something that would fit. Especially pants; you'd really be surprised how hard it is to find pants other than jeans that fit properly on me.

[Lea is a tol beanpole, and most everything is a little too short.]

[He chuckles.]

I guess not. I mean if all else fails, we could at least be wallflowers together.

Yeah! As long as you're having fun, it shouldn't matter what you all wind up doing. [there's a pause, and then she adds the following almost hastily]

Well, as long as it's not wrecking anyone else's fun either. But you don't really seem like the kind of guy to do something like that.

Hmm...you know, I've seen some people advertising their tailoring services on the network. Perhaps you can find someone to make something for you?

[Custom fit and all...]

Yeah, my friends and I wouldn't do that. Well, not on purpose anyway. And if we ended up doing it accidentally, we'd try and fix it; only fair, after all.

[Lea considers.]

Might be able to do that.

Now I'd just have to find a tux or something for them to alter in time for the party, since even if I was willing to spend the munny to get something made from scratch, there probably wouldn't be time before the party.

That sounds like a good plan.

Was that your only concern? Other than the dancing? Formal dancing is...quite simple; even I was able to learn it quickly.

I've never really been to one myself, but I'm sure there is more you can do, even if it's just chatting with your friends.

Not really. My mom would celebrate my birthday with me, but...

[He trails off for a second, before shaking his head.]

It wasn't really a party.
