Ninth Scoop: Rallying the trolls [Action for Nova City/Video for everyone else]

[ In Nova City, a large crowd has gathered in front of a government building. Probably a court house. But it's an important building! Nevertheless, the crowd is nothing but a sea of picket posters with witty and/or catchy slogans, angry faces, and LED tiki torches. They're not savages, after all. This event is being broadcast in most cities with the capability to stream it, and Neo is taking the podium. In her hands is a different device than the one she usually uses. She holds it up, and it looks like one of those devices of ancient times. Neo uses one hand to sign, as the usual voice pops up on the loud speaker, while a large screen behind her projects the words in easy to read font.

"They want us to use their already available technology and just get on with our lives. Well, let's send them a message."

So she begins typing, and it's taking a while to get the message typed up. Sometimes her face looked frustrated and the crowd encourages her to press on! What nice people! After about five minutes, Neo is ready to present her message, and a robotic sort of voice pops up. Clearly not as sophisticated as hers:

"You suck."

The crowd erupts into laughter, which transitions to rowdy applause and whistles. Neo just gives a cheeky smile with a shrug. What a message! She holds up the device again before addressing the crowd.

"This is what they want us to use? Did you see how long it took to just type in two measly words? They say we can simply get medical implants to allow us to speak freely, but if you're not a resident of Nova City, you're paying for that out of your OWN pockets! Do you think they're going to pay most of your non-essential surgery?!"

The crowd erupts with a boisterous "NO!"

"The government claims that such technology isn't their domain. But guess what? It IS their domain to make sure it's citizens are treated fairly by companies that half-ass technology for the differently abled and expect us to be satisfied. It is their RESPONSIBILITY to keep their companies in check by providing laws that go the distance for us, not just meet the minimum standards to satisfy the government! If they can't even do that, what good are they for?!"

Loud cheers and clapping are fueled by Neo's words.

"The government knows we're right because they're too scared to even LOOK at our lawsuit! {the crowd boos and hisses} These lawsuits represent us, our voice, and we aren't going to be ignored! We're going to keep fighting until they decide to meet us in court!"

Someone in the crowd starts chanting "READ OUR SIGNS! READ OUR SIGNS!", which catches with others in the crowd, and soon enough, the entire city is bathed in those three words. Neo just smiles, glad to lead such an angry crowd. Deep down, she hopes they start looting. She could use a new crepe maker.

[Jesus Christ, could things possibly get more annoying in Nova right now? Gale was parked nearby the building the main part of the crowd was at, slouched over his bike and glaring at everyone there. He was only there to ensure they weren't about to get violent- don't get your hopes up on that new crepe maker, Neo. Gale's already got robo-cops on standby.

He watches silently, his mask on so he could keep track of some movements (and it was especially effective at hiding his frequent eyerolls). His job had nothing to do with what these people were protesting, but safety was his job. That's the only reason he's here. Keep it peaceful, squirt, otherwise you're in trouble.]

Plus what if those implants explode by some stroke of bad luck or something?

[Out of all things Baldur has decided to be his usual self. Plus rallying a crowd just seems like fun. Plus... he had an inkling if he actually came into contact with someone who did that could potentially work and it sounded like fun.]

[He's really curious about this because of Neo's use of sign language - a skill he had only picked up himself upon finding himself here in Genessia not long ago at all. He doesn't exactly follow everything she's saying - what's a "lawsuit", what are medical implants, etc. - but it sounds like people who rely on sign language to speak are being treated unfairly.

He... thinks.]

Um... So what, exactly, was it that you wanted them to do for you?

[He's not totally sure what a "company" is, but certain phrases have been easier to pick up over his time here. He knows that "keyboards" are what you use to make text appear, but "jet packs" is a phrase he's never been exposed to before. He'll have to look that up later.]

So you mean... like the thing you're using that makes a voice come out when you sign? Where'd you get yours?

I mean... Unless that's your thing. But people don't usually do anything until something happens.

[Plus he would love to see it really.]

I mean with what your doing now, might not do anything because it's not bad enough.

[He thinks for a moment, head tilting a bit to one side. Then, tentatively - because he's never tried this outside of practice...

He signs back. There's no accompanying voice, but surely she can read sign language the old-fashioned way.

"Can whoever made that one help?"

It's probably very easy to read his signing, since it's executed perfectly.]

Exactly. To see the change something has to happen. Sad... as that might be. Extremes are a thing.

[Baldur was bored and just wanted to cause problems in some way.]

Baldur. Always remember it.
