[ There is a brown-haired man slouched against the wall of what has to be one of the studio apartments in the Commonspace. This, logically, probably means he's new. And what he says next will tip 'probably' to 'definitely'. ]

The lady hologram mentioned free lodging for a month before we gotta find somewhere else to stay. Can anyone hook a fella up with a job? I ain't afraid of manual labor, if that makes a difference.

[ He pauses, clearly uncomfortable with this, and adds: ] Thanks for your time.

[ Action ]

[ It's been approximately twenty-four since he woke up in that damn cocoon thing. A day since he had a small freak out by his lonesome, then took the necklace and the pamphlet and headed off to find what the hell was going on. The hologram had been surprisingly helpful on some aspects, and unsurprisingly not so helpful in others. Like who had brought him there, what they wanted, and how they'd done it. The level of technology needed to knock out and deposit him in a completely new world would be so advanced they might as well be aliens.

And, since he can't do a damn thing about it right now, James Barnes is roaming the city. Aimlessly. Or not so aimlessly. He's drawing a map in his head of the area around the free apartments, and then branching out from there. The tourist info included directions on how to get around, but he prefers to get eyes on everything he can. Because you never know when a midnight escape run down unlit streets, or across farmland, is going to be necessary.

He's also not doing much to make himself look friendly. Harmless, maybe, definitely not friendly. He will tip his ballcap when passing women, though. Some habits are just too old to break. ]

I'm sure there's plenty of people who can around here, but what skill sets do you have? That would help.

Not a half-bad mechanic with cars, I can wash dishes and bus tables, speak a few languages, and I'm good at construction. I can also type and file paperwork at a reasonable rate.

[ all if which is true. it's just not the whole story. ]

I'd offer you a job with my business, but I'm only looking for bodyguards right now. I'm sure there are other job openings for such that you describe as well with other business though. You should be able to find a listing open positions.

[ It's just an average teenager on the feed. He's trying to disguise his rural Virginia accent but it's still pretty noticeable. ]

[ Standing on a street corner handing out flyers isn't exactly Hannah's idea of 'upwardly mobile,' but you gotta start somewhere. At eighteen with a pretty much empty resume, she really couldn't expect much more. At least she doesn't have to wear a costume.

When Bucky passes by her and tips his hat, she can't help but snort. She doesn't need courtesy, she needs to get rid of these flyers. She has a sneaking feeling she'll be found out if she just drops them all in a trash can somewhere. ]

[ Average is okay. He's shooting for average and nondescript himself. So good job, kid. ]

Yeah, sure. Where should I send this theoretical gossip?

[ He stops, but only because it's the polite thing to do. A young woman asks you a question, one that isn't related to death or dismemberment, and you stop to listen.

His eyebrows do shoot up beneath the hat once he's heard the spiel. ]

Don't have a kitchen or money to get pie ingredients. [ He's broke, Hannah. ] But I suppose I can take one or two off your hands.

There's lots of jobs here. It's not too hard to nab one around here. If you can pour drinks, you can try bartending. That's what I did when I rolled in here.

Bartending seems doable. Thanks for the tip, I'll add it to the list.

No problem. I work at Fortuna Palace and they're always hiring. It's not too bad a place to pick up work.

Ah sweet, thanks! [ Hannah hands over six flyers. What? They got stuck together when she cut them. ]

Yeah, tell me about it. They gave me some money when I got here but I'm a little nervous to spend it on something so frivolous. And, surprise surprise, this isn't really paying a living wage.

[ Hannah crosses her arms, head tilted to the side. ] Thinking of it that way, what's wrong with spending a couple bucks for pie? We've already been taken from our homes. Why torture ourselves?

[ Yessir they are both so totally average. ]

Well, I think everybody new gets a place for the first month so there I guess? I'm Adam by the way.

[ Beat. ]

I dunno if this is used like CraigsList but you're the first person I've seen sayin' anythin' about it.

Where is that? [ since he's still learning his way around. ]

[ if nothing else, and if the flyers are only printed on one side, he can use them to make lists and maps. so really, she's clearly doing him a favor here. ]

The people here could have just dumped us in a prison somewhere until things got sorted out. So getting a job isn't unreasonable. Is it the first one you've tried?

[ he's opting to ignore the pie question for now. it's complicated. ]

[ That's the story and they're sticking to it. ]

Yeah, that's what I was told. But I'd rather be proactive. Find somewhere else before I'm kicked out.

What's craigslist?

Yeah. I asked in that grocery store over there, kinda just rolled with it. I mean I'm regretting it, don't get me wrong, but it's something, until I can find a job less...well, not this. I just don't really have a resume.

[ She sighs, shaking her head. ] Waiting tables or something, I guess. I just don't want to have to start as a hostess or bussing or whatever. You can't live on tip-out. What are you looking for? [ Hannah grins, miming a hat tip. ] Bull rider?

It's over in Nova City. It's a casino, so they got a lot of different positions they're probably looking for.

Just something to keep a roof over my head. [ he shrugs casually. ] Waiting tables ain't bad, but it won't fund a high roller lifestyle, thats for sure.

Maybe you could try for a secretarial or receptionist job somewhere.

I'm looking for a receptionist right now. I think my mom's business is still looking for a store clerk.

No worries. It's not a bad place to earn some coin if you wind up there.

[ Since there are people here from different worlds, Adam feels like he should have known better than to use that reference. He winces a bit. ]

Sorry 'bout that. It's a website that people use ta buy an' sell stuff. Some people post 'for hire' ads too.

Yeah, a shrink ray's a good comparison! Doing the product demonstrations and the employee discount is probably the coolest part of the store clerk job there.

It's in Nova City, in any case. Just tell my mom that Bulla sent you if you stop by to apply there and she'll probably at least interview you.

As in ads for offering and wanting sexual favors.
