Video | Action for Genessia
[VOICE]
[There's no visual for this. It sounds as if whoever is on this frequency has placed it next to an old radio, the sound of the frequency being tuned as static gently hisses and pops.
Then, a soft click, and a voice sounds, cheerful and bouncy]
Good morning and a happy Sunday, ladies and gents! It is a beautiful day out here, absolutely stunning, I can scarcely believe my own two eyes! I've seen a lot my friends, I've seen an awful lot and let me tell you, I don't remember ever seeing anything like this! My, my, my my my, how things have changed, all it takes is a few decades, hahaha!
[The background crackle and pop of static continued to tint that voice, as if the phone was, in fact, really set aside next to some old vacuum tube radio. But by the distinct, clear sound of cars flying past and the crisp noise of city life distantly continuing in the back of this frequency, something didn't quite seem to match up as neatly as it should.]
Now I don't want to be a pushy sort, sure don't mind having a look around for myself, nothing quite like a chance to stretch your legs and explore! But I could sure use a nice, friendly face here to give me a good run down.
Sure, I listened to the stand-alone picture show down there, called herself a hologram, and friends, I have no idea what that is, sorry to say! Not a single clue! Now not to seem like a choosing beggar, but I'd rather be getting my information from someone who answers questions back! Lovely girl though, an absolute stunner, shame about being a recording, apparently. I'm assuming that's how that works.
Anywhoo! I'm over here just outside that cave, first bus stop on the left hand side of the street, can't miss me, friends, can't miss me!
[Apparently, this radio voice fully expects to be helped.]
[ACTION]
[You couldn't miss him.
Seven feet and eight inches, dressed head to toe in crimson. A pair of long, bushy ears sat atop his head, twiggy, four pointed antlers between those.
There's an uncomfortable sort of energy about him. A manic, twitchy, buzzing sort of sensation of sleepless anxiety. That smile is stretched disconcertingly wide, mouth full of razor sharp, yellow teeth. Crimson eyes like saucers, darting here and there and everywhere as he stood patiently, quietly, inhumanly still at that bus stop, taking in every single detail of the area in which he stood. One scarlet clawed hand remains wrapped around a cane, the topper shaped like an old radio microphone, gently tapping ever so lightly against the metal of it.
He won't be moving, don't bother to tell him to get out of your way.]

[voice] dropkicks squid
[the voice is strange, but she's met so many strange people in Genessia it's hard to phase her anymore, to be honest.
...if and when she sees him that will change. That. Will. Change.]
[voice] WHY THO
I got a few questions about employment! Now you see, last time I was on this side of the stairs, I was in show business, a radio host, you see!
I'd sure like to go back into that, but if there's no market for me well, looks like I'm just plum outta luck! Gotta have money to make it through the week, dinner doesn't just buy itself!
You know where I could go to get a decent job?
because i can, you wanna go?
Goodness, You certainly seem to have the personality for show business. You might want to look at Fama Talent Agency and see if they could find a position for you in that line of work.
[there's a pause and a thoughtful hum to herself.] I've worked for them for a while now, and I have no complaints.
right now, parking lot, lets go
Not that I don't think I could switch things up, I'm a man of many talents, but I sure loved radio, ma'am, sure loved it! Would be absolutely delighted to get back into it.
Fama Talent you said? Sounds like a plan to me! They on the map I got here?
uppercut
[There's a pause] I'd not experienced any before arriving, but it does seem that television and movies seem to be quite a bit more popular. But you might find an audience with a Radio themed act— the nova citizens might find it particularly curious.
/i get the chair
[Frankly kind of enthralled by the traffic. He's never seen anything quite like this before.]
That's the Future Land city they got here, right? Well hot dog, I'll have to give that a look won't I? Thanks for the tip, ma'am, I sure do appreciate the help.
Video
Aheh, I'd say you've the gist of what a hologram is very well: a non-responsive recording. A run down, eh? I'll answer what I can, provided you provide parity: what's your name? Oh! Mine's Ted, for a start.
voice
It's just swell to meet you, Ted, an absolute pleasure!
Name's Alastor, son, and I must say, I'd love to get a little more information on where I am. Pamphlets and recordings are all well and good, friend, but nothing quite replaces good old one on one.
Re: voice
That's correct. And thank you, I'm flattered. Your own name is very cheery for its meaning. Not out to avenge something, eh?
Ah, well, the name of your location is Genessia. The Bay, if you've been still, would be the part to the aforementioned whole. Where it is in relation to anywhere else is still mysterious; for now, take Genessia as good as the globe. It bears many likenesses to Earth, if that planet's familiar to you.
The world's divided into fifths, of which Genessia City--also where you are--is the center from which the other four cardinally spread.
Re: voice
Well that isn't too hard to keep track of! Which one of these five lovely locations would happen to be sticks, son? The boonies, the backwoods? A man needs a good combination of the high life and solitude after all.
No video
[At least, he hopes it's the Greek. Demonology isn't so rosy.]
If you want for ruralities, two come to mind: there's Attleton, to the east, which boasts a thinner population and quieter mode of living. When the mafia's not being unruly, anyway. Then there's fantastic Fayren, to the south, which is more medieval yet. It's bustling in the middle, though it wanes as you deviate, from city to farmland to wilderness, according to taste. You're not likely to find any holograms there, unless a wizard conjures something like.
The color on your necklace hints at which suits you better.
[And just cause he's so concerned...]
Did your phone take on water? The audio isn't up to its usual quality.
no subject
What's the commute like from, say, Attleton to Nova?
[Glossing right over Fayren. Fantasy and pixies and dragons and princesses weren't really Alastor's thing.]
Picked up on the importance of the jewelry! Not really my style but I understand the need, don't worry about that.
[And moving right along-]
You know, I woke up in a pretty damp place, kiddo, chances are it probably did get wet while I was in there! I'm a bit old fashioned, didn't realize these had to be kept high and dry, my friend! I'll have to give it a good look when I get half the chance.
no subject
Mm, there are many variables. There's whether you're much for vehicles, and whether you own one--most don't--or take the train that goes 'round the border. Otherwise it's up to your fitness and the length of your stride. If you go straight through, that would be the hypotenuse of a right triangle. The square root of twelve and sixteen's squares would be...twenty! Twenty blocks; a healthy man casually strolling would make that in forty minutes, whereas a hurried pace might pare to thirty.
Not too bad, if you keep up with your exercise.
[Does he mean he understood and accepted the fact that it marked him as "real", and by extension, others as not? A heady subject that Alastor didn't seem to mind, if so.]
Aheh, not the most masculine of decorations, but good you take it in stride.
Ah, my condolences. It's fifty to get a new one, though otherwise yours seems to function fine, and you've five thousand bills to start with anyhow.
no subject
[she can understand that, having never experienced cars before at all, but it does... concern her a little.]
But yes, Nova is the most advanced technologically. Personally, I am much more fond of Fayren to live. I have however visted Nova on occasion. [but she does send him coordinates on her phone. she's at least mastered how to do that.]
no subject
[Are you concerned he's gonna go play in it]
Fayren sounds lovely, ma'am, real lovely, absolutely idyllic but I don't think there'd be much place for me over there.
Love to visit it though, maybe while I'm on a holiday!
Thanks for the directions, ma'am, I appreciate it!
Now, how'd you go about doing that to begin with? I can't make heads or tails of this thing.
no subject
Goodness. [he jumps from topic to topic so quickly.] It's an application, it may be on the first screen there... but perhaps I should have come in person after all, it's much easier to learn when I can show you physically.
no subject
Shame it doesn't match the wardrobe, awful chunky. Thank goodness for deep pockets, huh?
Well if the little doodad works just fine the way it is, I don't see a reason to change it! After all, sounds just fine over here, you come over as crisp and clear as a summers day, friend! Bright a bell!
no subject
I'm still right next to the cave, if you want to come by now, haven't budged much since I got out.
no subject
[It takes her only a short while to make her way into Genessia, and another short while until she's near the bay, trying to look for what she assumes would go with the voice she's been talking to.
She sees Alastor, but uh, doesn't make the connection.]
no subject
Hey, he's got forever, literally.
Finally though, at length-]
You looking for someone, sweetheart?
no subject
Sorry, I suppose I had made some judgments on what to expect you looked like based on your voice. It's nice to meet you in person, Alastor.
[you're a fucking deer.]
no subject
He doesn't seem at all surprised to hear that she'd been looking for someone less.... Him looking.]
I can see I'm a bit of a stranger here, I understand the confusion, ma'am!
[That voice was still tinny, still artificial sounding, as if being filtered through that same old radio, complete with the occasional scratchy hiss and pop]
Pleasure to meet you face to face, ma'am, quite a pleasure!
I have to say, I'm impressed with your little doodad skills.
[The communicator was produced, off of course, he'd shut it off the very second the conversation was done. That much he'd figured out, what the power button was.
And, well. What the fuck else were you supposed to do after you were done with a phone call?]
no subject
[as she talks she's slowly showing him how to navigate around the main screen by examples. This is the simple part.]
no subject
[Boy is he familiar with deep pockets.]
Hehe, what admirable frugality. Well, that'll make for a lovely surprise when I discover what you sound like unmarred. Look like too, I suppose; pure or garbled, acoustics and aesthetics never pair like one imagines, eh?
Well, is there any more service desired? Any curiosities left to quell?
no subject
Well sir, I'd hate to take up more of your time, I think all that's left for me to do is start hitting the pavement! I only got so much free money, and winter's right around the corner, I see! Three meals and a roof isn't going to pay for itself!
What's your take on this Fama Talent Agency? I'd like to get back into show business again.
no subject
I'd never be able to tell you're a fish out of water, ma'am, you're an absolute natural.
I take a lot of pride in keeping my head clear and my hopes up, ma'am! Optimism is the best trait a man can have! Why, if you can't find a reason to smile, then life isn't even worth living.
Now, how do you get that map to show up on this whatzit again?
no subject
They're very pliant; I've never heard them reject anyone and most find employment with them very easily. That's the case all over the world, really; you'll not want for work here. What sort of entertainment did you?
no subject
Speaking of radio, that's what I used to do! I was one hell of a radio show host, before the accident.
no subject
The more you use it, the more it comes to be second nature. [she offers a smile after looking back over at him from the phone. He sure does look strange, but fortunately the cheerful, disarming personality softens the edge a little.]
no subject
[Manners should keep him from laughing, but man, just thinking about hearing this weirdo talk like that in person has him giggling.]
Well you've, aheh, certainly got a voice for it. I look forward to hearing you live.
no subject
Much obliged, ma'am, much obliged! I'm sure I'll get this down in no time.
Got another quick question: I heard these amulets are color coded. One color for each town! Now my question is, do I have to live in the town my amulet's for, or can I be pickier than that?
no subject
Thanks, kiddo, I sure look forward to being on the air again.
