[ Alma's... actually been here for a while. Read the message. Temporarily holed up in the community homes while she got her bearings. The cities, with the exception of Fayren, all seem to have technology beyond her home, but it's not completely foreign at least. But perhaps the most surprising thing is Everglade. There are so many changelings out there and not a fairy in sight! Surely some of those little buggers had to be responsible for the state of things in Everglade.

So now that she actually remembered to be social, Alma decides to actually mess with her communication device and open it up for a general broadcast. ]

This thing works, right? Erhem, hello everyone. My name's Alma. I have a question or two that doesn't actually revolve around how we got here.

Namely how do the supernatural work here? I haven't seen a single fairy in Everglade, and that's the place with all the spooks. Where I come from, normally they're much more twisted than that.

[ You'll likely see Alma touring a shop and getting a more detailed lay of the land. She won't start a fight with supernatural creature, but she'll certainly finish anything that attempts to attack her... or any innocent passerby whether they're human or not. ]

[A full day of pickpocketing and still not a lot, but Kii was practicing. They'd be good one day, this was the one thing that kept their interest up! They stopped by this shop for anything interesting when they spotted Alma.

She looked so familiar..so familiar, that Kii snarled behind her and took her arm]

What do you think you're doing here?

[ Alma first noticed the presence of Kii when she stopped by this particular store, but at the moment paid them no mind. But only after seeing them here more than once did she grow concerned. However, she didn't expect them to bridge the gap and grab her hand.

Alarmed, she jerked her hand back to face them. ]

Me? I'm just a visitor! What do you want?

[This woman had normal eyes, not the eyes that Kii knew when she faced them. Their shoulders jolted up from shock. They were so sure..!]

A visitor? From what world? Besides, humans shouldn't be here.

[Says the ex demon now human cough]

Ugghhh..I can't believe I touched a human, god dammit!

[The red head acted like they had touched the gum under the desk]

Hello Alma--lovely name--, and welcome.

Heh, would I could give a more comprehensive answer, but the supernatural here is anything but consistent. I've found it's all a syncretic mess; if you've any questions about this or that aspect, you'll have to settle for something particular.

While I'm very familiar with that kind of fairy--the naughty ones--the only ones I've met personally insist they aren't.

My "world", I suppose, is called Muan.

Last time I checked I don't have cooties. Are you twelve or something?

I'm finding that to be the truth when I realize that the people here don't just come from a parallel world, but several.

It's a headache I'm trying not to get too wrapped up around.

Fairies are meant to be spooky?

[That had nothing to do with the question, but from stories she read she didn't think they were meant to be...]

[Where people come from is a mystery he feels is getting near all the time, but as Alma said, they were keeping from ultimate questions of origin like that.]

Wise tac. Was that something you kept up with before? Cataloging such things?

Somewhat, yes. It was a necessity of my job. Monsters plague humans, often manipulated by the fey. Knowing their patterns, and the difference between a monster who's actually malicious versus one who is a hapless puppet, makes all the difference in saving lives.

I don't know how the situation is around this place in general though. It's just that Everglade feels so familiar to home.

The ones I know at home are, anyway. They like spiriting people away and turning them into monsters.

...there's apparently a lot of reasons why, but the ones I know of today aren't so thoughtful.

Ah, they were schemers, I see, and discernment was key.

[There's a slight wince about Everglade being familiar. Tough break. But hey, that could be a positive...]

In that case, you may be able to assist me. What was this job, exactly? Did it have any methods for dispelling the undead? Particularly the ethereal variety.

I’m a hunter. I hunt monsters… including the human ones.

[ Alma’s voice was heavy. She brokered no madness or malice on that last part. ]

But especially fey most of all.

I haven’t fought very many ghosts yet, but the one or two I’ve come across that didn’t go peacefully were no more resistant to magic.

[Ted doesn't have the fortune to meet very many mad people. Or at least ones who don't have the craftiness to hide it.]

So that's your method? Magic? How so? What's the weapon employed, I mean.

I use all kinds of offensive magic, but I suppose my main weapon is being able to conjure blue string and use it like a whip. Or rope.

It's more effective than it might look.

Aheh, huh...

[Interesting way to phrase it. Wouldn't that be "more effective than it seems"? Does that mean it looks pathetic but isn't? And a whip, of all weapons? That doesn't seem like the most painless way to take a monster out. There's a slight hint of nerves in Ted's voice.]

I'll have to take your word for it. Are you available for consultation, perhaps? Just in case I run into something monstrous after the negative meaning.

[Consult, of course, and never "join". Men ought to do dangerous things.]

Consultation? I suppose.

[ There's something about the way he says it that bothers her though, and she can't put a finger on it. ]

Glad to hear it. And you will, I hope, rely upon me to help in any endeavors should violence be a possibility.

[It's worded like a request, but mostly a sure thing. And just to hammer home that he's not a newb.]

Oh, speaking of fairies, if you ever go very deep into the Fayren caves, watch out for "granite fairies". They harbor a xenophobic grudge, you see, and like to petrify any that go into their domain, especially if they're after precious gems. Keep your voice down, lest you cause a cave-in too.

Hopefully we exterminated them all, but better safe than sorry, eh?

Ah, so the fey reside in Fayren. What an apt name.

[ Was it intentional? Alma hadn't been here long so she had no idea. ]

Very well, I will keep that in mind.

Oh, that sounds really scary.

Yeah, I imagine it is. Fortunately I can take them on before they can get away with things like that.

[ Alma crossed her arms. ]

But it seems like the fey in Fayren seem at least... well, more behaved than the ones in my homeland, so maybe it's not a cause for concern? But I'm going to remain vigilant regardless.

I wouldn't be surprised if you did. But I find if they were one thing in one world, they can be completely different in another.

Like I met a group of ruffians in my world and they all had such wonderful dreams, but here some ruffians are just that...but I like to try and find that softer side of them.

I see. That's... interesting to note.

[ And with that Alma seems to... sag slightly. Without a doubt that does mean she's in another world. On the one hand that's amazing, and on the other that fills her with a sort of dread that tells her she's far away from home. ]

I think I'm reeeeaaalllly going to have to get used to this.

I know it is a lot to take in. But I can always help with that should you need it.

[Because she understands suddenly winding up in a whole new world and having to slowly adapt to it. She figured that she could help others with that.]
