[At first, Uai thought about ignoring the holiday. He had yet to come to terms with his situation back home, especially in how it related to his being a father. The last he had seen, his ex had found a new father for their kids. Uai was pretty certain that Sakura and Chika were celebrating with their new father, and had likely chosen not to think about the father that abandoned them. 

Fair. He should be glad. He could rest in peace now, without worrying about the girls. But instead of peace, Uai only found himself extra anxious and miserable. Not that anyone would likely be able to tell: He's smiling on the network that afternoon, trying to play the part of "dad who is totally fine with this."]

I'm not the only father here, right? My girls aren't in Genessia, but I can't have a proper Father's Day without bragging about them.

Who has five minutes and wants to see some pictures of my daughters?

[He grins, masking his misery with adoration for his kids.]

[Well, sort of. The most that Uai's magic allows him to create are basically holograms, which are a fuzzy as his memories. He hasn't physically seen his two girls in decades... But he manages to show an image of a timid, but smiling, blonde child and white haired girl, who sports Uai's hair colour.]

Chika and Sakura are their names.

[Uai manages to make something akin to a hologram appear, representing his lookalike daughter. Small, no more than five, with a dazed and hard to read expression.]

My girls found me, and I couldn't be more blessed.

Beautiful. She has your eyes. You must miss her.

[he reaches in his coat pocket and pulls out a wallet, showing a photo of a young woman]

This is my granddaughter, Susan. [A faint smile] I haven't seen her in ... a very long time.

Aw, how cute. They look adorable.

[She smiled happily, they did come across as cute to her and even though they were pictures.]

You must have really cherished them.

[And he really misses them.]

They would have loved it here. Chika was trying to become an artist, and Sakura loved singing.

Susan, huh? She has wisdom in her eyes.

[He can feel a pang of sympathy for him.]


I haven't seen my girls in ages either. Sometimes I worry that my memories of them are becoming lazy and faded... I wonder if they remember me anymore either. [Uai's insecurities slip,] Their mother found them a new father.

An artist. That sounds like a wonderful dream and the other must have been really good at singing.

[She wasn't sure if talking about them would be a bad thing, but she figured at the same time it might be nice.]

Maybe, someday they might find a way here.

[but he liked to think she'd grown into that wisdom and it had blossomed when she hadn't been wilting under his shadow. Though pain followed as pain always did]

I'm sure they remember. Somewhere. You never really forget someone who had meaning for you. Even as a child.

... I can only hope, then. I pray my girls can grow as wonderfully as yours.

[He says that, but it's difficult. Normally, Uai might brush his thoughts aside for a stranger... But a fellow (grand)father might understand. Maybe he can even make sense of Uai's feelings.]

Would it be better if they did forget? Their father left them. I think I resented my parents for leaving me. I don't want my girls to grow up with resentment in their hearts like I did.
