006: A Midboss Returns [Video]

[It had been some time since Midboss had addressed the whole of Genessia like this. If he planned to stand for election as Guardian, he naturally needed to make everyone who hadn't had the 'pleasure' of witnessing his ego beauty firsthand got to see it. Whether or not this would help his case was anyone's guess, but he had appearances to keep up after all.

Mostly, though, he wanted to make sure everyone - Lucifer included - knew he was not intimidated, and firmly back on his feet.

That aside, he'd heard rumour that others from the Netherworlds were here. What better than an obnoxious greeting to lure them out?]

Hmhmhm… It would appear that there are a number of people here who have yet to witness my beautiful visage! A certain tragedy which simply must be amended!

My name is Vyers, although I am known within the Netherworld as the Dark Adonis, a title that truly reflects my exquisite power. As may be apparent, I am a demon, like a number of others here.

[Midboss paused. He needed to recover his fighting prowess as soon as he could, and although he was sure that even without his wings he could display an impressive amount of power, he wanted to test that. Discovering limitations during a serious battle would be too reckless.]

If there are those who are not stunned into silence by my mere presence, I am curious to see what powers those from other worlds possess. Would anyone be willing to engage in a sparring match with moi?

[Action, Locked to Laharl. Backdated to Sept 10th.]

[Midboss paying his tithe of pudding cups without a fuss was something of a rarity. But strangely enough, Laharl may find three pudding cups left in the fridge for him. Stranger still, a note was attached.

The note read as follows: ]

I could not help but notice the message Weiss left yesterday. You should consider yourself lucky I am so noble that I would offer my rival advice.

Keep in mind that Lucifer may rival Baal himself in strength. His magic is impressive, both through his blade and at range, as is his swordsmanship. Blocking or evading that pronged sword he calls upon may be wise. Likewise, his gloves can form spikes which are a nuisance if he gets too close.

Although he is rather slow in battle, he can regenerate after being struck, regardless of what force was used against him. He can transport himself around a battlefield in the same manner as the Seraph.

He could not completely evade me and could not heal himself whilst focused on an attack. That may be your wisest point of weakness.

[Action, Locked to Flonne. Backdated to Sept 14th.]

[After the Dating Auction fiasco, Midboss really felt that he should explain to Flonne why he would be unable to pay his rent this month. And so, Midboss sheepishly went to knock on her door. Hopefully he could explain this...]

[Video, Locked to Terra. Backdated to Sept 22nd.]

Terra...I hope you are faring a little better. If you felt up to it, perhaps we could discuss our business plans? I think focusing on getting this project off the ground may help.

Ted shuddered. "You really should've been more careful with your...heredity. Demon? Why, now I cannot help but want your blood!" Ted smiled.

"I'd be glad to spar with you, certainly. We have something to discuss besides, don't we?"

Were those the telltale signs? Ted could've sworn it was possession, hatred of holy things, and an affinity for latin.

"Ah, a more poignant place you could not have picked. I'll meet you there."

And so Ted went, wearing a chain mail tunic and wielding his trusty swordstick. His bag was at the side. Excitement and fear roiled in him; so this was where he was to meet his first opponent; in more ways than one.

When Vyers arrived, he'd find the flooring of the arena a bit different. Not sand nor stone, instead the floor was covered with a blue, softer material often found in gyms and dojos. Much as Ted enjoyed (or thought he would) a spar, he didn't want someone to slip and split their head.

Ted thought he'd begin with a boast. Taking a moment to look around at everything, he began: "So, this is what I'll be presiding over."

He saw Vyers swagger inside, not seeming to wear armor of any kind. Perhaps he was a blacksmith, or another trade that involved hot work.

"Hah!" Nothing would get past this one, Ted thought. "I dare say they will." Ted had wanted to discuss that very thing, but decided he had better wait until afterwards. Ted walked to the center of the room, unsheathed his blade from his stick, and made a motion to cross swords. "What do the pugilists say...ah, yes. 'let's have a clean fight.' But mercifully; it's my first time."

Ted was unnerved, at that. It didn't feel right at all, attacking someone unarmed. Then again, he was a demon. What he'd read was sparse on details, but they probably had some way to defend themselves. Vyers obviously had no qualms with the arrangement.

"All right. Have at you!" And so, Ted led in with a thrust. As he pressed the attack, it would become clear to anyone with experience that Ted had very little, in fighting or in swordplay. All that guided his hand were the instincts every boy had when they first discovered the joy of sticks and swinging them.

The kick connected, nearly sending Ted to the floor. He barely held his balance, and rubbed at his back. It smart terribly. Still, the pain was lessened by how much fun he was having. Finally, some real roughhousing. It had been too long.

Ted, though not the sharpest crayon in the box, got the strong impression that he was hopelessly outmatched. Agh, that didn't matter. Whatever the odds, the important thing was to continue, he resolved. And to that resolve, another: he swore he would get at least one, clean hit on the demon, however many he had to endure in return.

So, towards that end, he redoubled his efforts. Attacking twice as fast without regard for his own defenses. All for the pleasure of making Vyers wince as he had.

[Hey look, its a little demon. This demon might not be one that Vyers would be able to recognize, but the connection between the two would likely become apparently quickly. Her eyes, the ones located where a human's would be at least, narrow as her youthful face appears upon the screen.]

So, do you think that you're strong?

[She doesn't sound like she's trying to be mocking, she is genuinely curious.]

As a final boss, Desco must be able to defeat the strong! But you don't look like you're a hero, so we can't have an exciting, dramatic battle to the death.

One, two fists to the midsection, and more forcefully than Ted expected. Thank goodness he was armored, though that didn't prevent his first knockdown. "Aaagh," Ted groaned, as he wrested himself back up.

So, that didn't work. For all his fun fury, Ted was found fruitless. Perhaps finesse was more fitting?

Ah, guile. Yes, that could work. Ted tried to remember what he had read in "101 swordplay techniques and tricks." What was it called...a feint, yes!

Okay. Ted would go in more cautiously, throwing out a few noncommital lunges. Once he'd built up a pattern, he'd then swipe with all his might. And if that didn't work, then at least he'd get Vyers to focus on his blade entirely. Truly, he'd never see his boot rising up to meet his bare chest. A flawless plan, surely.

Ted, regretfully hadn't studied the book very carefully, though the pictures were admirable. Not that it would've mattered.

When he saw that he had achieved even a fraction of surprise in his opponent, his blood ran hot and his grin widened. He took great pleasure in making him flinch, and was all too eager to capitalize on whatever small advantage he had gained.

And so, taking advantage of the distance created by the jump, Ted ran a bit, then leapt into a dropkick. If one foot had a measure of success, why not two?

Ted had, to put it mildly, overextended, and even a kick badly aimed still struck true on Ted's thigh. His momentum shifted, he was grounded a second time on his hip. Thank goodness for the padding.

Despite that failure, Ted was laughing a good deal. Here he was, sparring a demon with a french accent, who used gymnastics to defeat a nominal sword fighter in the middle of a pro wrestling move. It was so idiotically sublime.

"Ahaha, haaa...I'm sorry, this must be the stupidest duel you've ever had." He stood up, still exhaling the last of his comedy.

Egotism isn't really becoming you know, Vyers. Especially running for a political position.

[But he's laughing so he is clearly not bothered at all.]

As I seem to be immune to being stunned by your presence, I'd be happy to spar with you...though to be honest, I'm not particularly good at hand to hand combat.

[Sorry. You were saying? Luke had been feeling very trusting of Vyers...until the other had mentioned he was a demon. That sort of stuff is scary. And though Luke is trying to look brave, it's pretty much a failure.]

Mr. Vyers...I d-didn't know you were a demon...

[Claiming to be the strongest demon isn't exactly a rarity. Desco isn't about to just accept that as a fact. Claiming to the most beautiful is a bit different, though. Her big sister wasn't a demon (as far as the two of them were concerned) so Vyers doesn't automatically lose to Fuka in that category.]

Of course!

[The girl coughs into one red-scaled hand, and then leans forward, the tentacles on her back making an audible snapping sound as if she were doing her best to scare her own video device. When she speaks again, she seems to be doing her best to make her voice sound deeper.]

I am fear! I am despair! I am calamity! I am doom! I am the one who shall sink the world into blazing chaos. I am the final weapon. I am Descoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

[There's a moment's silence, and she reverts to the childish voice she was using moments before.]

What netherworld are you from to call yourself the strongest? Desco was training in Hades with Mr. Valzy to become the most powerful final boss in the universe!
