[Nearly two weeks since the incident on Halloween, and Conan had spent his time attempting to occupy himself while avoiding certain questions from Kid and Dairine. He would have been quite happy to keep the incident in his memories and nightmares, where it belonged.

He certainly did not want to explain or answer any of the questions he was sure they had.

So today he was out on his skateboard exploring Genessia and Attleton. Among other things, this last incident spurred his decision that it was long past time to move out of the children's home. And long past time to explore what other housing options there were.]

[Too bad for Conan, a certain Phantom Thief had been keeping an eye on him.

That hadn't been the first time he stared down a gun because of the mini detective and he was certain it wouldn't be the last either. Not if their track record held true, after all. And honestly, while KID wouldn't begrudge Kudo his secrets, he liked to know what he was facing. Especially when said ghost had looked so much like Snake.

If Kudo was involved with the same people he was, then he wanted to know it, dammit.

He watched the boy pass him on the skateboard, hat pulled low to hide his eyes. If there was one thing KID was good at, it was hiding in a crowd.]

You should be careful with that, kid, otherwise you might run someone over.

Don't worry! I'm being careful.

[Conan drops his foot off the skateboard to push off again. This definitely was not a time he wanted to spend lingering with strangers. Not when he was fully aware of Kid's disguise abilities. ]

[KID pushes away from the wall, tsking softly.]

Careful enough that you have goons pointing guns at you?

[Oh great, there he was. Conan drops any attempts at childishness.]

It wasn't the first time, and it won't be the last. What does it matter to you?

[Did you honestly think you were going to be able to hide forever, Tantei-kun? Really.]

Why wouldn't it matter to me? Or have you forgotten about the train?

[Hiding had worked for the last year. What was one more person to hide from? ]

I told you already. After the train, we're even.

Unfortunately, that's not how these things work, Tantei-kun.

This is my business. I am telling you that you do not want to get involved in this.

[He already knew too much for Conan's comfort. ]

[KID's voice, when he speaks, is low and annoyed.]

It's a bit too late for that, isn't it, Meitantei?

If you stop now, you're still far enough away to stay out of it.

[Unfortunately for Conan, Dairine wasn't the type to let these types of events go. Especially when they left her with more questions than answers.

She was also quite experienced in hunting Conan down when she wanted said answers. It helped that she knew lots of his usual haunts, but today he seemed to be busy doing something else. Eventually she spots him near one of the apartments in Genessia city and waves towards him.]

Conan!!

[She approaches casually, as if nothing were up.]

[So much for trying to avoid certain people. Conan cringes as he hears her voice. He turns to face her as he tries to figure out a way to avoid this conversation.]

Hello, Dairine.

[Good luck avoiding it. Dairine will start off easy on him... for now.]

What've you been doing?

Exploring some the apartment areas.

Oh. Finally getting tired of the children's home?

[Dairine can relate. Even if it was nice to have a free place to stay, it could get rather cramped. Plus it was a bit irritating being labelled as children.]

Just a bit.

[Most importantly, it wasn't secure in the least. Something Conan had been far too aware of recently.]

[Dairine can take a wild guess at his reasoning.]

That's not surprising. I've been feeling the same.

[Suddenly Dairine grins and snaps her fingers.]

I have an idea! How about we rent a place together?

[KID growls slightly under his head, turning his head slightly as if glancing behind him.

He's trying to figure out exactly how much the little detective knows and how to find out without tipping him off about his own brand of stalkers with bad fashion sense.]

Tantei-kun, Phantom Thief I might be, but I'm still a criminal, am I not?

[Come on, Kudo, figure out the hint would you?]

[Conan was determined to be stubborn about this. If he knows what Kid is getting at, he refuses to let it show.]

Is there a reason you're pointing out the obvious?

[Criminal he might be, but he had never wanted him dead. ]

[Conan sputters in surprise once again. How was it that Dairine was always able to spring these things on him?]

You really think we'll be able to survive each other?

[YES. BECAUSE YOU'RE BEING A STUBBORN MORON.

All right, fine. He'll just hit you with it like a soccer ball.]

Do you honestly think I haven't come across someone that lacking in fashion sense before?

[And honestly, that's why he's worried.]

[And that gets a reaction. Conan pales to an unhealthy degree, and immediately demands details.]

Where? When? Do they know you saw them?

[Dairine shrugs.]

If the place is decently sized, I'm sure we'll manage. You survived years of me breaking into your room after all.

There's no need to talk about that like it's an accomplishment.

[KID's eyes focus on Conan for a moment, before he glances over to the side.]

Not here. And I don't want to have this conversation unless you're going to be honest with me [and here he drops his voice.], Kudo.
