 [A very familiar boy is peering into the video feed. From the irritated expression on his face to the cowlick on the back of his head, there is nothing to show there is anything at all different about Conan today.

Apart, that is, from the fact that this is the very first time in all the months he has lived in Genessia that he has ever been seen without his glasses.

He glares into the camera with a very put out expression.]

Oi! Can someone tell Mom to come out and stop with the prank already?  

And where's Dad? Is he hiding from his publishers again?

[OOC: For the age change event, Conan's mind has reverted to match his age. Meet six-year-old Shinichi Kudo, who thinks he's just been kidnapped as a prank by his parents for a family vacation.  Again.]

[Whether he's realized it yet or not, young Shinichi is not the only person in the apartment. Not long after he asks his questions, there's the sound of rustling sheets from the other bedroom. If he tries to open the door, he'll find it locked, thankfully.

A few minutes later, the door unlocks and Dairine steps out of the room fully clothed.]

'Morning.

[She mumbles towards him, still a little sleepy. But then she notices the lack of glasses, and suddenly Dairine is far more alert. Conan rarely leaves his room without his glasses. There's only been a few times she's seen him walk around without them. Most involved him being... taller.

Oh, CRUD.]

Um... [How to check the situation without unduly alarming or confusing him? Dairine settles on a simple question.] Is Conan around?

[Shinichi gives the older girl a suspicious look.]

Who are you?

[WELL, that answers her question. Powers, she hasn't even had breakfast yet. She is not prepared for this. But Dairine's dealt with young Shinichi before. She can at least improvise.]

I'm Dairine Callahan. You must be Shinichi, right?

How do you know my name? Did Mom hire you to help with her prank?

[So much cynicism. ]

[Oh, right. His mom. Dairine thinks back on what Conan told her about his mother. While she dislikes lying, she figures a white lie would be better than the truth in this situation. He'd never believe the truth anyway.]

Not quite. Actually I'm here as your babysitter.

[Predictably, he takes offense at the idea.]

That's dumb. I don't need a babysitter. And why didn't she just call the professor?

[Dairine can't say she's surprised. She would have felt the same at his age.]

Tell that to your mother when she gets back from her trip.

She tried. Apparently he has an important convention he has to speak at, so he couldn't make it.

[A much younger Aurora, at least five or six herself appeared on the feed. Her blue eyes looking toward the floor and her fingers playing with the strands of blond hair.]

[Not like they had ever spoken before but he was wondering if he should be the barrier of bad news or not. Either way he would feel bad about it.]

As much as I hate to say this but... Your mom and dad probably had nothing to do with any of this.

Yeah. They left together. Said something about "needing inspiration for his next novel."

[Boy, she hopes that excuse sounds like something his father would say.]

They should be back in a week.

[Have someone who looks a little like you, Shinichi, blinking at his own device. All he had been doing it was playing around with it until it turned on.

It didn't even dawn on him to be nervous about his parents missing, because he knows that his parents will be back. Besides, all this stuff is just so interesting to look at it.]

Your mom plays pranks?

Magic? [Shinichi makes a face at the idea.] That's boring. Mom makes me go to shows a lot, and it's all way too easy to figure out.

[It probably said a lot about Shinichi's childhood that that sounded like a perfectly plausible excuse to him. ]

Can't I just go home then? Playing with Ran will be a lot more fun than being stuck on vacation.

[Shinichi was six years old, smarter than almost everyone he knew, and he knew it. He had never developed much patience for having to explain things. ]

Sorry, but your home is pretty far away. And I don't have a car.

No way! They're amazing! Using just logic and observation they can solve any problem.

I bet Dad could! The police are always asking him to solve cases for them, even though he's really a writer.
