Thievery Rampant in Genessia City

What started out as several hits on local fruit vendors has rapidly expanded into a growing rash of petty theft. The culprit? FURRIES. Furries are typically men and women who think they look good wearing chopped off bits of animals, and they run around making disturbing grunting noises at small children and trees. The biggest culprit appears to be a young surfer male with a monkey tail. "He stole my remote control!" one citizen complained. "I went to the window because I heard a bunch of shouting, and when I came back to the couch, the remote control was nowhere to be seen." "I'm pretty sure he stole a couple of socks, because I can't find those anywhere," a disgruntled housewife complained. Citizens are warned to check and inventory all of their belongings as well as buy surplus cleaning products, because if the monkey thief isn't stealing your stuff, he may be satisfied with flinging crap at your window.

Kidnapping Culprit Makes Ransom Demand

Nefarious and butt ugly villain Skeletor has announced to the world that he has still kidnapped the guardian of Fayren. He has stated that he is willing to exchange the Guardian for three charms. Speculation is on the rise as to just what someone like him could possibly want to wish for. 77% of those who were polled believe that the thing he wants most is a date for Valentine's Day, but it's a little late for that, don't you think? In the absence of Fayren's Guardian, mutton prices are on the rise.

Sun is pretty amused when he reads the first part of the article about the fruit thefts, he takes a bite of one of those pilfered fruits. Then he doesn’t know what to make of the term furries. Then he reads on about it. Wearing chopped off bits of animals and making disturbing grunting noises at small children and trees?! He nearly chokes on some of the apple as he swallows it. He coughs a little before speaking.

“I- WHAT?! I would never! This tail that I have is real!” What kind of person did they take him for?! Then he reads onto the complaints. “I didn’t steal anyone’s socks or remote! Why would I even do that?! They probably lost them!” Fruit was food. He could eat it. He couldn’t do that with something like a remote or socks. He couldn’t even sell those! Not to mention it would be incredibly weird to steal those kind of things from people.

“Okay. Real funny. Whoever the jerk is that wrote this has their facts all wrong!” The only thing he is guilty of is stealing the fruit, nothing else.

It's one of the increasingly rare occasions when the newspaper isn't being delivered to the RWBY apartment through the window. So Blake's actually in a fairly decent mood when she picks it up.

She sighs a little bit when she reads about the fruit thefts, she had warned him about--

wait. Furries?

Chopped off animal parts?!

Disturbing grunting noises?!

By the time she gets to the end of the article, she's practically strangling the stupid newspaper. Finally, with a sound of disgust she crumples it up and tosses it into the trash can in the kitchen before turning and storming out of the apartment like a thundercloud, even slamming the door behind her.

She... she's probably fine.

Ruby was laying on the ground giving a Beo the stomach rub of a lifetime when Blake picked up the newspaper, So she saw the entire thing. By the time Blake has finished reading the paper and storming out of the room Ruby has completely stopped what she was doing and is now just laying there in stunned silence. She waits a little before she gets up to her feet and quickly makes a dash toward the door. What the heck was that about?

[sometime in the afternoon, Sun should receive a text that reads:]

I can't say that I didn't see this article coming. It was only a matter of time.

They took things way too far in that article, Weiss.

She's already a good distance down the hallway by the time Ruby gets to the door. She doesn't even have a destination in mind and it isn't like she was planning anything drastic. It wasn't like the writers for the newspaper weren't jerks to everyone they talked about, but everyone didn't have to deal with that kind of talk their entire lives.

She just needs to get out for awhile.

Ruby wasn't particularly worried about Blake doing anything drastic. She was confident that there had been enough drastic situations over the last couple months to tide them over for a good long while. Not only that, but they still had people like M, Skeletor and Wily causing trouble without them going out and causing any themselves.

She was just concerned about her friend, that's all and she was following along to try and figure out what got Blake so upset and do her best to make things better.

Unfortunately she also has no idea what to say. So for the moment she'll quietly give chase.

Blake at least had the presence of mind to go out with Gambol Shroud. She may be angry right now, but she knows that they still have enemies out there.

She'll storm around for a little while once she hits the streets, until the worst of the anger fades away. Finally, after a little while of that she stops and sighs.

"I know you're there, Ruby."

Ruby had kept her distance while Blake did her thing, her very angry thing. She freezes when Blake finally speaks up.

"Y-you do? I mean, yeah! of course you do! I wasn't really hiding or anything!" Oh no... What does she do now? She hadn't thought this far ahead.

"Uhmmm... Do you want to find a place to sit down?"

Not that it was any fault of Ruby's. Blake was a hard person to sneak up on when you were trying to be sneaky, as it was she'd heard Ruby following since she'd left the apartment.

"Not really." She was calmer, true, but she was still simmering away angrily. "I'm fine, really, you should go back. Don't worry about it."

Ruby can tell she's still upset, and that just gets Ruby all the more concerned for her friend. It took quite a bit to get under Blake's skin, what ever she read must have been just awful.

"Alright... Well, I didn't really have anything going on back there. So how about I just stick around with you for a little while? You can do what ever you have to do, I'll just kind of be around while you do it."

She considers that for a second, before just sighing again. Even if Ruby just hung around with her for awhile it would just mean the obvious question would be hanging in the air the whole time, making things awkward.

She looks around for a second before walking over and grabbing a paper from a stack in front of a store.

"Here." She hands it over to Ruby. It wasn't as if she wouldn't see it eventually. "Just read the first article."

I will attempt to clarify who and what Faunus are for the next issue of the newspaper. However, you really should curb your habit. You are but one of three Faunus in this place - one of which being a fairly high ranking member of the White Fang.

I caution you on how the public at large sees your actions, and how it will reflect on others.

Blake, I intend to contact this paper and dispel these malicious rumors as best I can. However, it might lend some weight to it if the reporter I speak with - if I can secure an interview - could see that your ears are very much attached.

If you are uncomfortable with the situation, simply say so and that will be the end of it.

[Well, she's calmed down quite a bit by the time the call comes in, but she can't say she's much happier about it. The suggestion... well, to say the idea makes her uncomfortable is certainly accurate.]

With respect, Professor, I'm not sure what good that would do. If anything, it would just lead them to invent new ones.

[There's a good amount of bitterness in her voice. She's already convinced she knows what's coming next.]

I understand. And while I can certainly appreciate the feeling of futility that a single editorial may be met with, I cannot simply sit idly by while my students are slandered and ignorant prejudices are brought even here.

[And that's to say nothing of doing damage control for what Adam might take as a personal insult...]
