[A year can mean a lot of big changes for a guy. For some, it's moving to another city. For others, just a new job can bring a whole slew of new experiences. For Nathan Drummond, it was finding out you were descended from a long line of pretty special people, then getting shipped off from your home in New York City to live in the Ozark mountains of northern Arkansas to learn how to not lose control of the powers you began instinctively pulling in, all after finding out there was a while secret war going on between opposing forces you didn't even know existed, really.

It had been a long year. Then there was going to bed only to wake up...in a metal test tube in a secret cave under a city, and that was apparently normal. After listening to the hologram, pocketing the cash, and stringing the necklace around his neck, all he could assume was that he was kidnapped by aliens. He was making his way down to the welcome center office indicated on the map and wondering exactly what to do, and why aliens would want to watch humans live in a city.

Oh...well, that was an unpleasant thought. Maybe it was a zoo. A weird, trans-dimensional zoo.

[The video clicks on a little while later, and Nathan runs a hand back through his hair while he waits for the feed to say it's ready for transmission. Then, he clears his throat.]

Hello...Genessia? Did I say that right? Does it even really matter? [He shakes his head slightly. He's pretty sure it doesn't.] I'm getting some really weird "Zoo" vibes from this place, but I guess this is me, saying hello. My name is Nathan, I just got off the boat...or the...steel coffin of doom, whatever you want to call it. I know it's late, but I don't see myself wanting to sleep anytime soon, anyway, so...anybody know where the nearest Starbucks is? Barring that, the nearest coffee shop would work.

(Marie stares into her device with a puzzled expression. He seemed to be very "up and at them" and she has to take a moment to figure out what part to address first.

If he gets a good glance, he would be able to tell that she had been very near to falling asleep, but not quite there. His video being the thing that completely snapped her out of her daze.

Might as well as address the easy one first.)

Starbucks? There's...cafes but none of those. The Cat's Eye is one that is good.

Zoo? This place isn't a zoo...

(She frowns.) I mean, we can't leave just like that... (She snaps her fingers for effect.) but, really this place is far from a zoo. It's...you know, I'm not really sure what's a good way to describe what this place is.

[Levy is at home with a book in her lap when she sees the device by her side light up. She takes it and smiles at the man on the screen.]

If you're by the bay there is a coffee shop a few blocks away.

[It might still be open?]

I can send you directions or I can just come and show you. My house is close to the bay area.

[Except behind her looks like a library.]

[Ib has had to take extra shifts at the bar after being dead for a week. One week without getting paid is a nightmare considering she still has to feed little Ib. In her tired state she runs right into Nathan and then takes a few seconds to register that he's a person.]

Oh, funny running into you.

[Except she doesn't know him. She takes a step back and groans softly trying to force herself to wake up. She's trying to remember why she cares.]

[Sakura hears the name of the cats eye on the communicator and it wakes her up. She yawns slightly and looks at the screen.]

I can get you coffee if you need it.

[She still has keys.]

It could be a zoo. We're in domes. Does anyone know what's out there? We could be broadcast across the multiverse. No one really knows.

[He nods, though.]

I'm glad to hear there are cafes. At least the zoo has coffee. Thank you...uh...I didn't catch your name.

That's not necessary. This place looks like a grid, which is a lot like my hometown. I think I can figure it out.

I wouldn't turn down directions, though. [He smiles.] And thanks in advance.

[Nathan meets her eyes for a moment, stepping back himself.]

Uh...yeah, really funny. Do...I know you? [He shakes his head.] I'm pretty sure I'd remember you.

[Ib is to tired to deal with this.]

I'm going to take that as a compliment.

[Not that she can kill him anyway.]

Thanks? They might not be open this late.

[Except she texts him the address anyway.]

Also, I'm not sure if this is a Zoo but we have some theories similar to that. There is a place here where you can go home expect you never actually leave Genessia. They give you the memories of your home.

[She thinks it's the link back home but so far there is nothing.]

If this was a zoo, it would be ten times more entertaining.

[She was leaning back slightly against the seat. Where she was is not obvious since she was still working on a few things.]

[Hikari had to make a quick stop at the welcome centre in order to drop off some leaflets for her place in another city. After all one would never know what new arrivals might be interested. As she handed them into the front before looking over.]

Hello there, I assume you need help?

[Nathan looks immediately apologetic.]

...hey, did I wake you up? You...don't have to do that.

Uh...good? That's how I meant it.

[He frowns, though.]

...are you okay?

...what? [That's going to take a while to sink in.] You know what? I'm going to take a raincheck on that explanation if that's cool.

[Because I really really don't want to think about it.]

So...what can you tell me about this place besides being an exhibit?

"Entertaining" isn't what I'd call it. "Disturbing" is a good word. Let's go with that one.

[Upon entering the establishment, Nathan couldn't shake the feeling of stepping into a visitor's center, except this one also looked like an unemployment office, which was something else he was depressingly familiar with.

He looked over to Hikari when she addressed him.]

Uh...yeah. I guess. I'm pretty new around here. Is...this where you apply for housing? The brochure said something about that.

[He sounds unsure which almost makes Ib roll her eyes.]

I'm tired and I have to get to work.

[She works at a bar, her hours are weird.]

[Sakura shakes her head and stifles another yawn.]

It's alright...

[She rises from bed and for a few seconds Nathan is looking at the ceiling of this girls room. Sakura changes out of sight and then peeks back at the screen.]

Are you at the bay?

[She looks more awake now.]

[Levy’s grin falters, she can’t really blame him though he’s the first one who hasn’t immediately asked for more answers than she has.]

Well there are the basic things from the pamphlets, Attelton, Genessia, Nova City, Fayren and Everglade. I don’t know if it was added in the information but Everglade currently has a curfew because certain creatures have been given permission to hunt at night. It’s political and steps are being taken but you shouldn’t go there after dark. Fayren is having trouble as well; an unknown group is targeting wizards as well as the town so I’d be careful there as well. Attleton is a peaceful place except for the arena. [Levy still doesn’t understand why that’s in Attleton of all places btu she’s given up trying to understand that.] Genessia is the main city with all the other places branching off of it. I think it’s the most stable right now but… [She doesn’t know about the sky or anything like that.] Nova City is very clean, I don’t go there as often but there is more technology there.

Well, I haven't seen any little kids with chocolate covered faces rubbing their noses all over glass...or anything that you'd normally see at zoo.

Or anything that suggests we're really being watched...

(Intergalactic reality show, maybe? That might be more likely but Marie doesn't really think about this idea.

Deep down she is very "Calm down..." right now.)

Yeah, this place is kind of normal in some ways. Especially if you end up living in Attleton. Well, it depends on where you are from....some places might view what I think of as normal as strange or something like that.

I could come up with ten more things that is more disturbing than this, I can assure you. I guess you just don't know the truth meaning of that.

It is. This s where you find housing and work since the money new arrivals get can only afford a place for a couple of months.

[From what she remembered of when she first arrived anyway.]

Is there a certain city you wish you live at?

[Nathan nods. He understands that feeling pretty well.]

Well, don't let me hold you up. Sorry for getting in your way.

[He shakes his head.]

I was, but I started heading in the direction of that welcome center. No idea how much money this is, but I figure renting a small apartment's cheaper than a hotel.

[Okay, so, this is at least something he can wrap his brain around without freaking out about being transported to another world]

Wait, hang on. "Certain creatures"? "Curfew"? [He doesn't like the sound of that.] ...what did the wizards do to Fayren? [Which probably speaks volumes that her saying "wizards" doesn't have the knee-jerk reaction of "wizards are real"?]

...yeah, places with arenas are always peaceful. Just ask the Romans...

[He nods.] And Genessia's where I'm at now, right?
