[ ozpin has collected all the information he needs to feel relatively comfortable finally introducing himself. he knows there are enemies here, and he knows there could be more enemies to come. he knows the majority of his students have experienced quite a lot of trauma in recent weeks, and he knows that he seems to be the only actual adult here to deal with any of it.
worst of all, most of this is his fault, and ozpin seems to be delightfully absent for most of it.
so, after dwelling on that for a moment, the feed turns on to show ozpin in a chair, in a corner of a bookstore that seems to be mostly empty. his cane is leaning against the table and while he still looks somewhat tired and worn down, his eyes are bright and he has a warm smile in place. ozpin has always been horrendous at playing the game, especially when such things are at stake. perhaps peace has made him lazy -- or perhaps he just genuinely believes that everything will be overcome.
at any rate, his students (and the others here) need him to be the leader that he proclaimed to be before everything went to utter hell, and so when he speaks, ozpin sounds like a conversationalist, calm and at the ready. ]
Hello.
[ it's almost like today is a normal day, with yet another inspirational monologue from professor ozpin. ]
It seems that quite the collective of my students have taken root in this city, and transformed it into their own. [ weiss. ] I wish I could say that I could bring half of what they have to this place, but I'd rather not disappoint you all.
[ probably too late for that. ]
But as for introductions -- my name is Ozpin. I am the Headmaster of Beacon Academy, for those from Remnant who may not recognize me. [ which should be no one, but you can never be too sure. ] I've already spoken with several of my students, and it seems that our world has become rather popular in terms of new arrivals... but to the students I haven't yet had the opportunity to see, and the students that I don't have the pleasure of calling my own... I would very much like to speak with you. Privately.
[ the slightest hint of his teacher voice, but it's gone in an instant, and ozpin returns to his faint smile. he's not going to waste time concerning himself with roman torchwick or emerald or anyone else who happens to show up. they will come find him if they wish to speak more. ]
As for the rest of you, if you would indulge me with suggestions on where to locate a decent cup of coffee, I would be forever in your debt. In addition, I would also like to hear some of the positives of this place -- what do you like to do? What are your hobbies? Your work? You would be surprised how effective positivity can be in curing most problems.
{ ozpin inclines his head toward his cane (and the untouched cup), with a slightly knowing look. ]

I've had something of a rough week.
video; locked;
coffee is all over the place. everywhere. including the book he had actually been considering buying.
the longest, most long-suffering sigh.
this week has been the worst. ]
I am fine.
video; locked;
I'll be the judge of that. What are your coordinates?
video; locked;
though he adds: ]
It wasn't very good, anyway.
[ so there's no real loss, miss goodwitch. clearly. ]
video; locked;
[She switches off the video so that he's not like, made sick by the motion going on. But she does keep the audio on, because it's nifty.]
The book or the coffee?
audio; locked;
The book seemed decent, but the coffee wasn't anything special.
[ bluh bluh bluh ]
Some of the children here have pointed me in the direction of a cafe that's apparently popular, but I haven't had the opportunity to seek it out.
audio; locked;
[This isn't the kind of stuff she wants their enemies eavesdropping on. Not that they don't already know and control everything-- but still. Even the thought of running into that detestable woman makes her want to break things.]
audio; locked;
[ it's said with a bit more insistence, this time -- really, and truly. there is the slight noise of shuffling, though -- ozpin is getting up. ]
We can take a walk around the city. I doubt anyone will be eavesdropping, and those that would likely already know the fate of Beacon.
[ -- there, on beacon, is a slight pause in his calm and even tone. he hasn't really been able to focus on how much was lost, when the students have suffered so much more. but the school really and truly is gone, given glynda had acted like he was dead, much like everyone else had.
the reality of the situation is a bit jarring. ]
Cinder is not here.
audio; locked;
I have a hard time believing in your perfect human condition when you've disappeared to who knows where and the entire kingdom is-- [She inhales sharply, knowing her outburst was probably over the line. She tries to rein it in a tad. Breathe in. Breathe out.] I trust you, but I will worry less when I see you in front of me.
... At any rate, I wouldn't be surprised if some of her associates were here. We should still exercise caution.
audio; locked;
Some are.
[ it's said absently. he's lost in thought. ]
I've spoken to two. Neither seemed interested in killing me.
[ which is fascinating, to him, considering he's exhausted and mending and walks with a limp, but whatever. ]
audio --> action; locked;
I'm nearing your location. [And with that, she ends the call and begins looking around. Is he inside? Is he waiting at the door? She won't know until she gets there.]
action;
[ there's a slight spark of amusement in his tone back, and ozpin is indeed waiting at the door -- or, rather, just outside of it, resting against the outside wall of the cafe in question. miraculously, with a lack of coffee staining his clothes.
he might be a mess, but he has ninja reflexes. sometimes. at least it wound up on the table and the books instead.
but when he spots glynda, he immediately pushes himself up a bit straighter -- though he's slower than usual, tired, recovering, but nothing too terrible. and he even offers her a smile, as he steps forward. ]
As I said, fine.
[ she, on the other hand, looked even more exhausted than he did. ]
no subject
You should be in bed recovering.

[ for an astonishing thirty minutes ]
no subject
I'm alive.
[ it's said quietly, reassuring. ]
Fortunately for me, I am tougher than I look.
[ but only just ]
no subject
But these last few weeks have been so terrible. The loss of the school, of students' lives, of her partner, and the ever hovering question: what do we do now? She may have handled the brunt of the work in Beacon but in the end they were a team, and that team has been shattered. Like a few others.
She bites back the surge of conflicting emotions and doesn't entirely succeed, but she is trying. She keeps her head high no matter what.]
I'm glad you're safe, [she murmurs, and her voice almost doesn't quiver.]
no subject
safe' is probably the wrong word, ozpin is anything but safe. if his suspicions are correct, ozpin is going to be the opposite of safe for the foreseeable future. kept alive. forced to watch. trapped somewhere. he had told the students he was alive so easily, to ease their worries, to stop some of the tears -- but with glynda, and james, and qrow...
ozpin draws in a breath. ]
Well, you know me.
[ it's said quietly, and he reaches out with his free hand to gently squeeze her arm, steering her toward the street, to walk. ]
As always, you were right, and I was too slow for my own good. Peace has made me lazy.
[ his tone remains as calm and serene as ever, but there's the tiniest hint of teasing.
he'll be fine. ]
no subject
That's why she doesn't resist when he takes her arm and guides her. Gradually she's able to relax her hands, though now they long for something to hold onto. She ignores it.]
No. [She turns her head to look at something across the street.] You were always lazy.

[ with the barest shred of indignation, but it's barely there. he lets go of her arm once they're walking, slipping his hand into his pocket as the walk along, readjusting his grip on his cane. his leg hurts, and he feels a deep-seated ache throughout his body, but for the first time since arriving here, he feels like he's on solid ground.
alone, ozpin can do quite a lot. but with glynda, he has a partner in crime. and should cinder arrive, she would not stand a chance. that much he's certain of. ]
no subject
with a pang of guilt, he realizes he can't do the same for her. not yet. not when so much is unknown, or at stake. ]
Glynda.
[ it's said after a moment of silence, as they walk, his tone quiet ]
Ruby told me that I had been missing for at least a month.
[ is that true? ]
no subject
[There's no hesitation. She looks at him, and knows immediately he's going to ask about current events. She doesn't lie to him, not that she has any inclination to, but as quickly as she made eye contact before, it's-- gone. She stares forward, ever cautious, ever watchful.]
... Yes. We couldn't find-- [a body, she wants to say. He could've been vaporized from the inside out, but Cinder would've had to get a clear shot and that isn't something Ozpin could allow.] -- that is, we have reason to believe you were taken before the tower fell.
no subject
You are correct. -- or, at least, I think so.
[ his school is destroyed. the tower is gone. beacon academy is closed. ]
It's difficult to remember, exactly, what happened... I had her.
[ it's said with quiet frustration, as they stroll down the street. ]
But she broke through my shield, and I... well.
[ glynda knows ozpin's strengths and weaknesses like the back of her hand. he doesn't need to tell her what happened after that. ]
no subject
I know. [She isn't even going to chide him for taking on Cinder by himself. He's learned.] Qrow will find you. That's what he's good at. [Besides drinking himself into a stupor, but honestly, she can't blame anyone for turning to alcohol after all of that.
She pauses, gathers her thoughts.]
Buildings can be remade. Alliances can be reforged, and there will always be more huntsmen and huntresses desiring training. People are not so easily replaced.
[She gently touches his elbow as they walk.]
You're coming home.
no subject
but that doesn't sit well in his chest, and while he offers glynda a faint smile at the touch to his arm, it doesn't reach his eyes. ozpin is just one man -- and while it's true that he's irreplaceable, so is qrow. so are ruby, and jaune. so was pyrrha. he isn't any more or less important than anyone else, and if ozpin is correct...
cinder had said it. she was right, so arrogant. there is only one person that cinder could have meant, and that one person, if she has ozpin, could not be defeated by qrow. and ozpin can't say anything about her, not yet -- not until he's sure. he doesn't want anyone to panic, or worry needlessly. but isn't everyone already worrying needlessly? isn't secrecy what got them into this mess? ]
... I do not want anyone else dead on my behalf.
[ it's said carefully -- anticipating argument, but also firmly standing his ground.
if cinder murdered a teenage girl, salem would not hesitate at beheading qrow for sport. ]
no subject
This isn't about your personal responsibility or even mine. We've already given them-- [them, because she isn't entirely sure who else is involved]-- everything they want.
If we abandon you and you are eventually found as a casualty, think of the message that sends to the other schools. To the other nations. While it is true that no one is safe, we need to preserve what unity we have. We can't afford to lose the other kingdoms to the same discord that tore Vale apart.
no subject
[ quietly, absently -- ozpin is lost in his own thoughts, sorting out what he wants to say as he says it. ]
I know what I represent, to the other kingdoms. I know my own importance.
[ ozpin is the beacon of peace, quite literally. compassion, light. his students aren't raised to be soldiers, but raised to make compassionate decisions, to fight the grimm in order to save humanity. to preserve kindness, and peace. to eradicate anger, and war. ]
But I also know that my entire message would be lost if the people that I care about most sacrificed themselves to save me. I am not what is important in this fight, Glynda. The... individual that --
[ but ozpin stops himself, because he is saying too much -- distracted, scattered. ]
-- I have already had to listen to my students tell me that Pyrrha Nikos is dead, due to my own decisions, four times over. I cannot, and will not, have them tell it to me again, with a new name attached.
