[ The feed begins with a very familiar voice, that of one Weiss Schnee - or at least, the recording that plays for everyone at the exit of the Bay.

"Hello, my name is Weiss Schnee, heiress of the Schnee Dust Company from the world of Remnant and present CEO and founder of the Schnee Company Welcoming and--"

There's the sound of someone blowing a raspberry directly into the receiver, drowning out Weiss's voice.

The feed cuts to silence.

When the feed resumes there's still not much to identify who's behind it - just the sound of footsteps and whistling, an almost chipper tune that goes on for nearly a full minute, only briefly interrupted by a few electronic beeps and the sound of a vending machine dispensing something. The whistling continues for a while, accompanied still by footsteps and the distinct sound of a can of soda being cracked open. At last the whistling stops, there's a gulp... ]

Blegh.

[ A voice - just a snippet, but for some it might be enough to trigger certain memories of some awful happenings some time ago.

The sound of a soda can - still mostly full - being tossed to the ground, footsteps resuming. ]

All this time, and there still isn't a decent brand of cola? Someone has to get on that.

[ The voice, for those who recognize it, belongs to one Mercury Black. ]

So - how is everyone doing? I mean other than the great almighty Schnee, of course. Clearly she's having a blast with her power trip, but that's not really any surprise. Did I miss anything fun?

There's a whole lot of you lately, aren't there? All coming from the same world. Clearly whatever power is at the source of this place is really interested in you all.

Just try not to burn the place down with your squabbling, huh? One of your criminals has already shown up and sworn to raise hell and high water.

[ He takes a second to make note of that - an influx of people from Remnant? And if one of them's being described as an outright "criminal"... ]

I'm going to take a shot in the dark, here - Roman Torchwick? He's here?

[ well, it's not one of his favorites, but he's more ally than enemy. ]

That's the one. Shouldn't be surprised you know him, everyone from your world started losing their shit the moment he popped up.

[ Which meant they're still mostly good guys. Bummer. Then again if any of his allies are actually around they're probably laying low.

But Mercury don't do like that. He's already been outed as a bad guy here in the past, roughly a year ago - he's lucky that the first person to contact him doesn't seem to know it. ]

Oh, yeah. He's bad news. I'm terrified just to think of what could happen!

[ ... He doesn't sound terrified. ]

You don't sound scared. [He chuckles.] But I imagine you've all got your own way of handling things back home. What you do from here is up to you, whether or not you're one of that guy's friends. Just try not to screw up things for the people who aren't involved with your posse.

One of his friends? Ugh, I think I'd rather be boiled alive.

[ ... That much, at least, is not a lie. He works with him out of necessity - loyalty to his real boss - but he's nowhere near liking the man. ]

You seem kind of familiar with the folks from our world, though. Who've you dealt with?

Mostly acquaintances. A lot of the new ones, I haven't spoken with. The one they call Weiss- and you're not alone in a lot of people finding her distasteful- I only know through the hologram. There was one, black hair, gold eyes I spoke to, but she left. But considering all of your new buddies coming around, she might come back some day.

"Distasteful". That's a kind word for it.

[ Most of his choice words are probably beyond the appropriate rating of RWBY's target audience.

But "black hair, gold eyes"... there's two possibilities that come to mind. One's a certain girl with a black bow who he really couldn't care less about. The other is his boss - but if she's gone, it's kind of irrelevant anyway. ]

Oh, plenty of people have put it in harsher words than me. [He laughs.] Hell, around election time there was even an entire smear campaign aimed at her. Look that up, you'll probably get a kick out of it. She hasn't done me wrong personally though, so I can't muster the effort to find worse.

[ That actually does sound like something he'd like to look through later, once he's found a safe place to hole up. Maybe he'll get some material to use against her in the future. ]

Oh, give it time. Her annoying tendencies will find their way into your life sooner or later.

[Gale has to hold back a chuckle when he hears that raspberry over the receiver. He doesn't even know why he's that amused. He just is.]

Man, the Duchess sure is popular all the sudden. I'm startin' to think she's gonna have a fanclub at this rate.

So lemme guess, you another one that just showed up but are familiar with the place?

[ Another one who doesn't know him! Boy, Mercury's striking gold here. ]

Nailed it. I've been out for a spell, buuuuuut I still remember how things work around here, more or less. Queen Schnee's risen in the ranks since last time I was here, though.

Huh. You mean to tell me there was a time that she didn't have an iron fist on the place? Or d'ya mean the fact that she's Nova City's Guardian now?

[Despite the way he's talking, he's certainly got nothing against Weiss. He just likes making sassy comments about her. And anyone, really.]

Sure hope not, but if she does, you'll be the first to get to say 'Told you so'.

Make sure to tell her that Mercury Black called it.

She's been annoyingly influential since the last time I was here, but not "everyone has to deal with my voice the moment they get here" influential. But that's just the way Schnees are, stepping on people all the way to the top.

[ like he's one to talk about stepping on people ]

And here she's been serenading newbies ever since I showed up here. Can't... say her good intentioned message worked too well on me at the time.

[He just awkwardly coughs.]

There might have been a "prissy rich girl" comment thrown out there for her to hear.

I could think of a few words that rhyme with "rich" that you could use instead.

[Once again, Gale has to stifle his chuckles.]

Nah, I wouldn't say she's done or said anything to me to warrant that. Not my style.

I'll tell you the same thing I told the other guy I'm speaking with - it's just a matter of time.

Hey, so long as we don't get in each others' way in our respective fields, I don't really care what she does.

Despair, truly the most inspirational yet most terrible of muses. The verses of love lost whilst the scent of her perfume lingers in the air! It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.
