The capsule slides open, but it's occupant doesn't immediately rise to a sitting position. He's in what appears to be a Victorian overcoat, an unbuttoned dress shirt beneath, casual slacks, and worn but finely crafted shoes. Instead of opening his eyes, he begins, in a posh London accent, to make a list aloud.

"The lap of water, but no current. Something large, perhaps a small craft, has recently ceased disturbing the pool. The echoes, along with the faint scent of earth, suggest I am deep underground, but the temperature suggests I am not deep below, but simply within. Very curious.

and what is this weight...?" Without sitting or standing, he reaches up to the box poised on his chest with both hands, moving them across the plain box's surface in an exploratory fashion. Finding the box has no lock, he moves it from his chest and moves to a sitting position, sliding the lid from it and meticulously going through its contents.

He pulls the communicator from the box, turning it over in his hand as his sharp grey eyes flit across its surface. "Transparent, but not made of glass. Interesting." He then pull the pamphlet from the box and begins to read. "More and more interesting..."

[Whoever is using the communicator is clearly new, but they seem to have taken to it's use impressively well.]

Good evening. I apologize for the late hour, but new arrivals to this "Genessia" don't seem to follow any sort of defined schedule. My name is Sherlock Holmes. I've read through the provided materials and listened to the rather clever recording of that charming girl, but I would rather more first-hand accounts as to the nature of this place. I thank you in advance for your generosity.

[Azalea has yet to learn some of the communicator's functions, so she goes to video by default. So have a little dragon appearing in the video screen.]

If by the nature of this place, you mean why we were brought here, no one really knows. The girl in the recording is named Weiss Schnee, and she's the current Guardian of Nova City. You can find her there, or you can contact her with these devices.

"Oh come now... Really?" Maria mutters under her breath, before turning on the video feature on her "phone". "Sorry, sir, but-- until you actually turn on the "video" ability of this ruddy thing, I am disinclined to believe that you are, in fact, a man named Sherlock Holmes-- not only because I was reading about him while I was in hospital, and he was most definitely a Fictional Character-- but really now: even if he were real, he'd be about a hundred years old, by my time of 1979 AD, and you don't sound like some dotty old man!

"Wait: is this Remus Lupin?" She adds in a mutter aside from the video, but still connected to the feed: "Only he would think to disguise his identity with such a famous name, after all. Although... I don't suppose he really sounds like this bloke, either!" She adds quickly back to the feed, "If this is Mister Lupin, and you'd rather not reveal your identity to all: feel free to text me, Remus! There should be instructions on how to do so, in that little booklet with the phone... It's Maria, Remus... Please tell me you remember me, and that you're not from some-- alternative universe wherein I never met you and Jamesy...?"

Good God, this poor girl really has her hopes up that it might actually be someone from her own homeworld, on this feed!

[Airy's been having trouble sleeping so she picks up the phone and listens to the man speaking on the other end.]

What sort of accounts? I just woke up here... earlier this month. I don't know if I can tell you much but I can try.

[She pauses as if suddenly realizing something.]

I guess you didn't fall in.

[There is silence before Airy quickly and nervously adds a few comments.]

I mean the water around the strange pods... not that you would but... I'm Airy.

[She can't help but wonder if this is the Sherlock she's read about but decides it's rude to ask.]

Hello Sherlock I am Kahlan Amnell. It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm sure you've read about the archways; my current residence is in Fayren.

[Her tone is calm and formal.]

There are things that I've found the information provided leaves out. One of which is the conflicts that seem to arise in each archway. They are all very different both in culture and society. I found the one closest to my home to take up residency. it's up to you if you wish to do the same.

My experiance waking up is different than most. I woke up with someone from my world, which I found out later, is uncommon.

[OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!]

Sherlock? You're Sherlock Holmes?!

[Levy had been reading by her bed when she heard the device sound with the cool and calm voice. She had thought to ignore it and go to sleep when she heard the mans name. Who doesn't know Sherlock from the works of Arthur Conan Doyle. This bookworm has read them all.]

It's amazing to meet you and talk to you? Oh! You asked a question. I'm sorry. I have some experiance... I've been here for over half a year but others have been here longer.

Certainly. People have nearly accused me of being a treacherous spy for the amount of things I claim know about The World. What would you like?

Goodness, you're in for a mouthful. I suppose the first thing to know is that we don't know all. The genesis of Genessia is still a mystery; perhaps it'd be easier to start with what it is.

What it is is a syncretism. Just about anything you can think of or might have read about in fiction or, stranger, nonfiction, eventually winds up here. The depository of the universe. Don't you have a saying? Something about the impossible and the improbable? You'll find that the 'remains' are much larger.

So much for the 'what'. Let's move on to the 'who'. There are two forces that seem to run the place or, at the very least, know a sight more about it than we do. One impersonal and one personal. The impersonal is the CPU. It makes broadcasts and runs political process. Efficient, but not much personality.

The personal would be the spirits. I've only met one, which was a green wisp. It didn't so much speak as communicate with perfect intention. Very numinous.

Ah, I almost forgot one. Those former two can be supposed to have this place's best interests at heart, or at least its most constructive. There's another, something malevolent, that would like to bring the world to ruin.

Not much is known about this destructive spirit, save that it exploits the world's fragility. You see, we live encapsulated within a dome that keeps out wretched spirits. Dark, vile things that like to drain people into husks or spiritual zombies. Right now it's a mole on the inside, from whence it coordinates with the mindless evils without. It hasn't been slain or even found yet.

Oh, one detail. You may have noticed an archway by the Bay, where you stepped out of. It's locked now, but legend has it that it will unlock when worthy people bring certain valuable trinkets as proof. Wingate Creek is the name, though what lies inside is another mystery. Some sort of creek, I assume.

So by now you must be getting the impression that this world is perilous. There's some truth to that, but there's another danger. You see, this world's goal in bringing you and I and everyone else here is to resolve a philosophical question and a material necessity. The necessity is to repopulate and save the world through the saving of sentient life. The question is "what does it mean to be alive? ." I assume they mean that in a very abstract way, for any dictionary can describe 'life' easily enough. The rest of this is all theory, by the way. Everything I've said till now comes from the aforementioned wisps, who've never given a reason to be untrustworthy. Other than being largely absent and invisible, anyway.

You see, in most worlds I take it that those who weren't very interested in life could coast along and exist by sheer inertia. You can't do that here. If you fail to take an interest in existence, it's very probable that you will vanish just as suddenly as you appeared. Boredom, apathy, despair. Any or more of those will do the trick and finish you off if you don't exude a certain vitality. It's as though this world is very serious when it says it needs 'lively' people.

The other theory is that 'you' aren't quite...well, the original you. A clone, perhaps. You see, there's this curious machine called 'The Dream Docks' which sort of keeps you up-to-date in the world you left behind. This takes some time to do, during which its users are incapacitated. Some have made the journey, and have tales to tell. What's interesting is what they don't tell; you see, none of the people they've left behind, from what I can gather, ever comment on the extra-dimensional leave of absence these dreamers take. It's as though they never left. Perhaps they didn't. To borrow a botany analogy, we may all be perfect cuttings from a plant that's still doing what it was going to do in its original pot. Not to advocate fatalism, mind.

[Ted talks a lot, if that wasn't clear. He takes a breath.]

So! How does that please you?

Well...I'm not directly involved in the research, so I can't really say how they're going about it.

How would we even go about finding out how we were brought here?

[Azalea considers protesting for a brief second before an idea occurs to her.]

Well...there might be magic involved. I can take a sample to Orphne, and she can check for things...and Percival and Brahm can check for any magical properties...

[She stops again, and realizes that she's probably not making sense to this newcomer, either with the talk of magic, or her companions' names.]

I'm sorry...this might seem out of your element...

[Airy is silently happy that he can't see her nervous smile though it's rather apparent in her voice.]

It's alright, it's nice to meet you too.

When I woke up I... fell out of the pod thing. [Tripped is the correct word to use when describing her escape from the strange tomb like coffin.]

I found the box with all the papers and phone in it, just like you... [She assumes.] I called and it went to everyone which... I'm not used to. There was a Inn close to there I visited before meeting up with someone who knows me.

We woke up at the same time with the same chests with us. Our... pods [It's the best word she can think of.] Were close and we both found our way to the entrance of the cave.

We both remember going to bed at our campfire before waking up here.

[She relates even small details assuming that he wouldn't ask if he doesn't want an answer.]

[Levy smiles finally coming off of her fan high.]

Sorry about that. I was just excited. I'm Levy Mcgarden. I own a bookshop in Fayren. [Which makes perfect sense considering her reaction.] I know others who've been here for over a year and there are many different event like situations that happen in this world.

[Levy's kind of used to that though.]

I've gathered some information on this place with the help of others. I have it written and stored at my shop.

[Currently she's at home because you're calling so late.]

[That's a strange example; one might suppose he'd encountered exactly that. Werewolf impersonators; the nerve!]

"I'm glad you don't seem vexed by the strangeness of it all. Some struggle with that. As for the motive, it was supplied by what we assume to be the motive forces in this place. The spirits said as much themselves. And you're very welcome! Let me know should you need anything. Sadly I don't know any veteran doctors to accompany you, but a reasonable facsimile could be found."
