[ when the feed starts, the girl on the other end of the video seems to jump, as if she wasn't sure what to expect when she pressed the button. ]

Ah- hello! [ she smiles, innocent, but thinly veiling the fear and confusion hiding somewhere behind her large blue eyes. after a moment, she shifts, trying to find a way to hold the videophone as well as the pamphlets and the bills and everything else. thankfully, she has the necklace on already, so that doesn't matter, but she seems unused to having this much to carry around with her.

she's clothed in tatters, something that looks very much like a potato sack, and she seems exhausted. starved, tired, pale - but the paleness to her skin isn't anything to do with exhaustion. instead, it's merely her actual complexion. ] I've just...I've just arrived. And I want to thank Miss, uh, Schnee for the welcome.

I'm not quite sure if this is working, I've never used something like this before, but I was told to use it to find work? I am willing to do just about anything, though I don't have much...experience.

[ for a moment, there is a pause - like she's reminded of something but doesn't want to bring it up, but after a blink her expression shifts back to the easy smile. ] But I am willing to learn.

[She guessed this whole thing was not something she was use to. So she figured she would help now.]

I guess since you are new, all of this is a little strange, but don't worry okay.

[ it's the voice, really, that gets him to rewind the message, because her voice is most of what he's heard over the past few years. and once he watches the video -- and again, for good measure, and once more -- until he's fairly satisfied that the woman on the screen is actually kisara.

who is supposed to be dead -- no, not dead. what had happened to her, exactly? he's seen it so many times that he's forced the memory away, because dealing with it on top of everything else has simply been too much. but kisara is the first thing that broke through from his ancient memories, and she is the constant in all of this. she's supposed to be sealed away, forever. there is no chance of passing on, for her, and seth -- he will never see her again. every memory of kisara that seto has experienced has always been accompanied by this deep, crushing sadness, and it's weighing in his chest now. he knows he should talk to her, do something, but he isn't that person (anymore), and why disappoint her, or make matters difficult -- ]

[ -- to hell with it.

he locks the feed, because he'd rather not have the world know that kisara knows him, or the other way around. paranoia is a fickle thing. but when the feed turns on, seto looks some odd mixture of concerned and frustrated. concerned, because she's here. frustrated, because she's opened the door to being taken advantage of. ]

Kisara.

[ that's a good place to start, to acknowledge that he knows who she is. she can't possibly know who he is -- memory world hadn't allowed for those memories to remain, but kisara had told him that they would meet again. maybe this is what she meant.

doubtful. but maybe.

he can read the fear and confusion in her eyes, easily, and while she's done a good job of not panicking (and not summoning her dragon, because that would've been awkward to explain), something still tugs in him to do... something about that.

and, within a few seconds, seto has resigned himself to what he has to do, and continues. ]

You're safe, here. Are you still at the Bay?

[ she may now know anything about locking feeds or making messages private herself, but it's easy enough to hit a button that says 'reply', easy enough to let the dot light up and to send her message. others have told her it is working, that this is what you're supposed to do, so she's starting to feel a little more confident.

and, of course, the immeasurable relief she feels seeing someone she recognizes. but not only recognizes, someone like- ]

Se- [ but then she stops, because no. no that's not right. he's not seth. even when he appears and knows her name, even when she sees the square and sees those same eyes looking back at her.

it's the strange man with the strange clothes. he knows her name. her eyes go a bit more wide at the sight of him, not quite sure how or why this is all happening, before she belatedly realizes he's asking her questions and she nods, quickly. ]

I'm safe, I'm fine. I am not sure I've left the Bay yet but I'm not far from it. [ she bites at the inside of her lip, wondering if she should go ahead, before taking a breath ad continuing. ] But, sir- what's going on? Why are you here?

[ ah. the correction -- or, rather, the abrupt stop of the name -- means he has to explain. but it's comforting, almost, to be seen as different, because the last thing he wanted was to crush what hope she had of seth actually being here.

the whole sir thing has to go, but that can wait. ]

I'm here for the same reason you are. Someone took me from home, and brought me here.

[ without his consent or permission, but seto doesn't need to transfer his own sense of violation onto a woman that both would understand it and is probably suffering from it herself. he pauses. ]

I'm Seto. [ god, introducing himself feels weird, deep down, in some far-removed part of him ] I can explain the story when I see you. Stay where you are, and I can find you.

[ yes, he does have a lot to explain. but kisara will be patient, not really expecting an explanation at all. she has gotten used to not expecting much from others, even when she has the best intentions. life has taught her not to get her hopes up with just about anything.

but this man - this seto - he's here. he knows who she is. kisara can't really help the way she does feel at ease, in the same way she would around seth, despite how different they are. ]

And we don't know why? [ no, he supposes not. that's what the message had said when she first arrived too. she's asking questions she already knows the answer to. ]

Seto. [ and then she's smiling again. their previous meeting had been clouded by her panic for seth, knowing he was in trouble and needing to find him. this time, there's a lot less urgency for her to keep move. ] It's nice to see you again.

[ the suggestions - or, well, they sound more like orders but she doesn't really mind that - have her nodding. ] I am just past the stand, where the message was given. I can stay here until you get here?

Ah, wonderful.

[ she actually looks extremely relieved. she really had no idea what she was doing. ]

I am very new, yes. And I haven't been anywhere like this before. I didn't know the afterlife would look like this?

[ -- nice to see you again. that gives him pause, and he stares at her for a moment, clearly caught off guard -- but then seto remembers himself, and gives a quick shake of his head. no, he doesn't know why they're here, but he's going to figure it out.

eventually. ]

That's fine.

[ he pauses, juggling around with whether or not he wants to say what he wants to say (it's good to see you too, alive, and in one piece) -- but he decides against it, and his tone shifts slightly -- becoming a little more dry: ]

Don't summon the dragon unless necessary. People will get confused. I'll be there in twenty minutes.

[ for her, it only happened the day prior, so their meeting is fresh on her mind. one of the last she has, really, so it is not unwelcome. the resemblence to seth is uncanny, now that she's thinking about it, so she takes some comfort without blurring any lines.

she won't ever see him again, not really. it would be in her best interest to just keep moving forward.

a nod, when he agrees, and she leans down to set the package of materials down on a nearby bench, or counter, or even just down by her feet. she was going to end up dropping them if she tried this balance game for any longer.

the pause does not go unnoticed, but instead of asking about it, she is instead drawn to what he says after. the...dragon? how does he know about that? kisara blinks once before nodding. ]

Okay. [ she could probably comment about how she has no need to summon it unless there is some kind of danger, but even then, would it work? if it wasn't to protect seth? she isn't sure, but she's not exactly itching to try it out either. ] I will be here.

[ it takes the twenty minutes he promised to arrive, but he's almost hesitant to actually go up to her. it's bizarre -- and it doesn't help that he's torn between relief that she's here (relief that doesn't even belong to him, and he feels wrong calling it his) and trepidation. but then seto remembers that kisara knows he's different, and that helps. there's no letting her down when she's already aware of the difference, and when he approaches her, he looks a little less... intimidating, than normal.

it helps that he's dressed down a little, to blend in, and figure out what to do in this city, but he still has a coat. it's a little chilly. ]

Kisara.

[ to get her attention -- she's here. actually here, present, and in the flesh. breathing, and fine. ]

[ twenty minutes isn't all that long, really. she spends most of it replying to others who have reached out to her through the device, meeting more people in this short span than she has really ever known. in that time, however, the chill does start to set in, and she feels herself rubbing at her arms absentmindedly.

it's not unbearable - she has spent nights out in the sand in much colder than this - but it is not nearly as warm as she's used to.

she looks over at the sound of her name, smiling softly to see him standing there. it feels familiar, to be standing across from him like this, but that's about all she can say. ]

Hello, Seto. [ because he's not seth, and that's a distinction she's aware of. ] I'm sorry to make you come out here.

You didn't make me do anything. [ he chose to, which is an important thing, okay ] Besides, you aren't the only one from our universe here. [ better him than bakura, even though he's been told countless times that bakura is harmless. seto is still suspicious

he pauses, though, at the sight of her -- she looks cold, and she's hardly wearing much, and he sighs, shrugging out of his coat quickly to drape it around her. it's absolutely massive on her, but whatever. it can drag on the ground a bit. it hardly matters. ]

Come on. I can tell you more once we find somewhere private. It's a long story, and most of it isn't pleasant.

[ he pauses before glancing around her, and moves to the bench where she's placed her things, to collect them quickly ]

For now, I can tell you what I know about this world, but it probably isn't much more than what you know.

But you didn't have to, so thank you. [ he is going to take her thanks and he is going to like it, even as she finds herself tilting her head a bit to the side, confused. universe? not the only one? she hasn't been here long, but there is not much about what he just said that makes a lot of sense. ] I'm not?

[ then he is moving, and kisara's eyes go wide. what-? ] Ah! No, I'm- [ but the deed is done, and the coat is over her shoulders, and with a bit of warmth from where it had been around him still lingering, she finds herself reaching up to pull it a bit more tightly around her shoulders. ]

Okay. [ she agrees, though she doesn't have a good feeling about this conversation. she doesn't even know what he could possibly say that would be so unpleasant, but she has a feeling he isn't one to exsaggerate. she turns to grab her things, but he's much faster, and before she can say much he's already got her things gathered. ]

Ah- I can carry those! [ she says, already reaching for the packet. ]

I don't know much, so anything you can tell me will help.

[ seto almost argues over the packet, but he sighs and allows her to take it back. she doesn't know who he is; it's better to just avoid conflict, for now, and allow her to steer the conversation. at least, until he can figure out what to do about this.

she is keeping the coat, though. ]

Whoever brought us here isn't known, yet. There are five cities, and money is given freely at first. You may stay wherever you wish, once you obtain work -- that you're paid for.

[ he's particular to add that emphasis, and he waits for her to gather herself before inclining his head toward the sidewalk. they can catch a train to get closer to seto's apartment. ]

As far as I understand, the possibilities for surviving here are limitless, and you are free to do as you please. Except leave. [ is he bitter, of course not ] There are two others, from home, here, but they're not from your time. They're from mine.

[ she appreciates the fact he lets her have the packet, holding it close to her chest under the cape of the coat still hanging on her shoulders. part of her wonders if she shouldn't give the coat back - if he'd been wearing it then he must also be cold himself - but she gets the feeling he wouldn't take it even if she offered.

so instead, kisara listens to him explain - the different cities, the work, the money. she nods, signalling that she understands, before she starts off in the direction he had been motioning. while she may not know where they are going, she's not suspicious. for whatever reason, she feels...comfortable. around him. enough to follow him to wherever it is they're going.

the idea of limitless possibilities feels good. something warm and exciting. she can hear the bitterness in his tone when he mentions how they are not allowed to leave, but kisara doesn't necessarily agree with him. if this really was some kind of afterlife, she didn't really expect to leave in the first place.

it's what he says next that confuses her, her brow furrowing as she turns to look over at him. ]

My...time? [ guess who has literally no idea what you're talking about, seto. ] What do you mean?

If you don't have much experience when it comes to work, there is always places that would be a good start.

[He wouldn't really know much about that kind of work however, but he also figured she seemed to be willing to work, so it shouldn't be that hard, right?]

But it's nice to see people who are willing to want to learn.

I don't have much experience, no. Not many people back home would let me work for them.

[ she says this with a smile, like it's not at all a big deal that she had been totally cut off from the rest of the towns. honestly, it's amazing she got any responses at all of people talking to her, but she's not going to question that now. ]

Of course I want to learn. If I have the opportunity to, why wouldn't I take it?

Your world existed three thousand years before I was born.

[ this is hedging into unpleasant territory, but kisara asked, and so seto will tell her. he slows to a stop at the train stop, slipping his hands into his pockets as he waits -- considering heavily whether or not he wants to continue, before -- ]

I was only present in that time period because Bakura created a dark game, and trapped me there. [ i was following yuugi, and you. ] I was born in modern day Japan.

[ though his soul, apparently, is much older ]

Kisara is from our world.

[ god this is so awkward ]

She is from the same time period as the spirit that lives within your Puzzle, and the High Priest on that ridiculous tablet Isis hauls around.

Life was not kind to her.

[ which is seto's way of saying "look i don't have to tell you this but don't make her cry because he has to deal with it and seto cannot deal with it" ]

[ she comes to a stop at that, her eyes pulling a bit wider at the implication. three thousand years? of course, the first voice she hears is there's no way and it's impossible and how? and as she stares at seto, watching him come to a stop a couple of steps down from her.

the name bakura she recognizes, or think she recognizes, but she's not sure. the mention of a dark game has her blood running cold, taking her back to the cage, to monsters, seth jumping in to save her. in her gut, she hurts, thinking that he would have been pulled into a dark game three thousand years down the road...

modern day japan means very little to her, but her eyes remain wide. ]

Then that day when we met- you were sent backwards? To my time? [ a beat, and then- ] Do you know why?

To help the Pharaoh defeat whatever evil he needed to conquer.

[ it's said automatically, because that much is true. seto needed to help atem, and he had chosen to help atem. to help yuugi. to throw his weight behind the two of them in order to defeat zorc.

but that's not the entire story, and he turns to frown at her -- critically, watching her, almost as if she should know the answer already. ]

I also needed to meet you.

[ to get answers, to know why he kept seeing her every single time he was in a duel, and hearing her voice, and having her interrupt his thoughts and seeing her die whenever he strayed too close to the sennen items. that much was for seto's own peace -- there was no saving kisara. nothing could change that destiny. ]

[ it's the mention of the pharaoh that hits her square in the chest, nearly makes her drop the package she'd been so intent on carrying herself. he says help the pharaoh and she blinks, she sees seth, and she's frozen to the spot. she'd seen the resemblance before, she'd recognized it and thought it nothing more than a coincidence. ]

You know the Pharaoh?

[ the realization of the connection has her eyes falling down to the ground between them, needing a moment or two of her own to really let it sink in. then all of this was connected, seth and seto. it was too much to think she would just happen upon him, that he would look so much like her -

i also needed to meet you

kisara slowly pulls her eyes back up to him, unsure if she heard that right. ] Me? [ of all people, of everyone who lived in egypt. she stares at him for a few moments in complete silence, searching for something in his face she's not sure she'll be able to find. a clue, maybe. a sign that would make this all make sense.

her hand curls in the middle of her chest, a bit off from her heart. ]

Is it because of the White Dragon?

[ seto doesn't particularly like talking about atem, because talking about him means facing the reality that he's gone. and that's a good thing, and he knows it's a good thing, but he's still struggling with the fact that he had no closure -- no proper closure, between them. seto had nearly died, countless times over, to protect atem, and his so-called destiny to keep the darkness at bay. but that wasn't enough.

still, seto is the one who brought it up, and he purses his lips slightly. ]

Unfortunately. The idiot is one of my friends.

[ it slips out easily, and seto almost pauses there, to take it back, but -- no, kisara is asking more questions. ]

Partially.

[ but when the train arrives, seto stops, and steps up on board, gesturing toward kisara ]

It's a long story. Come on.

You should really be careful about what you say. Someone may take advantage of it.

[She sounds naive enough for anyone to do as such. It'll only be a matter of time...]

[ kisara has never actually met the pharaoh. doesn't know anything about him other than the stories whispered around in the streets. part of her wonders if he really was as fair and strong as they all say, and she hopes as much. hopes that the man seth had pledged his life to really was as kind and fair.

she isn't quite sure how seto would know him, or how the connection between their times worked, but seto says friends like it's a word he's not used to saying.

the answer to whether or not it's about the dragon has her holding her breath - mostly because it was the only thing she could think about. the only extraordinary thing about her that could possibly connect her to anything more. but partially confuses her, partially she doesn't understand.

it's the train that breaks her out of her momentary silence, blinking once or twice before nodding. ] O-kay.

[ she steps onto the train, though she doesn't know much of what she's supposed to do. which means right inside she turns back to seto and waits for him to follow. the coat catches on some of the wind as she moves into the traincar, but she pulls it closer around her shoulders, like a blanket. ]
