I gotta keep everything on that path and protect it or you end up on a doomed timeline which is this whole thing that translates to everyone dying. But the whole looping, rewinding, speeding up or skipping around - think of it like a record I'm remixing the hell out of. Doing something as reckless as trying to change the entire thing completely would scratch it and kill the beat but I can make it sound how I want more or less.
