Excuse me, Weiss? I wanted to see if you could make an appointment to meet with a new arrival. She was scared beyond her wits when she arrived, and I did my best to help her, but I think it would help her more to speak with an official rather than a random passerby who happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Plus she expressed an interest in meeting you. When would you have time for a brief meeting?

I beg your pardon. We spoke briefly once, but I don't think I had the chance to introduce myself. My name is Athrun Zala, and I'm a resident of Nova City. I was reading your interview in the newspaper, and I confess the story of your origin has me intrigued, for it is -- at least to a degree -- not unlike my own. I was wondering if we could meet somewhere to talk in greater detail.

[Action; Nova City]

[After making those two calls, Athrun leaves his apartment to kill time in town. It's a day off for him, and he's too restless over the bombing that happened last week to stay cooped up at home.

The main thing he does is he travels down to the subarchway leading to Onogoro, so he can inform Morgenroete about the bombing and make sure they tighten their security. Once that is done, he returns to Nova City. He can be found at various locations throughout the day -- restaurants, parks, PC cafes, Holodeck'd, etc. The one place he stays away from is ground zero of the terrorist attack, because he needs to relieve his stress.]

There are three welcoming centers that I formed literally for that purpose. Unless she actually needs a City Guardian, I can't take the time to greet every new person who pops up here right now in case you didn't notice the 40 people murdered in an explosion the other day.

[Mewtwo arches an eyebrow, taking stock of Athrun, with maps of Fayren with various markings on each strewn around his sanctuary.]

You'll pardon my disbelief, but you look just as human as anyone else in this place. As for meeting in person, I'm afraid I'll have to decline at the moment. My work against the Hands of Decay takes priority for the moment.

[Oh. Right. Athrun nearly smacks himself in the face. He'd forgotten about those. Talk about a mental lapse.

He does visibly wince, though.]

...Ah. Yes, I know. I just promised her I'd try to arrange something, and I'm not one to go back on my word.

As a heads-up, she might try to get a hold of you on her own, though. I mentioned the prospect to her and it got her right fired up.

[Athrun's face remains mostly impassive, though he does show a twinge of disappointment.]

I do, yes. In my case, the traits that set me apart aren't visible -- not without a tissue sample and DNA analysis.

...I suppose I can explain over the connection. I've certainly never heard of any instances of communication being hacked or traced. Can I assume that your present location is free of any hidden listening devices?

[Athrun himself has thoroughly swept his own apartment for bugs. He's confident what he says won't be overheard or recorded on his end.]

[Now that Crystal has gotten an apartment in Nova city she sets off to explore the surrounding area. She walks through the city in a summer dress with a relaxed smile playing across her lips. She's heard of the turmoil in the city but then she's used to New York which has had it's own share of mayhem. The best someone like her can do is stay out of the way; she isn't a fighter.

As she explores more of the town she pauses, her black heels clicking against the pavement. She spots Athrun walking down the street and she moves only seconds before they run into each other.]

Excuse me.

[She smiles at him, reading the tension in his shoulders.]

Can I trouble you for a moment? [Her lips curl into a light smirk as she continues. If he doesn't want to lend her a hand he can keep walking.] I'm looking for a cake or a small coffee shop. Something homey.

That's fine if she does as long as she understands that there are resources available for her without having to wait until a terrorism investigation is over.

Hm?

[Athrun had been lost in thought. Thus he hadn't noticed the woman until he spoke up.]

Hmm...

[He looks around at his surroundings. Where was he? It takes him a moment to get his bearings.]

I'm not one who's terribly big on cafes, but...I believe there's one around the corner, as well as two down the street back the way I came. Though I can't necessarily speak for their quality.

I...will try to take care of that. She's rather...

[Athrun's not sure how to put it, so he digs through his vocabulary for a few seconds.]

...Spoiled.

Oh?

I'll have to try them all then.

[Crystal raises an eyebrow, her eyes studying him curiously.]

You sound like you have something else on your mind. Is everything alright? [It might be kindness or there might be another reason she's asking. It's hard to tell.]

[Athrun takes a deep breath.]

I'm sorry. I'm just thinking about the terrorist attack here last week. It just makes me angry that people have the audacity to commit such atrocities.

You don't know who did it?

[Crystal's voice was smooth and warm like honey however the topic mixes a sour taste to her question. She's used to radical groups proclaiming their aim, usually making themselves as a target as they do.

She wonders just how safe Nova City was.]

[While Athrun is taking his stroll around the city, he'll get a phone call from Troy through an encrypted line]

Athrun. It's Troy. Did I catch ya at a bad time?

Yes, my sanctuary is secure. Only I will know what is said here and I have no interest in repeating it.

[Later in the day, about the same time Allen met him before, Athrun would get a call- from none other than Allen, who was getting ready to leave work at the time. Though he wasn't unaware of the attacks in Nova City, it's probably not his place to comment on it.]

Hey, sorry for not keeping up lately, but I figured you'd want to know that the reactor I was building for you is ready. If you're available, I could bring it to you. If anything comes up though, I could just drop it off somewhere for you.

I have my suspicions. But I haven't heard anyone claiming responsibility, which is odd.

After all, if we don't know who did it, it defeats the whole point of a terrorist attack.

[Athrun picks it up immediately. He doesn't have anything else to do at the moment.]

Hey. No, not at all. Did you need something?

[Crystal's expression grew more serious, her usual flirty smile gone.]

That isn't necessarily true. Sometimes attacks are simply used to build fear, when people are afraid they are unpredictable and they will act without thinking.

[It's happened through history again and again.]

All right, good.

[Athrun still wants to keep this mostly a secret. Especially now with the Red Claw running loose in Nova City.]

The fact is, in my world, genetic alteration of human DNA is not only possible, but commonplace. About half a century ago, the world's first genetically-enhanced man released the information on how to perform the process to the general public. This resulted in a boom of what were known as Coordinators -- people who underwent genetic enhancement surgery in the embryonic stage of their development. Coordinators have greater intelligence, athleticism, reflex speed, immunity, and growth potential than the overage Natural. Furthermore, if two Coordinators are to mate, then their progeny are also Coordinators via inheritance of their genes.

That's what I am -- a second-generation Coordinator.

[Good news. That's something that Athrun particularly needs right now. He's glad to hear from Allen again.]

That's good news. Thanks for letting me know. I'm free now, so could you meet me at my apartment? I'd be happy to give you the address.

I suppose that's true, as well. Generally, though, it seems less common. And in this case, it raises more questions. As far as I know, I'm not the only one who suspects the same culprit.

...Have you heard of the Red Claw in your time here?

[She wonders where he's taking his bases of comparison for less common. Then again a lot of what happens in the United States is emphasized by the news and other social media, spreading wide fear while placing the blame on anything, be it accurate or just a convenient scapegoat. The truth changes between channels which is another reason that Crystal dislikes the TV.

Perhaps it's different where he's from but that is a conversation for another time.]

I haven't.

[She replies in a cool voice.]

I've only just arrived.

I thought about getting us an outpost here in Nova City. Like a forward operating base of sorts, just in case shit hits the fan, we can respond quick.

[Troy pauses briefly, hitting a few keys on a holographic keyboard making soft beeping sounds with every press]

Where do you park your Gundam at the moment?

Oh, I see. Well, they're a group of cyborg supremacists. They have a grudge with Aster Technologies. Since Aster was responsible for building the apartments that were destroyed, the Red Claw are the primary suspects.

Not a bad idea.

[In fact, it's one that Athrun quite likes. He wishes he had thought of it sooner.]

At the moment, I've been keeping it in my apartment. Guardian Haller is lending me his powers to miniaturize and restore it as needed. I restore its size about once a week to perform basic maintenance, but the only place I've been able to do that is in a nearby vacant lot. I would definitely appreciate a place to do that elsewhere and only shrink it when I need to take it through an archway.

[Crystal hums softly.]

I see. Are there any other radical groups like them?

[Suppression is everywhere though she isn't going to form an opinion about this world until she learns more.]
