[The video feed opens to a rather tired looking Conan sitting in front of the dream docks.]

I'm back. Anyone know how long I was gone? And has anything happened here?

[He doesn't say anything about what happened while he was dreaming of home. Conan supposed it was good to know that nothing much had changed back home, but he didn't really consider the details to be anyone's business. Dairine would just complain about his recklessness again.

He couldn't help but feel a little grateful that the dreaming docks were just that. Only dreams. It saved him from having to deal with all the minor injuries he'd picked up in this last case.]

[ And guess who had gotten nosy and followed you to the Dream Docks, Conan.

And guess who probably woke up at the worst possible time during their latest adventure?

Yeah. This thief here.

Which is pretty much why he's running full tilt towards you. And the only reason he doesn't look completely and utterly panicked is because Poker Face is a godsend sometimes. ]

Tantei-kun!

[Conan blanches at the sight of Kid running towards him, and hastily drops the communicator and climbs to his feet. ]

[ KID is going to stop in front of the detective, peering down at him with a slightly peeved look on his face. Be honored, Conan, that's more then most people get out of him, considering. ]

What the hell where you thinking?!

[You were going to have to be a lot more specific. ]

Pulling that stunt with Mouri-chan! I know my first plan wasn't going to work but you didn't give me time to come up with a second!

[ It's easy enough when it's just himself, but not when he's got two other lives on his shoulder as well.

Not that he'll admit it, of course, but there is a small, tiny part of him that's honored that Kudo trusts him enough to know he'd get Ran out of there. There's very people he'd trust Aoko's like with, if push comes to shove, and Kudo is definitely among them now. ]

If you'd had time, could you have come up with another plan with a better chance of success?

[And he didn't care about what had happened to him just after. They'd gotten Ran out. That was all that mattered.]

[ Of course he could, who do you take him for, Tantei-kun, really. ]

Then I wouldn't be worried that I left you to drown!

A fair while, I would say. People have been concerned for you, young man. [ This is ~~Lupin's~~ Erin's scolding expression and tone of voice. ]

I left a note for Dairine.

[Wasn't that enough? ]

If you'd stayed any longer, all three of us would have drowned.

[A beat.]

And I didn't drown. I found a way out.

Like I would have let that happen to either you or Mouri-chan.

[ Wait. What. ]

You did? How?

I ended up under the lake with the last painting. I just had to get through the rock.

[ KID takes a step back, as if studying the other. ]

And then swim for the surface.

I used the explosion as a boost.

[ KID lets out a breath he hadn't even realized he'd be holding. ]

Next time, Meitantei, we are not cutting it that close.

[ Because there will always be a next time, won't there? ]

[Three times is enough to set a pattern. There had been a lot more than three disasters at their meetings. It was a statistical trend now. ]

It wasn't an experience I'd be inclined to repeat. [Near drowning was never a pleasant experience.]

But I'm open to suggestions on how to prevent this kind of thing.

Figure out the clues faster?

[ He's teasing. Mostly.

But dear lord, did everyone honestly think that he would be the type to blow up a plane or try to harm the old man?

He liked the old man, for crying out loud. Wouldn't have rescued his dog if he didn't. ]

Only a simple note is not much comfort.

[Leaving a note was significant progress for Conan. He usually preferred to run off and get things done without letting anyone know where he was. But his long acquaintance with Dairine had gotten him to at least leave a note before leaving.

If only because the inevitable scolding on his disappearances was annoying to deal with.]

I wasn't aware comfort was needed.

If its urgent, make them more obvious.

[Because even if Conan hadn't believed that those actions could have been kids, it had taken far too long to pick out all the clues left behind. ]

They were obvious? [ For him anyway. ] Is the Great Detective losing his touch?

I have other things to work on besides untangling your riddle games, you know.

[He played along because you made it interesting, not because it was a high priority.]

I can't just give you the information, Meitantei! That's not how these things work.

Try delivering it directly then, rather then chancing that I'll catch someone opening it.

You should have known since the beginning something was up. Since when have I stolen paintings?
