[She'd run. That was first clear memory after Battler had finally released her. She was in a forest, she could tell that much, but where didn't matter. All she could focus on was putting as much distance as possible between her and the monster she could still sense behind her as possible. There was a wounded and terrified part of her that could feel him behind her still, and that scared little girl ran until the muscles in her legs wanted to give out, until her chest was burning with her own breath, and she still kept running.]

Hi. Um, so, if you don't know me, my name's Cas. I'm wondering if anyone's hiring. I can learn to do just about anything.

Just...nothing in Fayren. Ever.

[Toby had begun his search for Cas the moment she hadn't come home from work. The video that airs a few hours later only served to infuriate him. Anger, hate, and a lack of control coursed through him. That was, until he tastes her scent on the air. He can smell the fear and it spurs him forward.

He's running on four paws, heedless and careless of clothing. He needs to reach her and quickly.

He sees her thin, two legged form running through the woods. It's easy to catch up to her and he dashes in front of her, her torso running into the soft warmth of his side. A low growl vibrates in his throat as he begins to shift. Strong arms wrap around her, pulling her close to his chest.]

I found you, Cas.

[His voice is only a whisper as he feels his control strength once more.]

Question: what can't you do? Learning just about anything is great and all but also kinda vague. On the flip side, got any notable skills?

Tony Stark, by the way. Not quite to the hiring point but should be soon enough.

I've waited tables, I was a bartender, stripper...

...and yeah. I taught myself how to fix my bike.

[The scent of her mate is the most comforting thing she could have thought of, and as his strong arms wrap around her, she wraps her arms around him, clinging to him, and tears begin to well in her eyes.]

Toby... [Her voice breaks at the next part.] I don't even know where we are...

CAS!

I'm really happy to see that you're okay. I'm here if you need me! I'm trying to find a job too and I was told 'can turn into a tree' should be on my resume. Though I guess I should also put on 'Can create twinkie spider'

You out of snacks? I can bring stuff over!

[Toby gathers Cas up in his arms keeping her close to his chest.]

I know. I'll take us home.

[With her secured against him he walks from the forest, his pace is even and his eyes flick between Cas and the area around him. He isn't going to let her go anytime soon and he isn't going to attempt to speak to her until they are in the safety of the four walls they've begun to call home.]

Now we're getting somewhere. The last one? Useful.

I had a pretty big company back home that I'm looking to recreate here with some fine tuning to the focus. Different place, different needs, etc. If you can work with mechanical things and do it well I'd consider that an immediate hire -- if you agree to a demonstration of your skills, of course.

This would be in Nova City, FYI.

[It is comforting, hearing from Airy, even though it's only text.]

Hey, Airy. It's good to hear from you.

We...don't really want for food anymore. Toby eats a lot, but sure. You can come over.

Can I come see you now? I don't mind coming over later. I've just missed you.

I mean it hasn't been that long but it feels like a year for me. It's a little strange. I hope you're okay. <3

[She nods against his chest, not wanting any more distance between the two of them as was necessary to allow them to walk. She didn't say anything as they made their way through the gate, and she was mindless of the stares the received at their appearance. Honestly, she didn't even really realize she was naked, or that he was. It just didn't occur to her.

Once they were in their apartment, she allows herself to be led to wherever it is Toby would like to sit them down, still not having let him go.]

Well, I never went to school for anything or...anything like that. I'm just pretty good at figuring things out.

[This sounds promising, though.]

Uh...yeah. That's fine. You can come.

...a whole year?

Yeah, I went to the Dream Docks.

I wanted to be able to help my friends and remember Nathan. A lot happened. I'll be there in 15.

[Airy knocks on the door with a bag of sweets with her. She remembers Cas's favorites from that their last sugar high.]

Okay, and you should totally tell me what happened back home.

Action;

[And she'll be answering the door when she knocks, smiling at the sight of the goodiebag.]

[Toby softly pushes the door closed behind him, his attention completely on Cas. He doesn't want to let her go but he can tell that she might need more than just rest. Her shifts her against him holding her with one arm while he moves to the kitchen. He fills a plastic cup with water and then walks towards the bedroom.

He places the cup of water on the floor and then kneels to lay Cas down. He can feel her clinging against him and so he continues to the bed keeping her curled against his chest. His fingers lightly begin to pet her hair as he whispers against her forehead.]

Cas. Are you awake? Can you hear me?

[His voice is deeper than usual. He tries to hide his feelings of pain and disappointment in himself but he can't.]

[Airy holds the bag towards Cas with a bright smile. It's really good to see Cas feeling better.]

I brought sweets anyway. Just in case.

[She peeks inside and once again it seems that Cas's roommate has seen himself out.]

You alone?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'll tell you the same thing I told the last person who said something like that: I hire based on skill, not degree.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how good is pretty good? 1 being akin to a toddler learning that the triangle shape doesn't go into the square shape and 10 being genius extraordinaire level.

[ He'll dock points if she picks 10 because there's only room for one 10. He is the 10. ]

I don't think I have anything, unless you like working with animals.

[She sniffs, silent tears wetting his chest, but she doesn't seem to notice, and she nods again, her voice breaking as she speaks.]

Yeah, I'm awake. [Another sniff.] I don't know if I'll ever sleep again.

[She nods.] Yeah...for now. He doesn't stay gone long, though. He's...worried about me.

[She moves out of the way, allowing her friend to come into the apartment.]

How, uh, are you doing? You know, after seeing home?

I'm no genius, but I know my way around a socket wrench so...7.5?

What kind of animals?

I'm fine.

[Which isn't untrue, she's had over a year to heal from her own experiences.]

Turns out you can't really control how much or little you see. So it felt like I was gone for a year and a handful of months. I was kidnapped over a year ago and while I still remember... [Airy shrugs.] I had help through the pain.

[She's not completely okay but she's okay enough to keep moving. She still gets nightmares and jumps at the sound of bells.]

It's a lame question but how are you?

[Toby lightly pulls back her hair, his fingers running through the dark silky strands. He is comforted by her return but each shiver and spoken word digs into him like a jagged blade. He nuzzles against her head keeping his arms protectively wrapped around her.]

You will.

[In time.]

I’m here now. I’ll pro- [He stops himself feeling the word catch in his throat. He’s failed but he still has to be strong.] I’ll protect you Cas.

[Sort of okay at least. It was better than nothing.]
