[Ace is camped on his favorite spot on the beach of Genessia on another pile of driftwood and such that he's been collecting for various Ace related reasons. He doesn't look really happy, though. And he even sounds pissed, voice tight and clipped.]
I'm looking to start a pirate crew. Not sure what the ultimate goal is but for right now adventure, breaking laws, maybe some arson and never paying for anything you eat ever.
If you're interested come and apply in person.
You know where I am.
[it's almost as if he has ulterior motives for this post. But what could they be?]

[Action]
[And Smoker doesn't walk into lion traps.]
[WELL, OKAY HE ACTUALLY DOES. EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL. BUT HE STILL HATES HIMSELF AND BERATES HIMSELF FOR IT: BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER.]
[Which is why he reluctantly hunts Ace down, standing a good thirty feet away, one hand on the jitte, still debating every inch of this.]
[And just VERY VERY VERY LIGHTLY ventures a haki tap to the shoulder.]
[HE CAN DO HAKI NOW LOOK AT HIM.]
[OR don't look at him and then maybe he can sneak away and just watch.]
[Also what the hell he just took an order from a pirate.]
[A dead pirate]
[And blood of Gold Roger has nothing to do with it.]
[He hates himself a lot.]
[Well, if he's going to do this, no sense doing it halfway.]
[So he closes the distance until they're only fifteen feet away :|]
[Action]
Then he goes to the bonfire and lights it. There are two crudely made drift wood chairs sitting in front of it, both with beers beside them in the sand (don't think too much where he got them) and a few fish arrayed around the fire on sicks.
Ace flops in one of the chairs and waits for Smoker to decide to join him or not]
[Action]
[And eventually has to move the jitte to jab into the sand, on the opposite side of Ace so Smoker can still grab it obviously.]
[And steals some fish, kicking out his heels in the sand.]
Not bad Portgas. Not bad.
[The chairs, the setup, the fish.]
[He's kind of iffy on the beers because if it was stolen, he's not taking party to that damn it.]
So this is what you do here?
[Action]
Of course he stole them you nitwit.
But he'll leave them there in case Smoker changs his mind or forgets]
For now...
[but maybe not for much longer. He's not sure yet.]
So I've been thinking...
First of all... this... is filled with hot pockets. [he gestures to the fire] And who knows if a spark is going to stay in one or jump to another. And it might meet a spark that's stayed in that other place and kept burning. It's a little weird, because Marco says something like time...
I don't really understand it but I thought about it.
Though I guess that doesn't say if there's a purpose to this or not...
[leans his head back and pops off a beer cap before taking a slug]
But if there is a purpose, maybe you're here to figure out how to be something other than a Marine? Take a break. Go fishing. Go to a strip club. [grins]
Maybe make cigars. [and he'll steal one of Smoker's] Just relax.
[Action]
[9/10ths of the rest of what Ace said was nonsense, but it was D-sense, so in a weird sort of way Smoker understood it. Kind of. Vaguely. The important things.]
Strip clubs aren't fun without Drake to fluster. [OKAY TRUTHFULLY SMOKER WAS NEVER INTO STRIP CLUBS. If anyone in the marines was going to get flustered... Smoker was first, and Hina was last. Well, Tashigi could get flustered more easily than Smoker, but that was a ten years later thing.] Fishing's all right, but I'd rather ice fish, it adds an actual challenge to it. [The challenge being not freezing your ass off, or pretending you were totally immune to cold.]
But....
Thanks.
[Because he knows Ace is trying, and he appreciates that.]
[Smoker leans back and closes his eyes, thinking, before opening one to keep an eye on the pirate.] And don't tell anyone I thanked a pirate. [He'll deny it. And then punch you. Maybe in reverse order.]
[Although...]
Isn't there something you'd want to do if you could be --
[It sounds wrong to say "normal" but...] Normal? I had my devil fruit young, and like I said, I was beating up pirates even when I was eight, so it was never an option before. I don't want to not work, I'll go insane. I'm just not terribly familiar with what civilians do usually. [Hand wave.] And don't say fishing and strip clubs. I mean for work.
[Action]
And then Smoker just has to bring it down.
Ace is pissed all over again but it's an old grudge that still burns in the pit of his gut and makes everything confusing. Asking him? What it was like to be normal? Never an option? Smoker had more options than he knew what to do with.
Not that Ace ever once felt like he was trapped as a pirate but more that it gave him freedom that nothing else would.
Forget all that though. It's not important. Ace is Ace and Smoker is Smoker]
You wouldn't be satisfied with anything civilians did. If you could be, you'd know how to relax.
[he leans back and puffs on the cigar]
As for me I can't tell you. Don't know. [didn't want to think about it because what was the point?]
Why not start a fighting ring or something?
[Action]
Yeah?
[Turns over and leans on the arm to look at Ace curiously and nods, leaning back, closing his eyes again.] Okay, but you have to help. I don't want to deal with pirates and the like. [STICKS HIS TONGUE OUT.]
[But he's dealing with Ace. Oh well.]
[Action]
[Action]
What if you have to put on a legitimate front? Don't you Whitebeards do that?
[Action]
Also he tweaks another cigar]
[Action]
[Sorry Ace, you have his attention, but you clearly don't know what to do with it.]
So long as you don't set me up against any weaklings.
[Action]
Is this actually a fighting ring or do you just want me to hook you up with fights? [shakes his head] You need a dog.
[how sad can you get]
[Action]
[>:|]
[Pokes Ace's head with the hilt end of his jitte.]
I'm not lonely. I'm only here because I'm not afraid of pirates. [Eyeroll.] That's too pathetic. And because I stole your fish. [Stealing from pirates is okay.]
[Action]
[That's the whole point of a fighting right obviously.
also he shoves the jitte away]
And the fish is my treat. [so suck on that]
It's okay to be lonely, sencho. Really.
[Action]
Portgas, I've spent the last 2 years trying to get space to be alone.
I'm not lonely.
I miss Tashigi, but only because I forgot until now how much I make her handle.
[Action]
[Action]
I'm not trying to exile myself from the rest of the world here. I want to lure out our kidnappers, and I don't want to get soft between then.
You are really Garp's grandson.
[Action]
also this would have gone a lot smoother if you'd started with this earlier this afternoon.]
I mean we can challenge people to come fight us and get some gambling started. [Marco would be happy with that]
[Action]
[...]
[He distrusts simple, do you know that?]
[But he'll take it for face value because of the Garp's grandson thing.]
I've decided it's too cliche to work at a cigar shop. [He's serious.]
[No really.]
[Seriously.]
[Action]
[he knows that much]
If we're settled on something why are we talking about something else?
[pops a beer and offers]
[Action]
[And Smoker starts to reach for it....]
[Before frowning. >:| No. No Stolen merchandise damn you.]
Because I can't just fight.
But I think I know what I'll do.
[Action]
Yeah? What?
[Action]
[He will try to drag Ace there to make him work it off >:|]
[Action]
[Action]
[UGH NOW HE IS BLUSHING.]
[FUCK HE HATES HIS LIFE.]
[And just glances away.]
Motorcycles. I'd rather not do regular bikes, that's Kuzan's territory but...
[Glances back.] So?
