[When the feed clicks on Maribelle is seated at a simple booth, her umbrella resting next to her on the booth, and her free hand holding a cup of steaming tea.]

Hello my fellow kidnap victims, I am Maribelle.

[She sip her tea rather daintily before sitting it down and looking directly into the device.]

I won't mince words, or lament my current situation because there isn't really much to discuss. I'm a noblewoman of Ylisse, and I intend to look into the current state of the justice system of our new home. With so many people brought here from so many different realms I expect there might be a constant state of anarchy if not for rather strict law enforcement. Since I didn't see brawling in the streets and this city seems to be in relatively good spirits, I have to assume someone is doing their job rather well. I'd like to help if I can, but I suppose I'll need a bit more information before a jump headlong into any promises I can't keep.

[She sighs, and places her tea cup down on its saucer.]

I've read these instructions I've been started with, and they were decently comprehensive. I'd like to extend my gratitude to miss Weiss if she's still here, and I would be willing to accept recommendations on which districts of this city have the finest accommodations. I may not have been started with much in the way of funds, but I suspect with my natural talents and well breeding it shan't take me long to recoup my losses. If there are any members of the shepherds here, or the Ylisstan courts, I'd ask that they please contact me as soon as possible.

[She seems to hesitate for a moment or two before raising her hand to cover her face, a slightly pained look coming over her.]

I suppose that I should also mention that if there are any who remember me as a ship Captain may also feel free to contact me, though in truth I think I'd rather put that part of my life behind me.

[With a touch, Maribelle turns off her device and leans back in her booth. Not actually slouching because a noblewoman of Ylisse never slouches! For those of you who might be at the Cat's Eye Cafe, you may run into Maribelle mulling her situation over in a booth in the back, pondering over what she plans to do with her new life here.]

You were a captain of a ship?

[Because that seems at odds with the rest.]

Oh, and yeah, there's a pretty good stable judicial system. You can talk to Weiss if she doesn't see this. But there's several elected deputies, and then various guardians of the cities and a robot police force. They have to prove any crime committed or accused, and I forgot to ask how the judge and jury are selected but I think they're of natives to this place.

C-... Commodore Smoker? Or is it rear admiral now?

[It has been a while, so she couldn't be 100% certain.]

Suffice to say I wasn't exactly suited to the role, but it was more thrust upon me. You may not remember this, or know of this depending on how the timelines work, but you were technically my first mate if you could really call it that. I wanted to rally the people to rise up against the pirate menace that we'd been thrown into, but things did not work out quite the way I hoped they would.

[She shook her head, blonde locks bouncing off her shoulders as she did so.]

It matters little enough I suppose. This place seems to be safer than the last world I'd been kidnapped to, and what happened in the past should be learned from and moved on from. In Ylisse I was a court magistrate, so my knowledge of law and justice is fairly strong for the courts of Ylisse, but the laws in place here may vary quite a bit.

Vice admiral.

[Not that he gives a fuuuuck. He only has the rank because lulz.]

[this is fairly surprising. He hadn't expected to see her again. But, well...it's interesting nontheless.]

It seems they have a good system in place already. There are city guardians as well as bounty boards. But as I understand it there are things going on underneath the surface... or maybe above them. I haven't been here long...

[and then after a moment when he realizes she might not be aware of his knowledge of their shared history]

It's been a while.

My you have been busy haven't you?

[She hums a little laugh as if she's in on a joke only she knows about.]

Don't worry yourself overly much about it. Suffice to say I know that you are a man of impeccable character, and a thoroughly grumpy fellow when you do not have more than one cigar in your mouth. Oh, and that you hate tea in spite of my efforts to refine you.

Admiral.

[She nods in acknowledgement of his recognition. Smoker seemed to be oblivious of her knowledge, but Kuzan the enigmatic and cool tempered Admiral seemed to remember her.]

I'm surprised that of all the people to remember me it is you, though I suppose you can't forget a charming beauty like myself so easily.

[That was a joke, because she didn't really see Kuzan as thinking of her in such a way but it amused her to think that might be why.]

Might I ask what you plan to do with your new life here?

Beauty like yours is hard to forget.

[a little flirting never hurt anyone. Still she's an energetic young lady and entirely too invested to bash herself a place with her parasol out of some need of justice or notice or simply fear of letting things get too far out of her control]

Maa, well... who knows. Maybe nothing at all. [or at least that's what he's aiming for]

[She's just going to smile politely at his flirtatious flattery, before moving onto more serious matters.]

Hah, that does seem to be your style. I've noticed that when things seem to be working out for the best you sit back and bide your tiem. It's certainly not the worst of traits you could have, but I think I will want to take a more active role in seeing things stay running smoothly. You don't need to worry about me doing anything brash, I'm not some hot headed firebrand with a thirst to lead the masses.

[She learned rather well when she was a Captain that she was not cut out for the heavy roll of leadership.]

I plan to choose my fights carefully, and see where I can make the most difference with as little danger to stability as possible. If I do get settled before you, you can feel free to call on me for a reference or whatever else it is that you might require. You're a good man, even if we both approach life in slightly different manners.

I...

[Raises a finger... Well, that bit about the cigars and tea is definitely valid. And fighting against pirates.]

[But aw, she is like a grown up Carol.]

[He wants to giver her a teddy bear picnic and squish her cheeks.]

Are you related to Carol?

[Thinks harder.] Ylisse, you mentioned that. There's a gate to there... I think. [Waves a hand.] It's just something I overheard that stuck, so I might be wrong. [He has been before, but it stuck so he mentions it.]

Where are you now? I'll join you. For coffee. [SCREW TEA.]

Maaa... well... don't you think you're being a little arrogant? You're not a captain here and what if they don't want your help.

[she reminds him of a noble in a lot of ways and sometimes not particularly good ones for all her good intentions. He also feels vaguely insulted even if perhaps she had no intention of doing so. It's just her manner and he understands that but...]

Have you ever considered relaxing and enjoying life? Not everything is calling out for your personal attention.

That's your god daughter correct?

[She's fairly certain she remembered him mentioning that she looked like she was her older sister or some such nonsense before. For the sake of both their sanity, she decided she would never call him uncle smokey.]

I see... I will have to investigate this a bit further then. It could be that some of my companions are here or may have been here in the past.

[... Of course he wants coffee... he never changes.]

I'm at the Cat Eye Cafe, and I'm not certain they sell coffee here.

[She just had to tell him that, just to see what his reaction might be to the prospect of another 'tea party' with her.]

I appreciate your concern Admiral, but it's not simply a matter of whether or not they want my help. There are two sides of justice, and both sides must be fair and balanced if Justice is to be served. If I am not needed as a prosecutor, then I shall offer my services as defender of the people against the system. Being falsely accused is something I am all too familiar with, and something I would not wish to befall anyone caught in the justice system on suspect evidence.

[Her tone became a bit more icy as she spoke. She had respect for Kuzan, but he was absolutely correct in assuming that she was a noble and perhaps even a bit on the arrogant side. She had a very strict moral code and she did not plan to sit idly while she still had the strength and energy of youth to make a difference.]

Perhaps if there is no place for me in the courts, I shall open a tea shop and bide my time until such a position opens. However that is more likely to happen in the lull between cases rather than being any full time position. Any person can make a difference, they simply need the will and the knowledge to do so.

[Grins.] Yeah, that's right. [HAPPY. Totally believes in her now.]

What? They have to. I'll make it myself. [STUBBORN ARM FOLD.]

Were your companions also on the ship?

[HUH. HERE WAS ALL "SILLY PORTGAS NOT REMEMBERING THINGS" and yet he had no idea that he might not remember some things himself. Hot pockets are weird.]

[icy tones have little effect on him; though perhaps this is expected. Just listening to her makes him tired. She is young and like the young in a wild attempt to prove herself and live as much life and follow as much of her passion as possible as if there won't be thirty or forty years down the road.

But ahh well]

I suppose you can suit yourself... But you may not win many friends. [though he suspects she'll say she doesn't care about that and let her justice carry her through any loneliness she might encounter leaving her with a faint inability to connect to others because of the shell she's built around herself]

But...if I could request...? High ceilings and large chairs...

[for your tea shop at least. Or at least one chair. He doesn't even care what kind]

[He's mentally laughing and shipping you both.]

[Because if you both know each other and know him, even if Smoker doesn't recognize Maribelle, this just means he'll do what he wants.]

[first of all, in terms of age, she's a baby. Second of all he will be cool with any kind of chair so long as it isn't made of matchsticks and will collapse under him.]

[Kuzan, he's seen you hit on far younger ladies and with even less maturity.]

[You're just mad because she would totally make you go ballroom dancing.]

[Also watch them both wind up in bean-bag chairs and loathe it.]

Also he can make himself an ice chair if he really needs which is more than he can say for someone who would just end up looking like a genie]

[She's just going to openly giggle at Smoker's arm fold of grump at the very idea that they might not have coffee.]

That was merely a joke for your benefit, I'm certain they can likely accommodate you.

[What kind of a cafe doesn't serve some manner of coffee? Wasn't that in part where the word cafe came from?]

Most of my companions never made it to the world I found myself in. It would likely be easier to search for those who would call themselves the Shepherds, and served the kingdom of Ylisse. M'lord Chrom is the current King, and the shepherds are an elite force he created to patrol the kingdom rather than just his knights.

[Though many of his knights served in the shepherds as well.]

[he is saying a pair of watermelons on a very nice body and suspects you know what he meant and are just being an ass because not even Smoker can be that myopic.

Either way he is clearly not the one in need of help. How is your sticker collection by the way]
