Ask not for whom the bell tolls. Because he has other worries right now

Who: Death and you
When: April 6th
Where: Everywhere seeing as he's sightseeing
What: The most unusual personification of death you will ever see.

You may have just been minding your own business same as always either shopping or working. But all of a sudden you hear a booming voice in your head as deep and echoing as a stone slab sliding shut in the deepest crypt in the bowels of the earth.

"WELL THIS IS TROUBLING. WE SEEM TO HAVE MANAGED TO MISPLACE OURSELVES, BINKY." The voice said however it was hard to tell if it was speaking to the person listening or to itself. Either way if one were to look around for the source they would not see anything. AT least until they would look right up overhead. Then they would see a white steed standing on thin air and on top of it rode a figure clad in a black robe with a hood.

Sudden Booming Voices (tm) are not expected in her head all of a sudden today. It was definitely not part of her usual daily routine. But Sudden Booming Voice it is and Lucy, who's been doing a little light clothes shopping, is caught off guard by it, glancing around wildly until she spots the ... er... speaker.

"W..what..?" What is she even looking at. A..robed man on a horse standing on THIN AIR?

The Winter Queen is familiar with such a creature. Eternal Silence is a different kind of power. She is ancient, this is more so. Lifting her eyes to the creature in the air she sets down her icy glass of lemonade and taps a finger on the table.

It is not in the nature of the sidhe to give answers for free, so she does not correct the ancient creature atop his steed. "Have you?" She asked him, her own power rolling through her voice so that she does not need to shout to be heard. "Are you quite certain?"

"HMMM?" the figure booms and looks around before facing towards the ground. Please do your best not to scream, young lady. Because you might be looking up straight into the gaunt face of a skeleton with blue suns for eyes in a sea of darkness framed by bleached eyesockets.

"OH. YOU CAN SEE ME?"

Oh he sensed her power. That aura of command and royalty. If he had his scythe out on hand at the moment it would have turned into a sword in her presence as was expected when Death was in the presence of royalty. However that was the only effect she could have on him.

He looks down not needing to actually seek out the source of the voice just from the feeling the woman gave off.

"YES I AM. THIS IS NOWHERE NEAR MY HOME. IT IS FAR MORE...COLORFUL....AND ALIVE. AMONG OTHER THINGS."

Well this guy is ... he's...

To her credit Lucy manages NOT to scream. But she does back up a step in dismay - "A... a skeleton..?" She doesn't mean to be rude or anything! You're just freaking her out right now. She almost forgets he even said something about her seeing him, and she stammers a response quickly.

"Y-yes, I can see you.." WHAT IS HOLDING YOU UP.

He tilts his head curiously seeing her reaction. This was odd. Normal mortals should not have been able to see him. At least those were the rules. But rules had a habit of bending and twisting and worse BREAKING oh so very often.

"DOWN BINKY." The figure said and clapped his feet against the side of the white steed to make it float back down to the ground next to Lucy.

"YOU. ARE YOU A WIZARD?"

W-waaah he's coming closer to her level WHY. Maybe she should have pretended not to hear or see him. Drawing notice from creepy people like that never ended well.

Still she wasn't exactly going to turn tail and run. She was a Fairy Tail wizard! ...and his horse is named Binky. That was really adorable and kind of ruined the whole 'terrifying specter' aura he had going on.

"Er -- yes, yes I am. ... ...why?"

Because you never know when to keep out of the attention of beings above your level, Lucy. But don't worry. At the very least he isn't the most dangerous of all to be around.

He brings up a bone hand under his chin as he reflects on her answer. "AH THAT WOULD EXPLAIN WHY YOU CAN SEE ME THEN. HOWEVER FOR A WIZARD YOU CERTAINLY DON'T DRESS LIKE ONE. YOU HAVE NO STAFF OR COLORFUL ROBES OR A BEARD OR A POINTY HAT. BUT YOU ARE CLEARLY NOT A WITCH EITHER."

It's not her fauuuuult! But true, he seemed scary but pretty gosh darn civil actually. And nowhere near as weird as that Skeletor guy.

"Eh?" Don't laugh at him Lucy. Don't. Just. Don't. "W-well, a lot of people say that, actually. But the wizards where I'm from dress normally, rather than the way traditional wizards and witches of old - or in books - are said to dress."

Death was nothing like what most people imagined. He was not all that grim and all of the reaping he did was necessary after a life had run its course. Except that blasted Rincewind who made him chase the wizard from death trap to deathtrap until he was finally granted a new lease on life after helping several new worlds be born.

"AND WHERE EXACTLY DO YOU COME FROM? IT CANNOT BE THE COUNTERWEIGHT CONTINENT. YOU LACK THE NAIVETE OF A...TOURIST I BELIEVE HE CALLED HIMSELF."

Oh ..t... they'd know nothing about death traps or narrowly avoiding death hahaha..haha...h..a.....

Still Lucy was calming down from her initial OSHIWHATISTHAT reaction since the conversation was kind of normal. Or as normal as it could get for that booming voice in her head. "The country of Fiore, in Earthland. My friends and I have been here for a few months though...and it's not the first time for some of us, as far as being pulled to a new world out of the blue like this."

You kids must have visited his Earthland counterpart so many times the poor thing must need therapy with how frustrated he must be with the constant teasing.

"EARTHLAND. HOW INTRIGUING. AND I AM GUESSING YOUR WORLD IS NOT CARRIED ATOP THE BACKS OF FOUR ELEPHANTS RIDING THE SHELL OF A GIANT TURTLE SLOWLY DRIFTING THROUGH THE EMPTINESS OF SPACE." Death went on before narrowing his twin stars for eyes a little.

"NOT THE FIRST TIME YOU SAY?"

She'd feel sorry for the guy..a little...maybe... if she knew! But then she actually likes dodging death and living longer with her friends so that might be selfish of her to not feel as sorry as she should.

"Carried atop..the... is that a metaphor?" It ... sounded like a metaphor. Maybe philosophical or... okay she didn't know. If it wasn't a metaphor she had no idea anyway, if Earthland was carried on four elephants or one giant exceed or what - but she highly doubted it. THat seemed far more over the top then for even them.

"Ah! Well, no. In fact this would actually be the third time something has pulled us to another world."

Well maybe they should play safe a bit more then. Death has a rather busy schedule and he's sure it applies to all his counterparts in other worlds.

"A METAPHOR? NOT AT ALL. IT IS ONE OF THE FIRST TRUTHS LEARNED IN THE DISCWORLD." Honestly he doesn't know why that's so hard to believe. If this really is another world like that note said then it should hardly be surprising that a place such as his own world exists.

"THE THIRD TIME, YOU SAY. SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A KNACK AT ATTRACTING THE ATTENTION OF POWERFUL FORCES."

But but Lucy's tried to get her team to pick nice safe missions before, but noooo. They like the challenge!... also it keeps life interesting so!

"I-- I see. Well if that's the case then I .. really don't know. I've never heard of Earthland being carried on the back of any kind of animal."

That latter comment ohoho, Death you have no idea. Or maybe you do. In either case Lucy grins sheepishly, "Aa, you could say that. I guess it comes from our guild having some of the strongest wizards as part of it. Many times Fairy Tail is requested to help with difficult situations - and sometimes we just happen to be in the right place at the right time." Or wrong place, depending on your perspective.

You mortals are such contradicting creatures. But that's what makes you so fascinating too.

"I SUPPOSE THAT IS TO BE EXPECTED." Though now he was even more curious about Lucy's world. After all it seemed some rules still applied or so he believed at the moment.

"OH. A GUILD THAT ACTUALLY FOCUSES ON HELPING AND GETTING INTO TROUBLE RATHER THAN CAUSING TROUBLE? YOUR WORLD IS FULL OF SURPRISES" The assassin's guild, the thieves guild and all of the smaller guilds that crop up around certain events, None of them worked for the benefit of others but themselves.

Lucy nodded, particularly proud. "Fairy Tail is a 'light' guild dedicated to fulfilling mission requests for help. Mostly they come in from people who don't have magic of their own, but sometimes, for big requests, we work together with other Light Guilds. Although.." She coughs slightly. "I will admit not all of the guilds in Fiore are like ours. There are assassin guilds, and thieves guilds too. They've some of the most troublesome members... and then there are the demons of late."

"OF COURSE. EVERYTHING HAS A BALANCE." He was one of the few who knew how valid this truth actually was. Given he attended both good and evil persons alike, he was the embodiment of that balance. AT the end of the line they were all souls with wants and desires. And in the end they would have to face their choices.

"DEMONS ARE INVOLVED AS WELL? IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR WORLD IS A BUSY PLACE INDEED." But at least it wasn't boring.

It's perhaps one of the hardest truths, knowing that darkness is necessary. She'd like it a lot better if it wasn't. But then, if it wasn't necessary in the world they wouldn't have a job. Course there was a difference between the darkness of assassin's guilds and thieves guilds, and the darkness of people wanting to destroy the world or rule over it. Or bring thousands of dragons in and...

"Yes, it is. But I love it all the same- even though things are dangerous right now, I wouldn't have it any other way."

Death regarded her briefly hearing her answer. Once again the peculiar side of mortals.

"I CAN SEE THAT YOU TRULY MEAN YOUR WORDS. YOUR KIND NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME."

Lucy giggles, "Well I... guess I'm not surprised. Humans are always a little prone to doing unexpected things - some more than others." Hell, her entire -GUILD- seemed to base itself on that fact. She still got surprised by her friends sometimes. "But I'm being a little rude right now aren't I? I haven't even introduced myself."

Now that she's over the OMG shock of seeing him. "I'm Lucy. Nice to meet you --erm..."

Rude? He can't say he feels insulted or slighted in any way. Then again that was a hard thing to accomplish most of the time.

When prompted to introduce himself he tapped his chin with a bony finger.

"I GO BY MANY NAMES. BUT THE MOST COMMON WOULD BE DEATH." The two blue suns blink with an almost unsettling innocence given the claim he had made.

Eep.

"... DEATH?" Whoah now. WHOAH NOW. WHOAH. NOW. "a..ahah, and you said it was something -here- that brought you not... someone right?"

She swears she and her friends are too young to die. Again, in a certain someone's case. *koff*

Why is it that only the dead people don't freak out about him sometimes? Honestly he didn't even have his scythe out at the moment. If he had a face he would be making a suffering and weary expression right now.

"I DID YES. I WAS IN MY DOMAIN JUST ENJOYING A CUP OF TEA AFTER PRUNING THE GARDEN WHEN THE NEXT THING I KNOW I WAS IN A CRAMPED POD OF SOME KIND. LUCKILY IT WOULD SEEM BINKY WAS BROUGHT WITH ME." The robed figure said patting the white steed's main appreciatively to which the animal gave a snort and shook his head lightly.

Because your life ...er, death is suffering, Death. Or something. "You drink...tea..?" And...he gardens. And his horse's name is Binky.

... that may have just caused her What the fuck meter to explode.

"I-I see." Hang on, she's rallying to get her thoughts together again, and ... seriously, /BINKY/? That was too adorable a name. And Death rides him.

Maybe this is a very surreal dreams. Surreptitiously she pinched herself on the inner arm. "Ite.." Nope, not a dream. "Well.. I ... guess that shouldn't be that surprising now that I think about it. I mean.. I met a poltergeist the other day, and there's a God -- or was -- here. I haven't seen her in some time though."

No it's not. He doesn't go around killing people willy nilly. He follows the rules just the same as every other metaphysical servant of order.

"YES. ALBERT MAKES AMAZING TEA." Yes he has a buttler/servant named Albert. No he is not also called Batman.

He tilted his head curiously when Lucy pinched herself but didn't comment on that since the topic of a God came up.

"A GOD FROM ANOTHER WORLD? MY THE ONES RUNNING THIS PLACE CERTAINLY HAVE NO SCRUPLES IN WHO THEY CHOOSE." How troubling.

He has a butler named Albert. ....

Of course he does! WHY NOT? She kind of wondered if the others would even believe her if she told them about this encounter. It just seemed.. TOO FANTASTICAL.

Oh wait, he's talking again. "Y-yes, It's kind of surprising that whatever power is responsible for all of us being here, that they were even able to pull a God -and- yourself. That just seems impossible if I didn't see it for myself. Although I don't know what religion she's God of - she doesn't speak, except with these videophones."

Well if they didn't, she would just have to introduce him to the others.

"A MUTE GOD? THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT ONE FROM MY WORLD THEN. THE CLOSEST THING IS BLIND IO."

At least now she knew he liked tea, so ...even if he doesn't eat (what does Death eat anyway) she'd be able to be a good hostess and make some tea for him if she did.

"Ours either - but we've never met any actual Gods there. Just people who claimed to be such." Egocentric jerks. "Blind Io?"

Mab has no desire to try to control Death. She simply keeps him busy on occasion. Job security.

"Yes, I imagine it is." She sips her lemonade and eyes his horse appreciatively. The beast is impressive. "It is interesting that your steed was also transported." And there's that underlying hint of annoyance in her tone because her vassal was not included in her own journey. If not the Leanansidhe at least Grimalkin would have been useful. She is currently making due with some helpful young girls.

"Perhaps it is time to grow accustomed to abiding with more color?"

As a matter of fact he did like to eat. Even if it wasn't necessary. He apparently enjoyed the taste.

"AH YES. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE WHO TRIES TO CLAIM THAT KIND OF SEAT AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD ONLY TO HAVE IT PULLED OUT FROM UNDER HIM IN THE END." Hero types were usually the ones to do it. He's seen it happen so many times it's akin to a play from time to time.

"YES HE IS A GOD FROM MY WORLD. ONE OF MANY HOWEVER HE IS ONE OF THE BIGGER PLAYERS IN THE GAME OF DESTINY."

That horse is his loyal companion as well as the final result of his search for a worthy steed. One that did not need its parts tied back together every so often nor one who would set fire to whatever stable he tied it to.

"I SUPPOSE I CANNOT COMPLAIN IN THAT REGARD YES." Oh he saw that annoyance. rather hard not. Mortals were quite easy to read for the Reaper.

"I AM NOT SURE I SHOULD THINK OF IT LIKE THAT. I HAVE A WORLD TO TEND TO AND MY ABSENCE WOULD CAUSE QUITE A STIR."

One would think death would be a better judge of immortality.

Her cool response to the final statement speaks of someone who has already had to come to terms with not being able to leave. Her anger has not cooled at being held in such a place away from her own duties. "Catastrophic results have yet to make a difference in this place about who is being held."

"Exactly. Which is a good thing for a lot of people that there are others who will protect innocent people and take down megalomaniacs like that."

A pause, because it still is a little WEIRD to her to be having such a casual, relaxed conversation with Death of all pe-- entities. "So.. you're familiar with wizards? Are there guilds where you're from too?"

... or not so much where he was FROM as uh... you know.

[Laharl, who will just be lounging around a sweet shop will just open one eye and make a face.]

...The hell kind of name is Binky?

"INDEED. SUCH PEOPLE ARE NECESSARY TO THE WORLD. JUST AS MUCH AS I AM." Death certainly didn't hate his job but he wasn't the type to enjoy the death of others. It was a duty only he could perform to keep things in balance and to prevent an invasion of the undead into the world.

"I AM. THEY ARE ONE OF THE FEW WHO HAVE THE PRIVILEGE TO SEE ME AT THE TIME OF THEIR DEPARTURE." That and they loved to summon him at inopportune moments like in the middle of a party.

"THERE ARE GUILDS THOUGH WIZARDS PREFER THE CASTE SYSTEM AS WELL AS THE UNSEEN UNIVERSITY. THERE THEY SHARPEN THEIR POWERS WHILE ALSO PLOTTING TO ADVANCE UP THE RANKS BY ELIMINATING THE PERSON ABOVE THEM."

He was immortal and were it not for his duty he would find it dreadfully boring.

"I SEE. THAT IS TROUBLING. BUT I SUPPOSE WORRYING ABOUT IT AT THIS POINT IN TIME IS USELESS." Death wasn't a grim fellow. Surely things wouldn't go too far down the path to hell. There were plenty of interesting mortals there to try keep the seams together.

[Death will simply look down form his perfectly normal and actually quite beautiful white steed.]

A NAME LIKE ANY OTHER. BESIDES IT WAS WHAT HE LIKED FROM THE START.

...You'd think the Grim Reaper would have a more epic name for his horse.

[Not that he's going to change the horse's name now.]

In places like this, being immortal likely will be boring. Mab generally has much more to keep her occupied in her own world and it makes immortality less tedious. Death would understand a Purpose. But perhaps it is time Death had a vacation.

"Yes. Worrying is useless. Even so, I find it difficult not to be annoyed." Death is a better sport about this than she is.

Wait..wizards get to see Death himself? Oh oh, can they summon him in the middle of a Fairy Tail party?

Wait.. no. That'd be a terrible idea. Lucy would invite him properly instead. Except their next part would probably be a pool party and no one wants to see Death in speedos.

"By elimi... you mean they assassinate them?" What ever happened to good, clean, hard work and promotions by recognition of said hard work?

A normal invitation would be a refreshing change. Not that the ritual of Ashkente was known to Lucy and her friends so yanking him away at their whim wouldn't occur. And he would not give them the instructions for it anyway.

"YES. THE ONLY WAY TO CLIMB UP THEIR HIERARCHY IS TO FILL THE SHOES OF THOSE BEFORE YOU. EVEN IF YOU MUST EMPTY THEM FIRST."

That's all right, Lucy wouldn't want to use it anyway. She'd think it was too rude. "That seems a bit...excessive..." She shook her head. Then again, it might well be one of the more normal means of advancing through ranks in some guilds back home, so who was she to judge?

She glanced away from the specter to look at his horse, mulling the name over in her head again. Binky seemed so ... strange a name for a horse that he'd ride! "It's funny, I would have thought you would have a black horse to ride." That's how the saying goes anyway!
