[Audio] / [Action] By the Bay

[Regaining consciousness was odd for the high school boy. After having experienced, perhaps the worst thing in his life, his new setting felt serene, majestic, nothing like where he was before.]

Did I…die? [Again.]

[He wondered. Ryuuji didn't notice the box on his chest before sitting up. After having felt it land on his lap did he pay any attention to it.

Okay. This is weird. First a hotel that tries to kill you and now a starter kit to this Genessia city.

Then it hit him.]

LUKE!

[The teen was almost certain the redhead was with him, but it was hard to tell because he went in and out of consciousness due to being sick. It was night…and he really didn't remember any of what happened. Maybe he did die again. Either way the redhead was nowhere to be found, maybe he should utilize this videophone.

Ryuuji found himself outside of the Bay, though still horribly confused.]

[Transmission]

So this…Genessia place…is nowhere near California, is it--or Japan for that matter?

[Not that I've ever heard of Genessia either.]

And has anyone seen a red haired, fair skinned guy? He has green eyes and is about 165cm tall? His name is Luke. I was kind of…with him before I came here.

[I hope he's okay.]

Sorry for bothering you with my questions. I just have no idea what's going on.

[(Luke)]

[The redhead had awakened with a start.

Although his memories were fuzzy, his thoughts were racing. Where had he been? What had he been doing? What…had happened?]

…

[Reading the pamphlet answered the question of where he currently was. The other items were surprisingly informative, as well (it was a good thing there were instructions with the device). His chest tightened as it sunk in. He was in yet another strange place…?

Then, suddenly, without a thought--]

Takasu!

[Ryuuji- Was he okay? Last Luke remembered, he'd been incredibly sick. He needed to find him, damn it! Within minutes he was up, feet moving before he'd even consciously told them to. It wasn't long afterward that he heard a familiar voice. Steps freezing, he listened to the words, eyes widening as they landed on the source. The dark-haired teenager was talking on the weird device, and standing only feet away.]

You're okay!

[Ryuuji may have not needed to use the network had he realized they were brought together, just not at the same time. After living through the Californian hotel, the change of pace seemed…less dangerous.]

Luke you're okay!

[He was glad. So glad! It must have been a heavy burden having to worry about him with how sick he was. Strangely enough though, Ryuuji felt completely fine. Maybe even better now than when he was back in the hotel.]

[In spite of everything, he still managed a smile at the other teen. Because, he's beyond happy to see that Ryuuji's okay.

...Er...wait.]

You're...not sick, anymore? [Not that's he's complaining, of course.]

Even if it were near California or Japan or wherever, there's a big chance that it wouldn't even be your California or Japan or wherever. There are a lot of different worlds out there.

I'm not--at least I don't feel like I am?

[He feels fine in that regard.]

What about you? What happened?

I [pause] I know.

[He was only there for two months, but that was two months longer than he could stand.]

Back in California, it was the year 1969, and a lot of people came from strange places I've never heard of, or places I have, but with different history.

Well, you look a million times better than you did... [There's a relieved smile, until he's asked about himself.

Well, he feels fine. But, as far as what happened...?]

I'm fine...but...I have no idea what happened. I woke up in some strange place, with this stuff. [He holds up the necklace and device, then reaches to scratch at the back of his head.] ...Maybe we should look around.

You've just won the award for being the oldest person I met here in Genessia. I knew a couple of older people from before, but the only people here I knew from long ago here are from the 80's.

..Though no one seems to be able to tell me what year it is here so it might not actually be a long time ago.

[Ryuuji rubbed the back of his neck anxiously. He honestly was so out of it, he barely remembered any of what happened. It was unsettling to think about.]

That's how I woke up. I think we're in another place, like before.

[Not exactly good news.]

I think you misunderstood me. I'm not from the 60s.

[Far from actually.]

I was pulled from my home, in Japan, to some strange hotel in California. We we told it was the year 1969 and the guy who ran the hotel was trying to build some utopia where everyone could live happily.

[To say it went horribly wrong, was an understatement.]

Strange things happened…at night… [He didn't really want to talk about it because it brought back bad memories.] Before I knew it, I woke up here--wherever here is.

[Luke's case was a little different- mainly in the sense that he was refusing to think about any of what happened. Mainly for the sake of focusing on the situation at hand.]

...Another place, huh?

[That resulted in his features darkening somewhat. If they really were in another place, that meant there was a chance they'd just continue winding up in different places.

Until...what? Until when? Seriously, what the hell was even going on? A thought occurred to him, and he was reaching behind him- his sword...

So...they returned it?

He looked down at the pamphlet and pack of money.]

Think it's real? I mean...the last place pretty much tricked us. [Pause.] I think we should stay on our guards, alright? ...Stay close.

[Ryuuji didn't really want Luke to worry like that, but he could be right in thinking it was dangerous. The teen was just so relieved to be out of the hotel he didn't think this place to be something they should fear.]

It's possible?

[We don't have any way of knowing.]

They want us to work, and be part of the community. It's what they pamphlet said.

Guess we'll just have to wait and find out. [A sigh of somewhat defeat is given, then.]

Hm...Well, let's go check it out, then.

[There's nothing else they can do, right?]

I really do hope this place doesn't turn out to be like that hotel, though.

[The thought of Genessia being like where they were before sent chills up his spine. He wasn't equipped to deal with things like that. Sure, things got pretty bad back in his world, but they were never that bad.]

We don't have any other leads to work with.

[The dark haired teen kept close to Luke, though not too close. He wasn't clingy, just a little uneasy.]

[ This wasn't Tataroo Valley, and it was certain that none of the landmarks appear to be anything she's seen in Auldrant. The cocoons were already giving her an eerie feeling as the woman walked around.

She was just there moments ago, about to return to the Baticul when she was brought here. There were a lot of things in her mind that were cloudy as she walked about.

She heard voices when she started walking in a certain direction and kept following towards the voice to figure out what was going on. ]

[The replica is in the middle of scratching his head in thought when he glances up in time to see............

Luke's steps literally come to a hard stop and he can only stare for a moment. Just as they'd rounded a corner, he and Ryuuji are suddenly face-to-face with--]

T...ear...?

[For a moment, he looks as though he just saw a ghost.]

[Ryuuji had taken a step or two more before coming to stop since Luke had done so abruptly. To him, the girl was foreign. She seemed to be a friends of Luke's though.]

Is she from your world?

So you time traveled into a horror movie.

[ That's what it sounds like to her. Well, the start of some kind of horror movie anyway. ]

[Yeah, he's probably as excited about that idea as Ryuuji...

Luke nods and begins walking, green eyes scanning the area carefully. His hands are by his sides, though are more than ready to reach back for the blade if the need arises.]

...Yeah, I definitely don't recognize this place. [He says with a sigh after they've been walking for a little while- the area outside of the cavern was just as unfamiliar. Sigh.]

This pamphlet says we should get jobs. Maybe we could try the registration place. People might be there if everyone got the same message?

[Did Luke even read it? Ryuuji wasn't sure, but his was already out an open so he handed his copy to Luke.]

I guess that's one way to put it.

[His life started to sound like a badly written fanfiction in that case]

[Well, he did read it, but it still all sounded way too unbelievable. It was more like he was refusing to fully accept any part of it.

He's never been known as being the best at adjusting, after all.]

Oh...right... [His voice sounded kind of far away as he took the pamphlet and read it over, ...once again. The first time he'd kind of just skimmed it, anyway.]

Sorry, guess I'm still having trouble believing all of it.

[Is Luke trying to say he had an easier time believe the crazy hotel that not only tried to kill him, but was successful in doing so?

Granted this setting was surreal in comparison, but it was closer to what Ryuuji was use to.]

[Well, considering how long it had taken him to accept that he wasn't already dead in that hotel...

Right as he'd started to accept that place had genuinely kidnapped him from Auldrant, he got swept off to another world?

This is not something that will easily sink in.]

Well...maybe, a little. [He offers Ryuuji an apologetic smile.] Even back on Auldrant, I always had to fight to live...

[Ryuuji hadn't forgotten what Luke has shared. It was something Ryuuji never had to experience in his own world and he quickly learned in the hotel that he wasn't capable of survival in a world where you had to fight to survive.

It made his heart sink a little when Luke said that. Naturally Ryuuji wanted to make him feel better.]

So wouldn't be nice to stay here? [Wait no. He didn't mean to word it like that.]

I mean.

[Let's try this again.]

Who knows? You might end up liking it here. If all we have to do is work and make ends meet. It's kind of like how I lived back home.

[Except his mom did all of the working.]

It can't be that bad, right?

[There's a pause as he takes in those words. Once Ryuuji's finished talking, Luke offers him a smile.]

...Heh. Thanks, Takasu. [He nods.] If this world isn't lying to us, then...maybe you're right. In fact, I hope you are.

[Maybe, considering what happened to him, last, on his own world...

...he just isn't meant to return. Maybe what's happening to him is to spare him of his fate back home?

Not like he'll find out, at this rate.]
