[Karla begins her feed, looking contemplative.]

Hmm...I am curious about something. Many people here have some sort of...super powers or special abilities...whatever you happen to call them. How does one develop those abilities? Is one born with them, or are they developed through training? We have mages in my world...but they are not fighters.

[It feels strange to be asking this. Back home, she wouldn't have even given these abilities a single thought. Hell, even without powers, her strength had been considered "inhuman" to the normal population. But here, with people like Battler and Freeza, she realizes she's at a severe disadvantage.]

Would it be possible for one like me to learn these...special powers, to augment my skill with the sword? If not, I suppose I'll have to step up my skill alone...practice fighting against opponents with such abilities.

...Thank you for your time.

I ate a fruit.

"Born", I think, tends to explain them, or else something so unique to their respective worlds that it may as well be genetic.

You might acquire such an unusual talent, though I wouldn't recommend it. Such things tend to have a cost, and a pretty dear one at that. It might be better to find allies who can augment you through their own complementary talents instead. Seems to be what Gestalt's all about, after all.

I cannot speak of all worlds, but my own magic is inherited by blood.

You are a swordswoman, miss?

[Luffy doesn't see it. Luffy doesn't see a lot of things really.]

Yeah. It's called the gum-gum fruit. I'm a rubber man now.

I don't know about super powers, that seems a bit fantastical to me to be honest. As far as abilities go though, people are either born with talent, or aren't. There's nothing you can do about it. No amount of work will ever change a person without any.

If you already have one though, you should just focus on that.

Ha, it's hard not to with as many adventures as the world embroils one in. Oh, the manifold marvels I've seen. All, to my knowledge, very unique to their persons.

But I can't be intemperate in optimism; some were made to pay a heavy price, making it a gift as well as a curse. On the whole it seems something to leave to fate.

[As for his own nonsense, best keep quiet]

I see. There are more people skilled with swordplay than I had first imagined here.

[ She smiles a little softly. ]

It... May take a long time, but perhaps you would do me the honour of sparring with me once I can get back on my feet? I have practiced swordplay since I was younger, though I have not been able to as much recently.

I think it depends. Um, in my world, nearly everyone is born with chakra. And it's up to the person as to whether or not they develop it. But one of my friends... He wasn't born with chakra, but he still trained his hardest in what he could. And he's one of the greatest taijutsu users I know of.

So, I... I don't think you need to have special abilities in order to be on the same level as someone with them.

I was born with the potential to have them, but I didn't get them until I was near my teens.

It's incredibly rare for someone to be born with special abilities where I'm from. I don't know how it is for the magicians of your world, but for mine, the vast majority gained their abilities through hard work. In fact, magic was created as a way to imitate those who possessed such talent.

[Touma gives her an inquisitive look.]

Is there a reason you're seeking power?

Magic used to be a huge thing in ancient times in my world, but now to have those abilities, ya gotta either be genetically engineered or have access to magic crystals, which can be used to augment weapons.

Oh, sorry! [She blushes] It's, um, a force of habit, I guess? I'm just used to using them.

But anyway, um... Chakra is very similar to our life energy. But we also create it when we combine our physical and mental energies together. Or that's the short version, anyway. Taijutsu is really just... martial arts. Just a sort of blanket term for it anyway. Your use of a sword would fall under it, too.

If only they worked that way. I'm what is classified as a Mutant in my world. We have a gene that regular humans don't have. When the gene becomes active, we can develop powers and or physically change. Though some can be born with the gene already active. It is possible for it never to activate. Though most do active around puberty. Sometimes other events can trigger them like trauma or stress.
