Action - the bae (bay)
[ another day, another new arrival. this one comes in the form of a small elf with long, white hair, dark blue-tinted skin, and bright pulsing leylines that curve over every inch of exposed skin. she looks... confused, to no one's surprise, as she stares both at the hologram and at the strange device given to her earlier. the clear signs of a newbie, though this one looks more curious than alarmed by what's happening.
after a moment of staring dumbly at the phone, the elf puts it in her pocket and fixes her attention instead on someone nearby. nothing and no one looks familiar, but she isn't shy when she approaches the closest person and asks: ]
Excuse me, do you have a moment?
Action - wherever man
[ with some questions answered (or not), lioriley has decided to try and navigate through the city(s) and better acquaint herself with the layout of the world. It's... going pretty well? she's only gotten lost three times!!! though it probably doesn't help that she continuously gets distracted by something new and interesting that catches her eye. at some point she's looking at the map, not really focusing on anything around her when she bumps her shoulder into someone. jerking back, she looks up. ]
Ah - forgive me, I was not paying attention. Are you all right?

[Not the most hopeful answer, but Rude figures if he can spare someone else the fruitless search he'd made, it doesn't hurt.
Of course, he also knows how he'd take such an answer, which is why he continues.]
Can show you where it is, though. If you want.
[And he's leaving that open to whether she takes that as showing on the map or showing her to the building itself. Which surprises him a little, because he's not normally one to be so openly willing - call it intrigue, and the fact he doesn't have so much to do right now anyway.
And heck, if anyone asks? Maybe he's just curious to see if he missed anything the first time around.]

she almost doesn't expect the offer to guide her to the library. and it earns a bright smile from the elf - as well as a significant change in her physical appearance: leylines across her cheeks sparking with color. ]
Would you? I would greatly appreciate it! I may be less likely to get lost along the way if I had a proper guide. [ she cocks her head to the side. ] Can I have your name as well?
no subject
[He hasn't been here anything like long enough to have looked at every book, especially not with work and a wayward redhead to contend with.
And oh, that spark of colour is different. The glow is reminiscent of a few things from home, but this is something he's still never seen before and it's a little fascinating.
So fascinating, in fact, he answers her question without being quite so careful with it as he normally might, still a touch distracted because they don't have people like her back home, he's pretty sure.]
Rude.
[Wait.]
My name.
[He clears his throat, then, turning with a slight tick of a nod to bid her follow him because he's pretty sure he can recover from this still. With any luck, his natural inexpressiveness will cover for him as it normally does.]

it's difficult to tell that he's staring, what with the glasses covering his eyes, but one can usually tell when someone has their eyes on them. either way, the elf makes no obvious indication that she notices, and decides to just brush it off. ]
'Tis a pleasure, Rude. I am Lioriley. [ she bows, a hand sweeping over her chest with the gesture. as she straightens, she moves to follow. ] Might I ask how long you have been here?
no subject
[It's an easy conclusion to come to when he's worked for a company so adept at hiding things. Whether those hidden truths are hidden for the benefit of those in charge or those brought here is another matter, and one he doesn't foresee finding an answer to any time soon.]
Lioriley.
[He doesn't spare many words, now as ever. But there's a subtle warmth to his tone as he sounds out the unfamiliar name, committing it to memory and telling himself it's in case one or other ends up finding something significant at the library.
Speaking of, they should get on to finding that. So he'll lead the way, letting conversation - whatever passes for it, for him - continue as they walk.]
Couple of weeks. Mostly spent here and in Nova City...you know about the different areas?
[He can't quite remember if the welcome spiel goes into that much detail.]
no subject
she smiles again as he repeats her name, seemingly pleased by his ability to pronounce it correctly on the first try. good job.
the elf steps to his side as not to make the journey to awkward as they speak. ]
I know of them, very vaguely. I have only been here a few hours so I have not had the chance to explore much at all. Are all of the areas as large as this one?
no subject
Especially when abduction to another world is involved.
The next sound to come is one that's a little more uncertain, in response to the question about location.]
Ones I've seen look to be. Figured I'd learn my way around those before venturing any further.
[Rude likes to know his way around a place, including the paths less trodden. All product of his job, that often has needed him to know at least three routes to the same place as well as how to shut down all but one of them if necessary and which ones to shut down.]
no subject
[ better that she learn the lay of the land as soon as possible, lest she have a repeat of today. that, and she thinks it's only logical to be more aware of her new surroundings - to find what parts may prove to be dangerous, and what areas are safe. ]
You said you spent some time in Nova city. What is it that has you there more often than the others, besides idle exploration?
no subject
Which is perhaps why he's not in so much of a rush to get them to the library as he otherwise might be, though he'll insist his slower pace is to make sure she can keep up.
As to the answer to her question? It's a simple one, though one he'll elaborate on a little in an attempt at being more conversational than he usually manages.]
Work. Most of the better security jobs are around there.
[And he doubts she'll be too surprised that he's sought work in security, even if it isn't an exact parallel to what he really used to do.]
no subject
[ she cocks her head to the side, giving rude another once-over before deciding that, yes, that seems like a suitable line of work for someone of his stature. not that she knows anything about his fighting prowess, or anything else besides "he's big and quiet and looks like he could snap me in half with his pinky finger." but it's doubtful he would have sought such a job if he weren't skilled in such subjects. ]
Is that what you did back in your world?
no subject
[There are other things he could probably do if he put his mind to it, but why overlook what's suited him well enough in the past? Especially when he's also had to consider what will allow him to keep an eye on Reno and what sorts of jobs Reno would be suited for and so when opportunity presented it, Rude took it.
Somehow he suspects that won't be her thing.]
How about you? What'll you be looking for?
[Because even if they have their suspicions about the place, he's gathered enough to recognise they'll have to play along with building a life here in the meantime.]
no subject
to his question, the elf directs her attention upward, silently contemplating her answer. honestly? she's not really sure. ]
Teaching, perhaps. Though I know not if any here will need magic or reading lessons. I would also like to find somewhere to put my healing abilities to use. [ she laughs. ] I had not really thought about it! I am open to suggestions, though.
no subject
[He's mostly joking, though whether that comes across is another matter, through the dry tone and the lack of anything resembling clear amusement in his expression - at least for those who don't know better. Either way, he'd never actually seek to impose on someone unless he absolutely had to.
Still, there's the faintest distinction between how he says that and how he says what comes next that might take care of that well enough.]
Sounds like you shouldn't have a problem. Newspaper seems to have a jobs section if you need somewhere to start.
[And hopefully the library would have copies on file.]
no subject
Mm. I will be sure to take a look when I get the chance. Hopefully something will suit my needs well enough.
no subject
[He'd offer to show her directly but he doesn't want to impose his company on her and especially when she'll likely want to take her time at the library and won't appreciate him hovering - even if he could easily fill the time himself.
Writing down directions for her seems a fair compromise, in that respect.
They're almost at the library by the time he offers his next comment, a final bid towards encouragement even if it's not what he's best at.]
Can't imagine skills as broad as yours going to waste.
no subject
[ likewise, she would ask if he could accompany her directly — but she can't be certain he doesn't have other business to tend to elsewhere, or if she's taking up too much of his time already. when it comes down to it, maybe she'll ask.
for now, the library is in sight and there's a significant, very obvious, hint of excitement in the elf. her leylines glow a little brighter again, her smile widening. ]
You are too kind. [ she nods to the building up ahead. ] Is that it?
no subject
They both have their own things to do. But he'd offered his assistance, so he can at least make sure she has a means to get to her place safely. And perhaps street names and landmarks will serve her better than the map seems to have so far.]
no subject
halfway down an aisle, the elf turns to look at him - expression curious, as if silently asking: Aren't you coming? ]
no subject
But then he feels that gaze on him, realises she's waiting on him - and responds with a slight shake of his head before elaborating.]
Don't wait on me. I'll find you when I'm done with the directions.
[And he doesn't really want to end up in her way while she gets used to the library here.]
