Re: That's fair

[If she was clumsy, Ted would hardly notice, though he's tempted to think more "monkey" than "dog" with that kind of playful agility.]

"Excellent, thank you. Heh, do you? It won't spoil anything, will it? I wouldn't want to convert you to 'sightseer' too quickly. Show, don't tell, is the way these things go, isn't it? Well, maybe just a few facts.

The first thing about him is that he's a smiler. If one were to be a bore, they might claim that a smile to humanity, or whatever other races can smile, might mean something very different to him, if it means anything. Of course, I know what the poets wrote: "all that interests man is man"; meaning our tendency to see ourselves in everything. We've never really seen a tree, but a man-tree. Still, that's no crime. Seeing things in a mannish way, if it is a sin, seems a most charming peccadillo. You mean merriment when you smile, don't you Tektite?

Well, however omnipresent humanity, I still say he smiles for the same reason: because he is happy. Or at least...naughty. Heh, I might have to show you another one; he's likely to try and play a trick on you or spook you out of your wits. Loves to joke. I wish he could tell jokes, but he prefers the practical variety above all others.

He also loves darkness. Excuse me, shadows, which depend on light. For that I believe he is not a bad creature, all told, despite his mischief. In fact, he often resides in mine. You'll know if you see it making impossible shapes; another way he likes to play. You'll also know he's near if you feel things take on a twinge of chill. Handy beast to have in the summer.

What else...oh, he loves spicy food. So much he refuses to eat anything else. If you'd like to befriend him straightaway, that's probably your best bet. That or show him your nerves; he loves to get a rise out of people."
