Maybe the mascot-chans were supposed to give us something? Or...maybe they did and we just didn't realise it?
[It's the only thing Ibuki can think of, that what they'd given back was in fact what had been given up to allow them to proceed.]
Let's go back and see if the mascot-chans will mind us taking those things back.
