Briefing 6 | [Log]
Who: Blaze, Ayame Sasaki & David Jordan
What: Forcing Blaze to take sick leave... finally.
Where: Genessia City
When: Mid-day, October 11
Warnings: Germs. Germs and denial. But probably nothing worse than that.
[Blaze was sick. He wasn't going to admit it to himself, but he was definitely sick.
He'd been a relatively busy man for a while, especially during and following the bizarre disease that spread from Attleton to the other cities and having to go into an eccentric amusement park to get the issues cleared up. And there was also the recent arson case he had to fine the perpetrators for at said amusement park. That was weird. He also didn't appreciate the fact that with the last two newspaper deliveries, the paperboy had it out for him. He really was lucky that he was used to dodging high speed objects.
He did at least have a little more free time now. The unfortunate disappearance of Yui meant that he didn't have a class to attend at night anymore, and he managed to get his time at the library cut back to part time so he didn't have to figure out how to figure out how manage two full time jobs... because that one was proving impossible unless he wanted to spend more time sleeping at either the Guardian's office or the library. Neither of which were a good thing. Up until this point, it seemed like he paid for his apartment in Attleton for his cat.
But even with more free time meant just more time working in Attleton. He never really thought much about bounty hunters before, they were just kind of there, but he did have a newfound appreciation for them for being able to take up the jobs that he didn't have a chance to. He had work to do in the office, multiple daily patrols (especially around the Midnight Channel subarchway, as after Levy had vanished, her barrier blocking the other world was down), and a fair share of petty crimes he'd stopped before they could be carried out.
At least despite all that, he still found time to maintain himself and eat. Though he probably was low on sleep these days. With his days in the Osean Air Defense Force came many interrupted and sleepless nights, and waking up at the slightest of sounds. But this was just routine to him, and something he was very used to, or at least so he'd thought.
Earlier in the day, Blaze had to chase down a thief that had attempted to flee the scene in Attleton, even having to go so far as to knock out the man with his tranquilizer pistol. That'd taken more energy out of him when he found himself low on it as it was, but that came with the territory he figured. He was elected for this job for a reason, and he wanted to ensure that peoples' faith in him wasn't misplaced. What he didn't realize was that kind of mindset coupled with how he never got a break during the Circum-Pacific War practically turned him into a workaholic. He almost felt obligated that he had to be doing something at this point.
Now he was walking in Genessia City, likely to do his work in the library. Due to his physical condition, he made the conscious decision to not take his motorcycle this time, and opting to walk as opposed to becoming a potential hazard on the road. Despite feeling rather light headed, he was carrying himself rather well, though closer inspection still showed he didn't look too great. Even when he'd be asked if he was alright by the people in both cities, he insisted he was fine but thanked them for their concern. He was definitely fine! You know, even with the occasional coughing fit. And the sore throat. And the all around fatigue...
Someone needs to knock some sense into the clearly sick man. Or knock him out. Either one.]

Someone needs to knock some sense into the clearly sick man. Or knock him out. Either one.]

On the day that Blaze decided to take his stroll, Ayame is also out and about for new spots to try out. With parasol in hand providing her shade from the mid-day sun, and wearing clothes to fit the changing seasons, Ayame senses Blaze's familiar aura from a block over. Since she was heading towards the same direction, she might as well say hi. Ayame decided to intercept him, seeing a sickly Blaze stop at a crosswalk. Ayame is naturally pretty sneaky, so it wouldn't be surprising if her presence catches Blaze by surprise. She stands next to him, just looking for the crosswalk signal to change and decide to wait a few seconds to say something ]
For a sick man, you sure are doing a lot of walking in the cold.

Though Thirteen long since got more appropriate clothing for the town than his flight suit, he still was wearing his leather flight jacket. Also, he appeared to be carrying a freshly-purchased six-string guitar, still in its box. He waved as he drew closer.]
Blaze! Hey, are you okay? You look like you got run over by a bus.
no subject
A-Ah! Miss Ayame-
[Then he heard another familiar voice. He unconsciously held the front of his jacket closed in one hand when Ayame's words fully sunk in while he looked over at Thirteen.]
A-and Major Jordan!
[Yep, he let the usual 'respect the superior' military talk slip out this time. He smiled nervously as he looked between the two. The amount of attention he seemed to be getting from people today was a little unusual. If not a bit unnerving, in a way.]
No, I'm fine. I'm just having a bit of an off day.
[He says as his voice starts to crack towards the end of that sentence, prompting him to audibly clear his throat. 'Off day' was one way of putting it.]
no subject
[ Ayame simply narrows her eyes at Blaze at his reaction, observing the signs of his "off" day. Standing beside him with her hands holding her parasol, she watched David's arrival and Blaze's immediate reaction before adding to what David said ]
The Major is right.
[ Do pardon her as she presses the back of her hand against your forehead Blaze. A fever may be likely, but she needed the skin-to-skin contact to get a good read of his internal workings, and see where in imbalance in his energy fields are ]
You could say that bus also reversed and run you over for a second time, calling this an off day is an understatement.
no subject
A fever, Miss Ayame?
[His gaze fell on his fellow pilot.]
Blaze, what are you doing out here in this condition?
no subject
I'm fine, it's nothi- [He cut himself off as he quickly turned his head away to have a coughing fit into his shoulder. With a soft "Ugh" he slowly looked back to them.] ... It's a minor bug.
I have to be out. I still have work to do. I can't slack on my Guardian duties, and my shift at the library is starting soon.
[It actually starts in an hour, but he tends to show up early if he can.]
no subject
My, if I had a penny...
[ Ayame shakes her head, giving David a short glance before it shifts back to Blaze. Her eyes showed a look of concern ]
You have no fever, but an overworked Guardian is no Guardian. When was the last time you had a decent amount of sleep? In your condition, I doubt you'll even make a decent librarian today. Not to mention you could get other people sick to work in a place handling books that everyone shares.
no subject
Couldn't have said it better. She's right, Blaze. You look like you're barely holding it together even getting to work, let alone actually working.
Don't get me wrong. I admire your work ethic, but most jobs give you sick days for a reason.
no subject
Yes, I guess you're right.
[Well hey, maybe convincing him wouldn't be that difficult after a-]
I probably should head back to the Guardian's office. There's more that needs done there anyway.
[Nevermind.]
I suppose taking a day off from the library won't hurt. I can just make up for those hours on another day.
no subject
Blaze...
[ Ayame warned. She didn't want to be too forceful, but if she can help someone out from doing anything that could land them in a hospital, she will. She wants to wait for David's input on how to deal with this man, since they seem to know each other more than she knows Blaze. But if Blaze remains stubborn, all it takes for Ayame to get him to rest is a touch of her finger in the right pressure point. ]
no subject
No, Blaze. You're not getting it. What you should be doing is going home and getting some rest. And you shouldn't worry about making up missed hours either.
I understand and respect your dedication to duty as a Guardian. But part of your duty in being a leader of an entire town is to make sure you're in the shape to do so to the best of your ability. If you keep pushing yourself, you're going to break down, and then you'll be out of commission and useless for even longer than you would be if you just rested now.
It's not a sign of weakness to take a break when you need one, especially when you have a deputy who can take over for a couple of days. So quit with the tough guy routine. It won't do you any favors in the long haul.
no subject
Wow, he hasn't been drilled into this badly since he was stationed at Sand Island.
He visibly winced. They both had very clear points, and Blaze knew as much. He probably would eventually become more a hindrance than a help if he kept this up. Still... "break" wasn't in his vocabulary, and he had the war to thank for that.]
I'm not playing tough guy.
[He just... felt like objecting to that line in specific first. He couldn't... really argue anything else in that. He knew that if Nagase had been here, she'd probably have strapped him to the bed by now to make him take a break or something.]
Maybe you're both right, but I don't want to leave Dante alone to manage everything by himself. This isn't really a job that a guy can do solo.
no subject
[ Ayame nods in agreement towards David after hearing his words. She looks to Blaze once more with her stern expression softening slightly ]
I don't know your deputy and what his capabilities are, but anyone would prefer to cover for a couple of days than a couple of weeks.
[ Ayame pauses, taking her hand off her hip now that Blaze is being reasonable. ]
Since I have no prior engagement, I'll help you in whatever way I can while you're resting.
no subject
If it's more than a one person job and you need more hands, I'm not doing much of anything. I would be willing to support Dante while he takes the reins until you recover. Just tell me what you need me to do, all right?
no subject
I couldn't ask you two to do that for me.
[He wanted to just leave it at that, but he's got a gut feeling they might not take no for an answer. Having extra pairs of hands to help Dante even temporarily would be beneficial though... He was hesitant, but it might be best if he conceded defeat to these two.]
But... if you're sure, I couldn't possibly say no. I'll make sure you're both paid for it.
[And there he quickly covers his mouth with his arm to start coughing again. This dizzy spell wasn't really doing him any favors either.]
no subject
My, you're getting worse. Some soup should get you fixed up for now.
[ Ayame extends a reassuring hand on Blaze's shoulder and looks to David ]
I'll make sure he doesn't run off to the Guardian's office and get him home, Major.
[ She didn't know what David would want to do, and telling him what to do would just not feel right either. All that brainwashing to show respect to anyone with a high rank is still hardwired into Ayame's head that it sounded like she's asking his permission almost. ]
no subject
If you don't mind, I'd like to go too. I'm not worried about Blaze running off, so much as I'm going to need to go that way anyway to help out. And I can make a store run if he needs any meds. Not a big deal.
I also know a doctor I can call if you feel like you get worse, Blaze.
no subject
I almost feel like I'm being placed under house arrest.
[Which he probably needs.]
Hopefully I won't need a doctor. It just feels like a cold more than anything.
[That he at least wasn't downplaying. It was most certainly a cold... a slightly bad one, but a simple cold none the less. He does appreciate that they're looking out for him, even if he still feels a little stubborn about the whole thing.]
Shouldn't we stop at the Guardian's office first anyway? If only just to show you the basics, and get you acquainted with Kirk.
[He knows Kirk will get along with them just fine, but he does want them to be aware of the local station dog.]
Sorry I'm late! orz
[ Ayame rests a hand on Blaze's shoulder, looking by the street for any cabs driving by ]
Can't your Deputy spare some time to show us later? Your condition is bad enough that I don't recommend even an extra minute not resting.
[ It seems there is only one Deputy Guardian working for Blaze, and since they're gonna be making Dante do the heavy lifting for now, Ayame feels bad for him too. Even if she never met Dante yet. ]
But first, we need a cab to get to the Attleton gate...
[ Sure she can just create a portal out of nowhere to get them to the Attleton gate faster than a blink, but Ayame remains hesitant in using her powers like that and freak out two muggles ]
