Operation 10 | [Video/Action]

[Early in the day, the video feed clicks on to a grinning Gale who was lazily lounging on a bar stool with his chin cupped in his palm. With the clear view of the crystalline walls and faint violet light eminating from them, it was easy to tell he was in After Life, but it was much quieter than usual save for the faint sounds of bass managing to seep through the walls. He was sitting in the staff room of the club, since it was probably a lot easier to make an announcement without music blasting in the background.]

Gooooood morning, ladies, gents, robots, zombies and everything between. I have a small announcement for After Life, in effect for today only. Today happens to be someone's birthday. The birthday of yours truly. Now, what with my turning 28 - yes yes, I know, I look awfully good for my age - I figure I could extend an offer to those who might be interested.

For the duration of the 13th, and up until 8 AM of the 14th, all drinks in the club will be half off. And I'll even make the club's very own drink Prism available for today instead of just makin' it available for a few hours on Fridays. And yes, that half off offer also extends to staff, which means you all pay half of half. I'm just a sweetheart, aren't I?

[He also lives to jokingly amp up the arrogance to 11.]

That said, in a much less interesting note, I guess that "Halloween" thing's comin' up again, huh? [Good lord, that meant he's been in this place for nearly a year.] And here I am without a costume for tomorrow's party. Guess I'm gonna be doin' some last minute costume shopping. Anyone got any good suggestions?

[He had half a mind to send "Kharon" like he did last time, but he wasn't completely sold on that idea. Not yet, anyway.

Meanwhile, later in the day, Gale would be found in the club like usual and working all parts of the job- dancing on stage, serving drinks at the bar, manning the VIP room, throwing people out for causing trouble... or even just casually flirting with patrons. It's his club. He does what he wants. Even when it means at some point he'd get people together and dance to a particular song. He was rather lively today.]

[Karla listens to the announcement and...the sheer joking arrogance he displays amuses her to no end. So much so that she starts laughing when he's done.]

Well, that was quite an announcement...

[He'll have a big ol' grin when he hears her laughing. If he makes a pretty lady laugh, then it's still mission accomplished.]

But of course. No one would listen if it wasn't over-the-top in some manner.

Is that so? I had no idea...

[She'll laugh again before calming down.]

Anyway...Happy Birthday then, Gale.

You sure enjoy fluffing yourself, don't you? You could be narcissus for halloween, and make kissy faces at yourself in a mirror.

[Oh, Allen. This is why he likes you. He starts fluffing one side of his bangs.]

No mirror would be large enough to satisfy my ego, my friend. Unless you can accomodate me on that one.

Of course. If an advertisement gets a reaction, then that automatically makes it more memorable.

[So he says, anyway. It's how he thinks advertising works.]

Why thank you. I'm humbled to get birthday wishes from a lovely lady.

So...do you have any plans?

[ Ayame, dressed to the nines as always, is shown with a cup of coffee in hand. Half-off on drinks is sure to get Ayame to respond, and she did. But it wasn't just the delicious poison she's after, but Gale's mention of this being his birthday and needing a Halloween costume manage to ping her radar. ]

Ah, happy birthday! You didn't mention to me that your birthday is coming up. I would have made your costume for you.

I sure could, if you were satisfied with a funhouse mirror. Then maybe you'd get a look at yourself that's true to life, eh? [Too mean? Maybe. But hey, it was the first thing he thought of. He sat his chin on his knuckles, smirking.]

So, things working out at your club?

Do not dress up as a witch. That would be incredibly insulting to me.

[Hey, it's advice.]

And if I am insulted you won't like what will happen.

Ah, I guess even though we really don't know each other I'll still say Happy Birthday. I hope you have a good one.

[He paused for a moment.]

Your still stuck on an idea for the costume party? I admit I don't know what I'll be being either so I can't really help you there. Unless you like a certain game or something, then you could always dress up as your favourite.

Well, my plans used to be just to get drunk, but I can't exactly do that very well anymore.

So really, no. Best plan I've got is just to be at After Life all day.

Ouch. Sick burn, bro. [A beat.] Wait, are you sayin' my butt looks fat?

[He'll keep an accusatory stare for a few moments before returning a smirk of his own.]

Quite well. I'm certainly doin' better at this than the previous club's owners, that's for sure.

Why, thank you. I try not to draw attention to it beforehand. It's not really important information for me anymore save for deals like this.

[It was a wonder he even bothered to keep count anymore. But he'd might as well so long as he's still breathing.]

But you didn't mention to me that you've got skills in makin' outfits. You make what you wear yourself?

Well, I can't say I'm a fan of insulting pretty girls. That's not my style.

[He had to insult an android girl once to provoke her. Sure, she was a bounty target that needed eliminated, buuut... he still didn't like doing it.]

Besides, do I really look like the kind of guy that would dress up like a witch? I still have a preference to wearing pants than skirts.

Hey, we know each others' names, right? I think that counts as knowin' each other. [He'd never forget a hairstyle like that.] Still, thanks.

[He shrugged.]

That's a possibility. Though depending on what I'd go with, I'd probably have to hit my subarchway up for it first.

[Going as a particular fictional character from his world would be amusing... or he could snatch something from the military base again. Just for fun.]

Though I didn't know there were previous owners. Where'd you hide the bodies?

[She did in her civilian form, but not so much her actual outfit.]

Trousers, shorts, skirt, pants suits. Witches wear anything any other would wear. Just more...gothic I believe people would call it here.

Knowing one anothers name and really knowing one another are two different things. But I get your point.

That was my plan for if I needed a costume. [Goung to his sub archway anyway.] Not that I could pick just one if I do go to the party.

Hm. Yes, that's fair.

[ Ayame nods. Thinking about it to herself, telling people about one's birthday beforehand can send the wrong message ]

And I did make it indeed. Though not from scratch, I had to sew this together from different fabrics from the clothes I bought.

[ And she bought a lot. So much that she needs a job and proper housing soon. But her bounty hunt gave her just enough for food and an extension on her hotel stay. ]

[There's only one way to take that comment then. He dramatically put a hand to his chest.]

How could you? I'm wounded!

[Fatally. Clearly.]

Hey! There wasn't any murder involved! ... I think. I never did ask Ivina. I just thought she had a serious bonus to diplomacy.

[If you know what he means.]

[He lets out a whistle.]

Still, that's impressive. So that gorgeous number you wore the other night, that was your own design?

[If she made that, then he'll probably need a fan for himself depending on what else he sees her in.]

You could probably dominate the fashion industry in this place if you wanted to.

Soooo, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume you're a witch yourself and that's how you know all this.

[He's no rocket scientist, but it's easy to put together.]

So do witches ride broomsticks and eat little children in the woods, or are those just stereotypes?

[He doesn't bother actually get to know people most of the time. This place had already burned him a couple times on that front.]

Pick a few, roll some dice, narrow it down that way. The dice never lie.

Oh my, so you obtained it through illicit methods? I should probably report you! But I won't, because I like you. [He smirks during this, pulling his chin off his hand and looking elsewhere off the camera, though he looks back when he thinks of something.] Happy Birthday, by the way.

But not like I would ever have anything like that. ut I'll judge based on if I like the costume or not.

[ Ayame nods in consideration of that idea. Since she hasn't heard of any competition... it's possible. But all it does is give conflicting thoughts in her head that she puts aside. She has a lot of time to think about that later ]

And yes, that dress is my first modification. I'm glad you think so. I had to rush that one.

[ That was one she had to use her power on, moving at superhuman speeds to finish it in mere moments. She didn't get to buy a clubbing dress in her first day in Genessia, so she had to make one quick ]

Hey, even if that's what Ivina did - and I'm not sayin' that it was - I doubt anyone would care anyway. The last joint had to be raided because of Red Claw ties. If anything, we did the place a favor.

[He lets out a dramatic huff.]

Oh, now you're bein' nice? Don't think you're off the hook, buddy. ... buuut seriously, thanks.

So it was a strategic venture? I know you're after the red claw, but you've gotta be more careful about those kinds of things. Or did you not know you'd be hunting them when you bought it?

Nah. I opened it purely because I wanted to. Iron Faeries was doin' shit after two bounties in the place.

[Then he realizes the android that he, Troy and Aqua fought looked a lot like Yang. ... that's kind of weird.]

Psh, I've been huntin' the Red Claw long before I got my hands on this place. Ivina and I combed the place for any remnants, but they were smart and hightailed it out after Troy led a massive bounty hunt after 'em.

[Which thinking about this made him realize how quiet they've been again. That makes him uneasy, especially after the last time they reared their heads after a hiatus like this.]

Obviously. Proud of it as well.

[She sighed slightly.]

No, we can fly without brooms. Stereotypes that are 100% false it's annoying.

Well, at least it seems like business is going well. Here's to hoping the claw doesn't try to get back what isn't theirs, huh? I'm surprised people come in after those two bounties, but I guess you really turned the place around.

[Before he continues on to the next subject that came to mind, Allen makes sure to tick the conversation over to a private line.]

On that note, any news on the hunting front? That modulator been useful?

Hot damn, a rush job? You sure could'a fooled me.

[He wasn't really a guy with an eye for fashion - even if he had his own input in what he did wear and had tailors make it - but even still, what Ayame wore looked like it had plenty of time and detail put into it. Sure showed him what little he knew.]

Y'know, if you ever opened your own place, I'd certainly be happy to advertise for you at After Life. Some folks that walk in there sure look like they need a new wardrobe, lemme tell ya.

Hah, I'm not concerned. I wouldn't mind becomin' a prime target for 'em, but if they're smart, they won't touch this place again. Given the bouncers we have here and the folk that swing by, them startin' a bar fight would be the last thing they did.

[He said that with a sneer. As annoyed as he was by a fight breaking out once or twice in the place, he found that breaking up confrontations was rather fun. Especially if it upped his intimidation points. On the next topic, he frowned slightly.]

It's incredibly useful, but unfortunately, Weiss put a bit of a damper on my plans. When she instated the bounty license thing, it limited what I could do under a different guise. I'll have to be a little more mindful with whatever plans I come up with from here on, but I don't think it should be too much of an issue.

Huh. Neat.

[He had to resist a bit of a chuckle at her sigh. It was tempting to add to it, but a hex is the last thing he'd want to risk. Assuming she did hexes. Still, not something he'd want to find out personally.]

Well hey, at least I asked for verification. The more ya know and all that. Saves me from sayin' stupid things to one if I ever have to go into Everglade again.

Yeah but I doubt you'd use trick dice yourself unless you're wantin' to cheat someone.

[He's seen trick dice plenty in the back room of After Life. Those players don't last long when Gale spots them.]

I'm just sayin' good ol' fashion dice to choose between even and odd, but hey, how you choose is your thing. And hey, if you end up with two, you can at least wear one to the party and the other on that actual Halloween day. I mean, I'm guessin' that's the point of that whole thing.

The licensing system, huh? Which means unless you basically give away your real identity by revealing you have a pendant, you can't get a license, huh? Plus you have to act within the law... would be better to stay vigilante, in the end. At least, for what you're trying to do. But it is pretty painful. If you ever need any aid pulling something off though, I'm your man.

Oh, I already have a license. I do too many bounties in Nova City that I can't afford not to have one. But that's Gale that has it.

[He takes a quick glance to the side before fiddling with something in his pocket and his appearance changed, the now-blond man shrugging and sighing in a different voice.]

Unfortunately, that won't work out so well for Kharon, y'know? Would've gone without a hitch before, but that's the issue with only havin' one phone in this place. Unless there's a way to trick the system, but I'm not willing to find out, and I don't plan on letting Weiss in on this whole thing. Or at least, not yet.

Oh, business partners? Well I could certainly appreciate that. Thank you.

[ Though she wonders if the locals in Nova City can travel to Genessia, where she plans to open her shop ]

[ Ayame asks almost non-nonchalantly, but she had to stifle a giggle at how fun that would be. ]

I could try to work on a way to trick the system, if you wanted. After all, I'm broadcasting from 'hand camera' right now. [With that, the view Gale would receive would split into two, as Allen's other hand formed a second camera, and he positioned it so that the man could see the lens that had formed in the palm of his left hand.]

I made my phone part of my body, downloaded it's programs and absorbed it's functions. I think if I had enough time to crack it open, I could figure out how to bootleg you a phone.

Everglade witches.

[Sigh. She pretty much dislikes everyone, so it's not really surprising.]

They are different to what I know of. But not as powerful as what they can be/

And you'd be surprised at those who might want to. I personally am not one of them. If I play a game I want to play for fun and luck.

[He shrugged slightly.]

I don't know really. I mean I was here for Halloween last year, but... That was not the most fun time of the year. So I'm surprised I'm willing to ant to this time.

[He almost looks a little weirded out by that display. And by 'a little weirded out', it's more accurately 'incredibly uncomfortable' because what the hell.]

Yeah, uh... that's creepy. Like. Incredibly creepy. Next you'll be telling me you're gonna assimilate us when we least expect it. Resistance is futile and all that.

[He shook his head then.]

Nah, gettin' a second phone isn't the issue. We can buy replacements incase we break 'em. It's more havin' an active device to get another license on that's still connected to the CPU. And personally? I don't feel like goin' to that kinda effort. We put in enough just gettin' this done.

[He points at himself when saying that. He even said 'we', since he sure wouldn't even be able to make use of this guise without Allen's help.]

So I can accept doin' lesser things with this instead of actual major bounties. Kharon's purpose in the first place was recon. The actual hunts are for Orlok.

[He tapped his scarred cheek then.]

Not sure if I should try to establish Kharon anywhere outside of Nova City though. Could be funny to open a sister location to After Life and have him be the 'manager' of it.

[He just realized that actually, that could give Kharon a base of operations outside of Nova City. Maybe he should think on it.]

Assimilation is for chumps. That's memory I could be reserving for my music. [He closed one of the cameras- both actually, and instead allowed a length of his hair to transform, wrapping together at one end into a ball that became a lens, the hair itself hardening like iron, essentially becoming a hands free go-pro for him so he could work with his hands while still keeping the camera on him.]

That said, I still want to give it a try in case we need it for the future. Even if you don't need it for Kharon, it may make a bigger difference elsewhere.

If you're going to establish Kharon somewhere though, you should probably do it with a low profile. The unless the establishment is either very popular or not popular at all, Kharon not being around would be pretty noticeable. That middle area is the most dangerous part.

Well, if you'd want to make it a pet project, I wouldn't stop you. I'd kinda suspect there's safeguards for that though.

[But there could also not be for all he knows. His tech expertise really mostly lie in keeping his own body and general cybernetics working.]

Hard to say on that front. If After Life is any indication, I wouldn't really have to worry about the middle ground, but that's also Nova and not Genessia City. But it's not like I plan on havin' it open under Kharon's name and not my own.

[That would be a dumb move.]

And hey, maybe I could even offer you a job there if you ever got bored.

I'm already working for Yukiko, but if I ever need part-time work I'll consider it. It'd be a good base of operations, if nothing else.

Well, safeguards are made to be cracked open. Even if there are some, I'll figure out what I can do. Maybe if I dig deep enough, I'll figure out something else about this world and why we're here.
