I have lived here some time now, but I'm afraid the days are rather long when there is nothing to do. I think I would like to get a job, if there re any places here willing to hire kids,

I don't think I could do anything with a lot of running about yet. I am much better than I was, but I still need to be careful not to do to much. But I like reading and history and folklore. And back home I learned a bit about gardening and taking care of small animals. Jewelry making do. Dad taught me a bit about engraving metal.

But I'm not really sure where to start looking.

Ain't y' 'posed t' be in school or some shit? How old're y'?

Thirteen last December. I do go to one of the schools here, but it hardly takes up the whole day.

Best thing I can think for y's runnin' shit 'twixt the cities. Make a killin' doin' that, cuz the natives can't do it on their own. So what the hell happened t' y'? Why can't a li'l smolt do a lotta runnin' 'round? 'S what y'all's best at!

I was very sick a few months ago. I'm much better than I was, but I still can't run around as much as I could before.

Ah, Will, I'm sorry boredom has taken you. It hardly seems possible in a world like this, especially with as interesting as the K&H home seems to be. Would you like me to visit more often? There's bound to be good books to read, at the very least.

I'm sure there is plenty you can do to not be bored. I could even try and find you some places if you want.

My parents are not here, I'm afraid. Neither are any of my brothers or sisters.

But if I stay in bed all the time, I will never get better. Before I came here the doctor told me I should try to walk a little further each day.

I just feel like I should be doing something useful.

A'ight, so listen up y' whiny li'l git. Take a day an' walk far as y' can or dare or whatever, an' measure it out. Then y' can find like one or two packages t' deliver for people that takes y' jus' a touch further'n that. Next day, do three packages. Trust me, peeps is always wantin' shit took 'twixt the Gates. Ain't gonna have no problem findin' work. An' they'll pay y' whatever y' ask cuz there ain't no other way they can get it done, so ask for as much as y' want. C'mon pup, if a dumbass like me can come up with that shit, y' can too. Don't like my ideas, come up with one a yer own.

Well you would be limited here, I mean there would be certain jobs they probably wouldn't hire you for. But I guess if you really want to get a job, I can try and see what would hire.

Do you at least know what you can do? Or would you be okay with something as basic as waiter or even a delivery person?

It was why I thought perhaps something to do with books or writing, might be best. Or even with jewelry making. My father is one, and he's taught me a bit of the craft.

Oh, then the library! I mean one stacks books, but there never seems to be that many. Plus it involves books.

I do like books. Something like that might be fun.

And hey you might discover a book you like that way.
