4th Light - The First Year

[So today is the day that Liora turns one year old. And so much has happened within the course of the year, even in the past couple of months alone. At first she was on a solo mission to find the Fae of Light, only to be targeted and captured by the Beastclans. Later, she was rescued and taken in by the Kalma Clan. She had witnessed the burial of one of their members who had fallen during the Passage. Liora then began her own Passage with Cane and Snowy. When they followed a stronger Passage team into the Ghostlight Ruins, they had met Erebus. Then one fateful night, Erebus corrupted the clan's lair with his dark magic. Liora escaped with Cane and Snowy, but even today she remains oblivious to the clan's fate.]

[A dragon's hatchday is supposed to be a happy day. Liora is still feeling anything but happy, but she doesn't want to spend her special day in misery.]

So, um...I understand that today is a special holiday for many people here? Coincidentally...today also happens to be my hatchday. Today I turn a year old, but...I've recently experienced a tragedy back home, and I'm not quite in a celebrating mood. But...I don't want this day to pass me by either.

So...how does one celebrate in the midst of a tragedy?

If it is not too personal, would you detail the manner of your tragedy? It might help with how to celebrate.

Um...well...there's a dark dragon named Erebus...who seeks to smother the world in darkness. He began with our lair...raising the deceased and creating these dark monsters to attack. The lair was destroyed...I managed to escape with Cane and Snowy, but...I don't know what happened to the rest of the clan. I don't know if they escaped, or if they were killed trying to fight off the darkness...

Dear me.

[It sounds bleak, and losing possibly everyone they knew was something he understood well.]

Well, for me, I like to take a moment and remember memories shared, take part in an activity that I knew my friends and family enjoyed... And remember them how I knew they would like to be remembered, happily.

It is a part of life, and it can seem all the more unwanted when it feels premature.

It was...well too premature...

[She ponders for a moment. What did the clan enjoy? Most of their time was spent strengthening themselves to survive in the cruel world. While they did have their elemental festivals, this was the one month without a festival. But perhaps they would enjoy this "Christmas" thing?]

So...what do people do to celebrate this "Christmas" holiday?

Dangling from a noose with a chair for other people to watch. Merry Christmas, sadsack!

I suppose as we are inudated with earthlings and people that, for some reason, have the exact same customs it is only natural...

[He smiles and turns to his apartment, which despite his words is done up in Christmas fashion.]

Many get a tree and decorate it thusly. Also important is to get presents for those close to you. Many find this holiday to be materialistic... [a sigh] but it is most about spending time with others~

As for celebrating, well...gift giving is traditional, and I doubt you're wealthy enough to have gotten everything. What might you like?

[Liora just blinks at the text for a moment. Is this even serious?]

...Decorate a tree? Perhaps I can try that...

I'm not sure who is "close to me" in this world, or what kind of presents to give them...

...That...hardly seems like the answer...

[And yet she wouldn't know what else to do either...]

Someone else had mentioned gift giving...but I don't know what I'd want...

"Ah, the terrible vagueness of desire! Try thinking on it a little more. It's courteous to ask as well as to give."

I...guess I can think on it...

[She's not sure she'll actually be able to think of anything...]

And...I'm supposed to gift to others as well?

"Heh, it is better to give than to receive. Sure, that'd be the superior act! Very well, what can you give?"

[Well, that question quickly takes her off guard, and she immediately begins stuttering.]

What...I-I-I...I don't even know what to give!

[In Sornieth, it'd be easy enough to pick random trinkets from the clan's piles, but those just aren't present in this world...]

"I'm Liora...a Fae dragon from Sornieth."

A pleasure~ I admit I've only met a few dragons before, they very much like keeping to themselves.

Oh, how exciting~ I do enjoy hearing of other locales, though you are not like any dragon I have seen before. Quite majestic.

Hmm...what about Christmas cards? Those are inexpensive and thoughtful. Just pass them around to whomever you like, maybe put some art if you're feeling fanciful.

[She's hardly majestic, especially compared to the monstrous Imperial or Guardian dragons. And she hardly feels majestic after failing to stop Erebus...]

Hmm...that might work. Do I find them in the shops?

"Certainly; or you can make them yourself out of craft paper. Not as polished, but perhaps more sentimental. I've even got some old ones that are in reasonably good condition." [It's amazing what people throw out these days.]

With ice cream, or wine. Or both.

[Could dragons even enjoy alcohol?]

Ice...cream? What is that?

[Something dragons enjoyed in the Southern Icefield?]

[For alcohol, perhaps the larger dragon breeds could enjoy it, but certainly not a fragile little thing like Liora...]

[THERE IS DEFINITELY A GASP]

You poor...soul! Having lived without ice cream all this--

All this year! This must be rectified!

[Maybe rum raisin ice cream because while Grell doesn't promote underage drinking, who knows how long any of them will be here.]

Um...I guess I could try it...?

[There is an uncertainty in her voice, though. She'd have to see what's in it to determine if her fragile tummy could handle it...]
