2nd Survival - What's a dragon to do with himself?

[Well, it isn't often that Qubine finds himself completely lost. In fact, this is actually the first time he's felt this way. The last time he was alone, he had done something about it. Then again, the Gladekeeper had been watching over him, so he wasn't completely alone.]

[But things are different here. The dragons in Fayren won't join him, and there were no lost or abandoned dragon eggs to take in. Even Liora seems to be avoiding him. There are several reasons why this could be, but Qubine won't force her to deal with him. On top of that, he needed no money for food or lodgings. He had always gathered food in the wild, and he was used to living in the woods. So what's a dragon to do with himself?]

[Unfortunately, the only thing Qubine can continue to do is explore this world. Once again, he takes to the skies in all five cities - this time without the pain from his injuries. He'll also land and walk along the ground to get a closer look at the buildings and other things.]

[In the end, Qubine decides that Fayren would be the best place for him to live, so he tears down a few trees to make room for himself. At least this place best resembles the Viridian Labyrinth.]

[Once he's done with that, he'll go hunting for some animals, also exploring all five cities to see what kind of wildlife lived there. He may also be found in any lake or river, either catching fish and other seafood, or simply washing himself.]

[Now that Qubine's mostly settled down in his half-hearted makeshift home, he decides to satisfy the curiosity that's been plaguing his mind since he first arrived.]

All right...back in Sornieth, I was considered the top warrior among my clan. [As the leader should be...] However, the hologram in the bay suggests that there are those here who may be even stronger. If that is true, I'd like to see for myself where I stand amongst the humans and other creatures here. It has been some time since I've had a decent challenge, and I'm always seeking to improve my skills. So if there are any who would be willing to battle me, let me know where we can meet. I am still rather new to this place...

Qubine might be privy to some curious violence going on between Ted's menagerie.

"Come on, Gengar! Show them the power of true liberty!" That and other encouraging protests were the fanfare to a spectacular fight. A purple, amorphous creature of shadow weaved between the onslaught of arboreal foes, three of them arrayed against it. Cactuar fired an assault of needles; Vileplume threw sedative spores, and Trevenant brought up the front with blows bearing the strength of primeval wood.

In other words, a three-on-one, with the shadow pokemon being pushed to its limit as Ted watched from the sidelines, hoping for Gengar's victory. Little did he know a Dragon-type lay in the near vicinity.

While on the hunt for food, Qubine heard some commotion going on nearby. He was either bored, or cautious enough to investigate something that could be a potential threat, Qubine made his way closer to the source. Once he spotted what was going on, he tilted his head. Four beasts he had never seen before, but given their appearances, he figured them to be three Nature-aligned beasts versus one Shadow-aligned beast. The Shadow one he would definitely have to be wary of. Regardless, Qubine stepped forward to interrupt.

"What's going on here?"

[While in Everglade, Qubine may come across an abandoned cathedral - the one where Cipher had the pleasure of tormenting the corrupted priest into insanity several months ago. Since being returned to this world, Cipher had been reacquainting himself with the city, and decided to claim the empty cathedral for his own. You never know when you might need a sort of secondary hideaway.

Perched atop the room was the demon in his true form. Despite his size, he was rested rather delicately on the rooftop, listening carefully to the sounds of the city. His two crows were at his side, and upon seeing Qubine, the red-eyed one would start squawking while the blue-eyed one only watched. Right now, the black beast didn't seem interested in his familiar's banter, or what those caws were even about.]

[When Qubine came across the cathedral, it was one of the more interesting-looking buildings. Not quite seeing the beast on the rooftop yet, he decides to take a peek inside. He sticks his head through the doorway to study the lights and furnishings inside, but he's too large to fully enter. What curious decor.]

[The crow's caw startles the dragon, as he yanks his head back out and cranes his head out to spot the demon on the rooftop. He lets out a soft snarl as he bares his claws and plants them into the ground, ready to defend himself if need be.]

Even Ted's more languid grass-types took stock of the new arrival, halting their commotion. This was great for Gengar, who took advantage of their distraction and shadow punched them all into next week. Yes, he noticed Qubine too, but why not use the opportunity to blindside his opponents and sneak an easy win? This training was exhausting and, more to the point, unfair. He'll sit on his duff to catch his breath.

Ted, like always, took a longer time to notice the obvious. "Hm? You've all let down your guards. What could...?" He followed their eyes to the one they noticed.

"Oh! Well, hello, Qubine! Fancy seeing you here. Your wounds healed up, then? I take it the meeting with Konoka ended affably.

Was just engaged in some roughhousing between my pets. Don't worry; it might seem extraordinarily violent, but it's actually very innocent and enjoyable for them." He cast his view over their forms; Gengar was dog-tired, panting on the ground with a surly look. The rest had just been clobbered, sprawled out upon being punched by darkness itself.

"Despite appearances..."

Qubine paused to look over the injured/exhausted beasts laying around. Innocent and enjoyable? That's laughable.

"Yes, my wounds have healed just fine. I suppose I have you and Konoka to thank for that."

Another brief glance at the Pokemon before he adds, "I'm not sure if I believe you..."

[The dragon certainly caught the red haired knight's eye, in fact when she pops up in reply she definitely looks excited to say the least. Her garnet eyes glimmered and her smile had a bit of attitude and pride.]

If you need a person to practice with I'd like to volunteer! In my world I was captain of the Red Knights.

[She looks very much like a Serthis, Qubine thinks as he peers at her on the video feed. He's going to assume that she's one of those "humans," though...it's hard to tell through these devices.]

As you wish. Do you have a suggested battlefield in mind?

[She looks thoughtful for a moment thinking over her answer carefully. Fayren came to mind since it had lots of land that wasn't policed constantly like how the cities were.]

How does Fayren sound? We should be relatively undisturbed in a field there.

[He nods.]

Fayren sounds good to me. How shall I address you?

Elesis, and you are?

[She's already starting to move to where she thinks a good place to fight would be.]

Qubine. I will meet you in Fayren.

[And he'll end the feed and explore Fayren until he finds the redhead human. He's not sure if he'll be able to spot her, but for her, it should be easy to spot a dragon four times her size...]

[Being that she was on the move, she was making her way out of the village to head into some of the many fields and forests that surrounded the area. The young woman had her normal sword clipped to her back and a practice sword in hand. She tracked her way quickly partial out of excitement as well as being unsure as to just how patient the dragon was. It didn't take long until she found a large field she favored that was far from any harm they could do unless it was to the surrounding area. She made her way to around the middle before sending him her GPS location. Her eyes glanced now and again to the sky while she stretched and warmed up her muscles for practice.]

[Qubine's still flying when he suddenly receives the GPS signal on his device. It's unfamiliar to him at first, but fairly easy to deduce what it meant. Once he reaches her location, he lands near her with a decisive boom as his feet hit the ground. He's outfitted for battle himself, with gold armored gauntlets and boots on his arms and legs, and even his tail is protected with gold armored guard. The red vest with yellow trim isn't made of armor, but that allows him more freedom of movement. Once he lands, he peers at the human to study her for a moment.]

You are Elesis?

[Elesis had to adjust her footing so not to fall over from his landing. The red haired knight gave him a good look over, noticing his armor curiously. She herself was wearing a red over dress, the symbol of Velder, the country she swore allegiance to hung over her white skirt. She had armor on her shoes and torso, very light considering. Gazing up at him curiously, she finally beamed a smile.]

Yup, that's me~ I'm going to guess you're Qubine?

Obviously.

[Because even here, Qubine stuck out like a sore thumb.]

So, shall we begin?

"Hm?" He took another look at the group. Still tired, almost fainted. "Well, they are rather fantastic, aren't they? Suppose I wouldn't blame you if you thought they were all figments of your imagination. Very tired figments, by the look of it. Okay, all of you, take a break. You've earned it!"

No response; Gengar even let down his usual rictus.

"Ah, and you're very welcome." Ted didn't feel he'd really done anything except alert Konoka of his existence, but hey, he won't pass up free gratitude. Idly and automatically, Ted's phone was at the ready as he indulged his curiosity and pored over the network.

"Oh, seems you've had something to say." He read the message and had a growing, burning smile as his eyes flit from left to right.

"Hahaha! Looking for some roughhousing yourself, are you? I wonder what Konoka might have to say about that?" He made a comic imitation of a feminine voice. " 'Oh Qubine, you should've told me how eager you were to undo my work. If you adore wounds so much I'd have been happy to let you keep them. I know how you men covet the rugged aesthetic of scars.' Hahaha! I hope she charged you; else I'm tempted to think you took advantage."

He'll stop making fun of dragons any day now.

Qubine's face pinches in annoyance. "You'd better learn that I have no patience for jokes, lest you'll be the one with scars. I take survival seriously, so I will not be caught unprepared if something poses a serious threat."

Ted's face, on the other hand, grew into a more impish smile.

"Does that mean you like your humor to be swift? Simply can't wait for the joke? It must not mean distaste, for you seem to be making a few jokes yourself. Like, hah, 'taking survival seriously.' As opposed to all those others things you take so frivolously! Or a 'serious threat', which is redundant. Are there silly threats? Hahaha!" Qubine's a funnier dragon than Ted expected, even if it is inadvertent.

"It very much means distaste. Perhaps I should rephrase: I have little tolerance for humor."

Qubine's right eyes widened a bit in confusion. "What frivolous things are you talking about? There are those with all bark and no bite, and then there are those capable of doing serious damage. The latter is far more common than the former where I come from. Even if this world is supposedly 'safer,' one can never be too careful.

"But if you think I enjoy being wounded for the fun of it, perhaps you'd like to hear how I received the wounds I had when I arrived."

Ted's laughter died down only a little.

" 'What frivolous things' indeed! I wonder whether there are any?" Ted was, of course, mocking his pointed lack of frivolity. He seemed an imbalanced dragon.

"Mm? Perhaps I would, if you'd like telling it." He sat down and stretched a little, making himself comfortable. He is the reigning champion of backstory collection. "Honestly, it'd be a positive shock to hear you enjoy much of anything." He didn't seem the type.

Actually, there was a time when Qubine was actually able to enjoy things. Namely during the elemental holidays when he, Usha, and Grim would dress up in the respective holiday's theme. But that was a part of his backstory that Ted would likely never hear. All of that was before the plague happened, the Beastclans emerged from hiding, and everything changed. Half of the clan was killed by the plague, and a good number of them were killed by the Beastclans. Qubine hardly has time for celebration anymore when survival was practically a 24/7 job at this point.

Qubine began his story that he had promised. "It happened when the dark dragon named Erebus attacked our lair. I ordered Shayla to flee, and she did. However, as she flew away, I spotted a magical blast being thrown at her. I flew after her and took the hit in order to protect her. The blast was based from an element that she and I are both especially vulnerable to, so I knew that Shayla wouldn't survive it. The choice was obvious; either take the wound, or let Shayla die. And the latter will be unacceptable so long as I live."

Ted was hoping for more of a story, there, rather than a staid and mildly dull account. He's heard of Erebus before; doubtless Liora conferred with him about it at some point or another. He slowly tapped his foot, waiting for an interest that wouldn't come.

"I see; Shayla must be someone very important to you. What element was that, exactly?

Have a plan to kill every dragon you see.

"She's my mate. Of course she's important to me. I'm not about to lose her, especially after losing our sons."

Qubine gave the human a suspicious look. "You mean what element are we vulnerable to? What makes you think I'll reveal my weaknesses?"

Really, Ted. Qubine didn't survive this long by being stupid.

Welp, she's definitely lost now, so so much for that!

"I'm...sorry to hear that." Ted's all too familiar with loss in rapid succession.

"I wouldn't blurt it to all and sundry, if that's what you're worried about. What I'm worried about is overdoing it and getting into an accident should it come up in our upcoming duel. Wouldn't want to bother Konoka too often, lest she tire of tending to you."
