[By the time he got out of the weird, wet cavern he'd woken up in and stepped out into the blinding sunlight, Prompto had mostly had time to calm down (which is good, because flailing his way out of the weird coffin-egg-thing and almost dropping the box that had been on top of him into the water was not the epitome of cool). Listening to the hologram-lady had kind of helped, or at least it had helped cement for him that he had indeed been kidnapped, so at least he kind-of, sort-of knew what was going on.

[(Hey, at least this time it wasn't Ardyn kidnapping him! He'd take it.)

[The city was big, and Prompto found himself looking around in kind of a state of shock. He didn't even think to get out his camera - he was way more concerned with trying to figure out where he was and, more importantly, if his friends were here.

[Unfortunately, just looking around wasn't presenting many answers. So he pulled out the phone that had been in the box on top of him, looking it over for a couple of minutes while standing on the side of the street, getting a feel for it until he figures out how to make a video message.]

H-hello? Can anybody see this?

[He isn't sure he's doing this right, but he presses on anyway.]

I just woke up here? And-- I don't really know where here is. Um.

Nocto? Ignis? Gladio? ...is anybody else here?

Or does anyone know where I can find my friends?

Ano... that's all, I think...

[He closes out the video, uncertain how to end it. Or what else to say, really. Now he has to actually do something.]

Pr... ( he knows that voice. knows it almost immediately in fact! but by the time he replies, it seems his buddy had already closed off the video feed, he as just a second too late.
that's probably what he gets for sleeping in, but when there's no one in genessia ~~yet~~ to police your sleeping habits, this is what happened, apparently!

but he's not going to give up that easily, not when he's finally seeing the face of his friend after so long! )

Prompto! Hey, Prompto! ( his voice is getting louder with the subsequent calls, ringing out of the microphone— )

What, you're gonna give up that easily? Come on, answer the phone! ( and then, a little more quietly, though he chuckles as he says it... ) And you guys give me a hard time for being the one out of it, heh.

[It's not often that Regis actually checks his phone. Even in his blessed reprieve from all he knows, the former king is still quite busy. His new employement as a "Magic Instructor" has honestly took up most of his precious time, while looking after Cassian's shop takes up the rest. It's by sheer luck that Regis catches this message and when he does; he almost gasps once he sees the familiar youth upon the screen.

He knows that face well! Of course he would given that little scamp is friends with his dear son. That's why Regis stares into the screen of his phone looking so shocked.

Just when did Prompto suddenly arrive? How is this...possible?]

...Nocto?

[His face scrunches up a little at that offending nickname. Why "Nocto"? He's quite fond of calling his son "Noct" but barely. Regis prefers calling the prince by his given name.

The name "Noctis" is something that his dear wife thought of years ago once they found out they would have a son. It's a beautiful name hailing from an old Lucian word meaning "night". Aulea did well naming their precious baby boy but even if she never gotten the chance to meet him.

That's furthermore reason why Regis cannot help but frown some.]

Must you lads use such an odd nickname for him?

[Prompto is not really the master of great timing, but at least when he gets a call back he picks it up - not without fumbling the phone a little getting it back out, but he manages okay. Hearing a familiar voice at the other end perks him up significantly, though.]

Nocto?

[He's questioning it for a moment, but he knows that voice! He'd know that voice anywhere.]

Nocto! You're here too? Is everyone else here too? Are you okay?

[Prompto is more than a little shocked by this response - of all the people he could have possibly expected to run into, his best friend's father is not even close to one of them. So if he stammers a little in his response, that's probably normal.]

Y-you're.. your highness?

[He has never been very good with formalities, especially with Noctis, but there's a very different level going on here. A very different level.]

You're here too?

[Okay, he was going to do this right. The past few times he'd forgotten stuff like saying what his name was, but there was nothing distracting him now. Taking a deep breath, he turned his video on and sort of awkwardly recited the lines.]

H-Hi. I'm Bracken.

[Wherever he was, it decidedly wasn't in the big city Prompto was in. Looked like there was nothing but trees and woods around him.

He, as well, didn't look very modern day, wearing typical mage-robes and holding a staff just like someone in one of his video games probably did. At least the device didn't seem to pose much of a problem for him.]

I-I... I don't know them, b-but sometimes you have to wait for your... for your friends. I'm still waiting for m-mine.

[And it had been a while, but he put on a smile. He just had to wait longer until they showed up.]

[Prompto notices pretty quickly that the boy in the video looks a lot like one of the characters in the phone games he played.. well, before he came here and his phone got replaced, anyway. He also notices that he sounds pretty nervous, so he puts on a smile and tries to sound encouraging.]

Nice to meet you, Bracken!

So... people just come here and sometimes not at the same time? Even if I was with them before?

[He doesn't know anything about how this works, he just hopes his friends are here, too. And Bracken's, because being alone is never fun.]

Y-Yeah. I don't know why.

[No one had ever seemed to get a good explanation for all of this, and he wasn't the best person for those kind of discoveries. It happened, end of story.]

B-But it's okay. There's other people here, a-and they're nice, so you can hang out with th, with them until your friends show up.

[So long as Prompto was being nice to him he would keep struggling along.]

Y-You're...

[He tried to get a good look at Prompto's surroundings. He mostly just knew a few places, and didn't have any reason to go to the others. It definitely screamed 'big city' to him, which generally meant one of two places.]

I... I think that's Genessia? I-It's big and loud, with lots of people.

[Prompto nods, sighing a little. He couldn't really pretend that he wasn't upset by the idea of not finding his friends.. but he wouldn't let it keep him from connecting with other people. Maybe they could help him find his friends, or a way home, or something.]

That sounds like. Genessia, huh? I've never heard of it..

Hey, do you know if anybody has ever gotten out of here? Like.. back to where they came from?

[Okay, so he could technically try to just.. deal with this, but if there's a way to get back home, that would be better. He already misses his friends.]

Y-Yeah. People have, but they say it happens... it happens...

[He glanced up for a moment in thought.]

...r-randomly. No one knows how to do it on p-purpose.

[He got a little more enthused as he explained the next part.]

I-If you don't like the big cities, F-Fayren is smaller, and has lots of forest. It's pretty, and i-it's quieter.

[This boy definitely had a preference.]

[Prompto nods, tucking the "randomly" information away in his brain for later. Hopefully it wouldn't matter because either he'd find his way back or his friends would be here, but just in case.. yeah, he might need to know that.]

Fayren? It sounds really nice-

[He wasn't really used to forests, or small towns; He grew up in a very, very big city and until he'd left Insomnia with Noctis and the others, he'd never even seen a forest. He thinks he might like them better here, where there were probably less monsters.]

Is it close to here?

[Prompto certainly didn't have the forest-boy look, but it was a great place to Bracken, and so he assumed it would be a great place for other people, too. Away from all the cars and noise and crowded buildings.

He nodded enthusiastically.]

Y-Yeah, you just go...

[He fiddled around with the device as he spoke, finally sending Prompto a map to the archway. At least he was competent with this thing.]

There. I-I could meet you there, i-if you want.

[He was kind of getting used to leading people around at first. At least in Fayren. He still didn't properly introduce people to the newbie accommodations, because they didn't exist when he arrived and he usually didn't remember them.]

[There was a ping on his phone, and he looked briefly at the map Bracken sent before he flipped back to the video screen; Luckily he was pretty familiar with smart phones, so he didn't lose the video call..thing.]

Sure! I- I should probably look for my friends, first, though.. if people come through here, they might be here somewhere. But I guess they could be there, too!

[It occurs to him that he forgot something, and he stops himself to address it.]

My name is Prompto, by the way. When should I meet you there?

M-Maybe. Everyone appears at the Bay, first. B-But sometimes it takes a while.

[He smiled softly. At least things seemed to be going okay. He was never very confident about this socializing thing.

He went ahead and started walking, knowing the way pretty well even from the middle of the forest.]

I-I could go there now.

Odds are everyone who has this device will see the feed.

[Unless he locked it to people, but he knew that was a rare thing that happened. Extremely rare, so he assumed that was not the case.]

As for your friends, if you can't find them here then there's always the case of checking now and again at the Bay.

[That hint of shock within the youth's gaze hits him subconsciously. It's...been awhile since anyone looked at him with such fright. Most of the locals here in this realm know very little about the elderly king and his violent fall from grace. However, Prompto knows quite well about the terrible fate that befell Regis.

That's why the king takes up a somber tone now. Regis is quite aware that he's supposed to be dead.]

Indeed, that I am.

[There's a hint of a smile upon his face.]

It's been quite some time since we last met, Sir Argentum.

Yeah, I'm fine. Great, actually. Considering the whole... swept up into a different reality thing. ( look how funny he's being. actually, this is the first time he's really felt like cracking any kind of joke since he's gotten here. let's just... call it your influence, prompto. )

It's going to sound pretty crazy but... Luna's here too. And— ( a notable pause. ) Dad...

( he lets that sink in for a minute before clearing his throat— ) You're... good too, right? Where are you? It's not that bad to get around once you get used to it.

( and don't get lost.

I'm glad you're here!! I was worried it was just me-

[He tilts his head a little at the mentions of Luna and.. well, the king. Not that they'd really met, actually, but he knew this was a big deal on top of being more than a little confusing. Circumstances considered and all. But Noctis moves on before he can really comment on it, which might be a good thing, and he lets it skip for now.]

I'm okay so far. Um, pretty confused but here. I'm gonna meet someone who said he'd show me around part of this place.. I dunno. Is there a way back?

[Prompto is all about not being stuck here, okay. Not that things were going that great back home, but well.. that's home, and this place is freaking weird, even by Prompto's standards.]

[Prompto is trying not to stare, because that's rude and also, you know, a little scary, and he's nervous. He'd been nervous after waking up in a strange place with no idea where he was (again) already, so this was just pushing that anxiety up.]

A-a really long time. Um. I'm glad you're okay and, um, here. Is Nocto-- Noctis here too?

[It can't hurt to ask. And talking about Noctis is more comfortable for Prompto, he's used to it.]

[He's cheered up by the idea of his friends showing up eventually, at least. Hope is important. Especially to insecure blonde photographers.]

Sure! I'll meet you there. Um.. hopefully I won't get lost!

Ah, thank you! So they might still turn up? Does everyone end up here?

[Prompto has a lot of questions.]

M-Most places are safe, so... it's okay. E-Except Everglade. Don't go there.

[He was already on his way, but it would still take a while for him to get to the gate. Twenty, thirty minutes. He traveled by walking, after all, but at least he knew how to get there well.]

I-If you're not sure, you can ask me. I-I'll recognize it.

I see the city is trapping people all the time.

[To what purpose, he's wondering. He hasn't been here all that long himself and is now observing all the new arrivals as they appear on the network. The words were almost spoken to himself rather than directed at Prompto.]

( some things are better explained in person, probably. you know, where awkward hand gestures can at least fill uncomfortable silences. )

No one's... found a way out yet. Not that I've heard of, anyway. ( it's weird, he's right. ) I've actually— been here for awhile. There's a place we're all staying, dad got an apartment. It's not huge but— it's bigger than a caravan at least.

( there's a smile as he says it. home was a campfire with your buddies, eating and laughing... even when it was just a slice of toast. prompto's presence is reminding him of that. )

It always seems to be down to chance. Some people get a lot of friends arrive, while other might not get any at all. If you do it doesn't necessarily mean they all come at the same time also.

[which he wondered if that might seem confusing.]

[It's that acute sense of fear and nervousness that makes poor Regis sigh some. He knew sooner than later that his miraculous resurrection would cause this much of a disturbance. The old king couldn't forget the look of fright in Noctis' eyes, that hint of fear and general mistrust. It shook Regis to his core.]

Calm. [He raises his hand briefly to signify Prompto to silence.] Noctis is here. He lives with me in Fayren, a city native to this world reachable by usage of the Gates.
