Mayoral Address VIDEO | Open

[It’s been a couple of weeks since Jacques took his place as mayor of Nova City and he’s finally settled in, fired his poor excuse for an assistant and gotten a new one. The office has been redecorated to resemble his office back home, complete with the portrait of his younger self. He sits tall in a new pressed suit that’s been topped off with a matching set of sky blue and white striped tie and handkerchief, hands clasped together in front of him on the desk.

Citizens of Nova City, it is my privilege to sit here before you as your mayor. Adjusting to life here hasn’t been easy, but I am fully confident that I will be able to run this city more efficiently than ever before with the support of you, its citizens, and the appointed Guardian, which by the looks of it will be my very own daughter. Rest assured, the two of us are capable of separating our personal and professional lives - there will be no corrupt bargains here. [Insert slimy politician smile here.]

Now, I know some of you are a little on edge with my new-found role. Understandable, given my unprofessional introduction to this world, but I assure you that you have nothing to fear. The position of mayor is one of give and take, and I am available to answer any concerns and address any issues that you may have. Why, I listened to you when you suggested this position over one of a Guardian, did I not? It is my duty as mayor to listen to all of you and respond in the manner I best see fit for our great city. Recently, we’ve seen a new transportation system. We now have living quarters up in the sky. I will do all that is within my power to ensure that Nova City’s Age of Prosperity continues to thrive.

So thank you, kind citizens, for electing me as your new mayor. Together we can make our city a place that we are proud to call our home.

If anyone offers you any illicit dealings, you'll inform the City Guardian's office without delay given that one of my campaign goals is to strengthen prosecution of white collar crime.

[ Like, she's warning you Jacques. Don't believe for a second she won't arrest you if something happens. This is the nice polite way of her saying it better fucking not happen.

But she knows not to be horribly rude. She still has to live with him here, and now work with him probably. ]

[Part of him is envious, but given what he's learned during his own campaign, his impeding loss is likely for the best.]

[Here's where he worried his memory was failing him. He thought he remembered Jacques wanting to go somewhere else, but maybe he was wrong.]

[He was hesitant to ask, worried that he was mis-remembering and Jacques wouldn't know what he was asking about.]

[Really, Rowan has no opinion on Jacques one way or the other. If anything, he just seems to fit the role of "asshole politician" quite nicely, but Rowan has never seen a politician that isn't an asshole anyway. Not to mention, this is for Nova City, which Rowan doesn't frequent that much. Instead, he'll comment on something else.]

What's with the portrait of Clark Gable? I mean, he was a great actor, but that's a weird thing to have hanging in a mayor's office.

[This. Slimeball. The very fact that this guy got a position of power of any form is infuriating, and given that Weiss told Gale that Jacques wasn't above bribing just tells him that's exactly how Jacques got this position in the first place. Which just meant Gale would make it his personal mission to make this guy's life Hell in some manner. He refused to make it easy for him.

However, Gale also would also be mindful of Weiss' words, and Gale had to be more tactical... for now, anyway. So, intead of Gale appearing on the feed to annoy the ever living shit out of Jacques with his fury well hidden, it's instead Kharon again. The scarred blond looking particularly bored with his chin cupped in his hand.]

So, uh, s'cuse me sayin' but when did this vote happen? 'cuz it's hard for these ears- [He tugs one of his pointed ears.] -to miss somethin' that important.

[ Neo claps her hands at the video while smiling. Oh, she's heard of this guy before. Bad news in a nice suit. Very much unlike Roman, yet the slimy smile is pretty similar. But that could mean good news for her. ]

Congratulations, Mayor Schnee. It's so nice to see newcomers to this world becoming so successful so soon! Have you had any celebrations yet?

Congratulations, Mister Schnee.

May your term as Mayor be as bright as you are kind.

[Whenever this election was, it was certainly much less annoying than the guardian election.]

Congratulations are in order. I look forward to seeing where this leads.

Thank you, Ms. Kiryuin. I have high hopes for this city and will do my best to make them a reality.

[Jacques? Kind? Well, he's sure as hell not going to correct her.]

You are too kind, Your Royal Highness. Please, if there's ever anything Nova City can do for you, do let me know.

Thank you, Miss Sutcliff. Unfortunately I have not yet had the chance for a celebration - there's much to be done here. Perhaps Weiss and I can have a joint one and celebrate our two victories together as we raise a glass to a better Nova City.

[Jacques smiles back. Now this is the reception he was looking for.]

Thank you, miss. If there's anything you can think that Nova City could do to help you and her other citizens, please let me know.

[Jacques is visibly taken aback at Jaune's harsh words. At his speech; Jaune has zero right to criticize his office. Kid wouldn't know class if a Mozart rose from his grave and threw his fortieth symphony in his face.]

Why Mr. Arc, have I done something to offend you? I only mean to make Nova City a better place for everyone.

Thank you, my dear. And to you as well for your recent re-election!

[He gives a nod of understanding.] Of course, you have my word that any such actions will be brought to your immediate attention. I'm striving towards a better Nova, after all, and much like home, an honest city is a happy city.

[Yes, he'd had to practice that lie in front of a mirror to say it with a straight face.]

And if there's anything I can do to help the Guardian Office, you just need to bring it to my attention and I'll see what I can do to get it gets taken care of - legally, of course.

[Jacques had been waiting for someone to bring this up. He's glad it's Bracken - he knows he has nothing against him. He gives the mage a smile.]

No, after some careful reconsideration I decided to focus my efforts on the city that means the most to me. My family and I live in Nova City and I would like to do what I can to make their lives and the other citizens lives better. And, of course, make it better for visitors from the other cities.

Thank you. I happened upon the opportunity that was practically made for me. I am saddened to hear about the current standings of the Fayren election; for what it's worth, I think you would have made a fine guardian.

[And a potential ally since he and Jacques got along well enough.]

Hmm...

[Now he has mixed emotions about the support he did get from the voters.]

It seems I wasn't prepared enough. I still don't know much about this world. It seems the people here have dealt with things that are beyond my capabilities...

[But there's only so much one can experience in three years...]

[ "Much like home." That sets off a bit of distrust in her, if only because she knows exactly what home is like. But she doesn't bring it up. ]

I appreciate it. I'm sure we'll have to work together on numerous occasions. Do you need assistance selecting your body guards?

[ Neo knows what people want to hear, ironically enough. She wonders just how willing he's gonna go with that sweet talk.

So she begins to test his mettle by answering him in sign language, with a couple of words from her own personal dictionary:

"You're not gonna last long Mister Most-Likely-To-Get-Punched-In-The-Face without real protection."

Neo's pretty sure this guy doesn't know any sort of sign language. The "mister" part is substituted with her making quick gesture meaning "Mustache Man". ]

You mean better for yourself? What did you do to earn that position? Throw Weiss's name around like her accomplishments were your own?

[There are so many things Jaune wants to say to him, but he can't. He promised Weiss.]

Oh...

[He accepted the answer at face value. He was just glad that he hadn't mis-remembered. He answered with a smile.]

I-I think you'll do real good.

[There's a glare coming your way, Jaune. How dare you imply he didn't get this position of his own accord.]

I'll have you know I won the race fair and square by speaking of my accomplishments back home. As it turns out, the people like a man that knows how to run a business efficiently. My interests are to better the city; as a resident, of course I will gain as well, but I assure you the needs of the people are above my own.

[Is it clear that he's lying through his teeth? He's lying through his teeth.]

And I look forward to working with you going forward to make Nova City a truly beautiful place.
