[Did you subscribe to The Genessia Tribune? Did you even remotely wish you had a newspaper or some other form of media to refer to for news, weather, and current events? Then you're in luck! There's a paperboy riding through the streets of Genessia flinging newspapers onto doorsteps or, if you're unlucky, through your window. Even remote locations in the other cities will still get a paper if one of the residents ever wanted one. The Paperboy is just that dedicated.]

[And if you're one of the following people, and you happen to subscribe to the newspaper, the Paperboy may or may not have flung the newspaper through that person's window, at the person, and/or broke something in the area: Lisa Tepes, Remilia Scarlet, Selphie Tilmitt, Szelhamos, Blair, Erza Scarlet, David Jordan, David Haller, Dave Strider, David.

The following people have their newspaper placed neatly on their doorsteps: Cad Bane, Theodore Satchel, Deadpool, Gale Reinhardt, Professor Sycamore, Ayame Sasaki, Soma Cruz, chaos, Yukiko Amagi, Fai D. Flourite, Emerald Sustrai, Chiaki Nanami.]

Moore Wing

The Genessia City Hospital has finished construction of a new wing in the hospital called the Moore wing. The hospital has been going through the renovation process lately and updating all of their current equipment. The employees of the hospital believe all their patients will be happy with the updates as it will allow them to treat patients much more quickly than they have done in the past. The Nurses and Doctors themselves seem to be excited about it.

The smaller clinics owned by the hospital are going through a similar update, though to a lesser degree as many of the Hospital’s non-urgent patients are being sent to them while the renovation process is ongoing. However, the process is expected to be finished within the next couple of days.

Jolly Eddy’s: Escort Service, or Evil Saboteurs?

-Written by Tasha Moonlight

Everglade is not a safe place. Guardian Grell’s racially divisive policies and revolting visage have cemented this fact deep into the collective psyche of its citizens. And who can blame them? The world turns a blind eye to their plight, using its fear to fuel the rest of the world’s safety. Its laws are by far the most barbaric and monstrous in all of Genessia, and some prefer it that way. For those who don’t, local law enforcement offers little solace. Who can these terrified citizens turn to with political corruption and deadly decadence around every turn?

For some, that place is “Jolly Eddy’s”, a privately owned Security Escort Service. Headed by Namur, a retired pirate, they seek to make a quick buck off the insecurities of the fearful. If you’ve got the money, they’ll happily walk you along uncertain paths, leeching off the city’s anxiety.

But all is not as it seems for this parasitic practice. Rumor has it that those who would employ these escorts are not as secure as Jolly Eddy’s would have them believe. Multiple patrons claim that, sometimes moments after arrival, their destinations would be ransacked, burned, and otherwise destroyed. Some even allege that their own persons were brutally beaten once their journeys reached their painful ends. I called their office for comment, and received this sanitized PR dodge:

“While we deeply regret any misfortune that should befall our clientele, we at Jolly Eddy’s hasten to remind that we are not, upon completion, bodyguards. We will take you to and fro wherever you should like to go, but our services end upon the final step. As Mr. Emerson said, ‘life is a journey, not a destination.’ We're exclusively focused the former. Nonetheless, Jolly Eddy’s offers its sincere sympathies to the afflicted, and hopes to continue mutually profitable adventures with all who’d like to be shadowed safely.”

So far, so unhelpful. I decided to get to the bottom of this, and tracked down Jolly Eddy’s self-proclaimed, number one customer. I present, unedited, the resultant interview. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

I couldn't get any more answers out of Andrew, though I did see Andrew walk in the direction of Jolly Eddy's again, presumably to schedule another escort. A service Andrew could not live with nor without. The last words I heard from Andrew came in a whimper. "Please," Andrew seemed to plead, "Not the clown."

Apex Predator

Something appears to be hunting animals in the Fayren forest. While not strange as the animals do that all the time, this animal doesn’t appear to be doing so out of hunger. The body of a dragon was even found leading people to wonder just what it is that is hunting these creatures. A team of mages has been dispatched by the Ivory Tower to investigate this to try to find out just what is going on. It’s not known if they will even find anything, but the people of Fayren wait to see just what the team will have to say once they return.

Alone on the Beach

Tony Sanchez lowered himself to one knee beside the body, being very careful not to touch the footprints in the sand. There were two sets of these, one of them obviously made by the little man in the chair, the dead man. His prints were smooth, like the soles of his expensive dress shoes and, consistent with the weight of the man,the indentations in the sand were very shallow. Had there been more beach traffic, they might not have been seen at all.

“Good thing it’s off season.” The voice came from behind Tony, echoing his thoughts. “Nobody in the cabins. Snack shack’s closed. Only people on the whole beach last night were the runt here and whoever popped ’im.” Even if he hadn’t recognized the voice instantly, Tony would have clued in from the attitude of the speaker. Manny Silver, Tony’s temporary partner on the Biloxi homicide squad, had several reprimands in his personnel file citing his disrespect for victims of crime and their survivors. Asfar as Tony was concerned, in the two months they had worked together, there had been no evidence of moderation in Silver’s style.

Tony got to his feet slowly and turned right around so he could look his partner full in the face.

“I know this man,” he said.

“You know the … the vic?”

Manny was genuinely surprised. Biloxi’s territory was not a large one but this didn’t happen often for, as inmost tourist areas, a large percentage of the population was transient.

“A friend of yours?” Manny was backpedaling. Tony was not only his senior and two grades up in rank, he had a reputation as a completely no-nonsense cop.

“He lives in my building and no, he’s not a friend but I know him. Everybody in the building knows him — knew him. He was different. Not odd really but, well, unusual. Hard to miss.

”Manny sensed an opportunity for a fresh start. “Yea, that’s for sure!” He moved around to the other side of the large wooden beach chair that seemed so far out of proportion to the man it held. “I mean, how many people do you know that walk on the beach with a fancy cane? And Oxfords? But then come to think of it, if you wear a vest and a whaddayacallit — cravat? — and a suit, you’re not just another dude, you’re … you’re … well, let’s face it, Tony, you gotta be just a bit strange!”

Tony didn’t respond but instead angled himself farther from the victim, keeping to the same side of the chair. From the new position he had a clearer front view of the dead man. Were it not for the bullethole in his chest — and the clothes — the little man might have passed for just another tourist walking the beach who sat down fora rest and fell asleep. But there were too many factors slicing through that impression, the most striking of which was the blood and the wood splinters on the sand behind the chair. It struck Tony as more than a bit ironic, almost — he hated to think it: appropriate — that this meticulously dressed man would be shot by someone using a carefully chosen bullet that barely disturbed his appearance on entering the chest, but blew a mighty exit hole on the way out, taking chunks of the chair back with it.He finally spoke.

“We called him Mr. Micawber, the people in our building did. Partly it was the little tummy sticking out and him being so short. See how the footprints come up to the chair and when he sits his feet don’t touch the ground?”

“Yea, looks like he died without ever getting out of the chair again.” Tony didn’t seem to be aware of the interruption.

“And the formal dress. He always wore a three-piece suit, starched collars, a hat and cane. Come to think of it, I don’t see a hat anywhere. We’ve got to check into that. May be something to it.” Manny Silver rotated a full circle.

“Yea, no hat anywhere I can see.So was this Mick-whatever — he’s Irish or something, is he? — was he in the habit of walking on the beach this early in the morning?”“I don’t know if he’s Irish or not. It’s not Mick in that sense. Mr.Micawber was a character in David Copperfield.”

“This guy worked for Copperfield? The magician?” Tony was silent as he contemplated his response.

“The novel by Charles Dickens,” he said finally. “In David Copperfield there’s a popular character who always dressed up like he was well off, even when he wasn’t.” If Manny was even slightly embarrassed by the gap in his literary background, he concealed it admirably. “So could be our vic here was hard up. Closet gambler maybe with big debts? Might be a motive there.”

“I have no idea at all about his finances,” Tony replied. “All I know is what I’ve told you. Except that the women all thought he was wonderful.”

“Aw, women always like short guys, ’specially when they’re old.Means they’re sure to be harmless.”

“No,that’s not it. It’s because he was so polite. A total gentleman in every way. My wi … my ex always used to say he should give lessons.”

“Awright, so we got mister super manners with the weird clothes goes for a walk on the beach and gets himself blown away by… ” Manny went down on one knee just as Tony had on the other side of the chair.

“He gets himself blown away by somebody wearing —uh, wearing...” He bent over to the second set of footprints that led to the chair, leaning so close to them that his nose almost touched.

“Wearing a pair of ladies’ New Balance, 71/2 double D, I’d say.” Manny stood and grinned at the expression on Tony’s face.

“I used to work in a shoe store. You get good at the sizes in a hurry.” He put his hands on his hips.

“So. My take is the vic, Mr. Micawber,is out for his constitutional. Very early morning. Beach is deserted. He sits in the chair here and Ms. New Balance, 71/2 double D, walks up — you can see where she stands and shifts a bit — puts one through the vest and then walks away. Just one, two, three, like that. You agree?” Tony nodded, paused, and then nodded again.

“Except for one thing,” he said. “I say the shooter was a guy.” Manny frowned. “Yea? What makes you say that?”

What makes Tony Sanchez say that?
